McGovern vs. Nixon Redux?

This new ad from Team Obama argues that George W. Bush is John McCain’s real running mate:

I can’t help being reminded of the McGovern campaign’s confidence in 1972 that any Democrat would beat Richard Nixon. While “Bush fatigue” is real, the Democrats are projecting their own hatred of Bush, imagining that the mere association of Bush and McCain will ensure Obama’s victory in November.
