Katrina Vanden Heuvel: Not Even On The Same Planet
by

Anyone who even just casually follows politics has a least favorite pundit. For many on the left side of the aisle, it seems to be a guy like Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh. For those on the Right, Chris Matthews or Bill Maher might take top prize in an unpopularity contest.

My white whale is Katrina Vanden Heuvel, editor and publisher of the Nation. Our electronic paths don’t cross often, but when they do, I end up needing whatever it is the Dos Equis man “usually” drinks to numb the pain.

On Sunday’s edition of This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Ms. Vanden Heuvel wowed the crowd with what may end up being the silliest, most incoherent, tone-deaf response to any political scandal in recorded human history. Seriously, you need to watch this!

These are talking points of talking points of talking points Joe Biden might have written on a napkin after a whole mess of cocktails in the 1-percenter car of the Amtrak train he loves to ride so very much.

Apparently the jaw-dropping litany of scandals revealed this month are the all the fault of the GOP. Good to know! Also good to know: Rumor has it that the American people are simultaneously ignoring the scandals, blaming Republicans for the scandals, and demanding amnesty for 20 million “undocumented patriots” (or whatever we’re calling them now). Oh, and I also learned that the real crime in all that has happened is that the Obama administration hasn’t gotten it’s Second-Term Groove back yet.

Vanden Heuvel attacks Republicans for “politicizing” a political scandal in which one political party used political maneuvering and intimidation to abuse the political powers the people lent them, all so they could win a political election to keep those political powers for another four-year term. Keep in mind this is all in reference to the most politically-motivated and controlled administration in a generation.

When anything even slightly resembling an opportunity to embarrass a Republican comes along, members of the media like Ms. Vanden Heuvel swarm like vultures in the sky to pick clean the dead carcass of whichever conservative happens to be in their way of advancing big-government liberalism, gay marriage, abortion, etc.

When real scandals hit their Golden Boy’s administration, we’re forced to suffer through furrowed brows and hang-wringing about the need for restraint in our reactions to the indelicate matter. We’re treated to tongue-lashings regarding the over-reach of Republicans (some of whom may well be misplaying the killer hand they’ve been dealt, but whose Democratic colleagues never receive the same public scolding).

Katrina Vanden Heuvel will likely get to raise her speaking honorarium costs this year and will be asked to give Princeton’s commencement address at graduation 2014.

It’s not a serious world we’re living in.
