You might at least have pointed out what the Standard piece reported: the shrieking "I'm a queen" was imputed to this woman by an x employee. Journalists would probably question such a report.
Having said all this, I wouldn't blame any of her constituents for voting against her on this basis: cell phones are vile. The rudeness on display in this video is appalling.

The troll Liberal Reader is incredibly unaware of what actually happens here in Washington. Assertions, no matter how uncontroversial, are routinely challenged. Very tiresome.
Rep. Jackson Lee has a long history of imperious behavior. It is not overstatement to say that in this respect she is legendary. Over the last decade multiple sources from both parties have confirmed to me what an awful person the congresswoman is and how difficult she is to work for. Whenever I would ask a Hill person whom they thought the worst person to work for on the Hill was, the answer would almost always be Jackson Lee. Go down your own research.

I live in her district...18th Tex....and I was actually the GOP nominee for the seat in 1974 against the then incumbent,the late Barbara Jordan....when this district was created as a result of the 1970 census,Ms Jordan chaired the committee in the Texas legislature that drew up the district boundary lines....it was drawn to include EVERY majority black precinct in the city...because Ms Jordan herself planned to run for that seat....well, in 1974,she was going to be unopposed until I,daring young fool that I was,decided that the voters ought to have a choice...even if it was merely me...so I plunked down $500 and ran....got a solid 19% of the vote for my trouble...and to this day I hold the record for a GOP nominee in the 18th....that seat will belong to Sheila for as long as she wants it..unless she is caught in bed with a dead whore...even then she would likely still win....death where is thy sting?

I'll never forget that phone call to the Chris Baker show, when he was still in Houston. An elderly woman called to complain about SJL attending/disrupting her church services, "a-sashayin' down the center aisle LATE, so as everybody gets a REAL good look at her. And everybody knows she's there." LOL That still cracks me up!

me: How do you think congress members make a living? They are completely dependent on government--no different from the 18th century upper class in England dependent on the lower classes for support, or third generation welfare families in 20th century America. For example, Caroline Kennedy EXPECTED to be appointed senator in NY when Clinton vacated.
FYI: Congress manufactures nothing. They don't sing, dance or shoot baskets. They tax and spend. The safest time in America is when they go on vacation. We can remove the chastity belts from the cats, dig up our wallets from the backyard, and sigh a big relief. We're safe until September.

me: Our eyes do not lie and this video affirms our view of Congress. Do you know what most Americans think of House and Senate Reps? They take bribes, steal, lie, cheat, manipulate, break laws, and make laws for us that do not apply to themselves--such as Obamacare--or create laws to enrich themselves, their friends, and relatives--such as the stimulus and Cap and Trade.
The offices are far greater than the people who occupy them because the offices belong to the people. Congress members are abusing the power of the people and the people are fighting back--magnificently!

Anyone who's read more than one or two of Liberal Reader's posts knows Liberal Reader's knowledge of any issue is paper thin and that he/she/it googles madly to back up dogmatic arguments with shopworn generic liberal pabulum that itself is so tendentious as to be inadmissable anywhere except perhaps in the distorted world of a Fun House.
Liberal Reader is that class of fool who believes altruistic theory doesn't work in the real world only because there hasn't yet been sufficient coercion (and who will never comprehend the irony), and for whom hope perpetually triumphs over experience - but then Liberal Reader's real-world experience of the human condition is NIL.
Hence Liberal Reader's predictable wide-eyed credulity on virtually any "current events" topic where Liberal Reader sees an opportunity to indulge his/her/its moral exhibitionism and preen for his/her/its putative audience. I'm sure the classic liberal mantra is never too far from Liberal Reader's Lips: It's ok to be a jerk to people as long as you care about humanity.
What bugs me about Jackson Lee's behavior is what might be termed the Jerry Springer Syndrome. It has become a cultural meme for black people - particularly those with little education in urban areas, but spreading to the 'burbs and even into the rural area where I currently live - to be rude, ostentatiously and unapologetically self-serving, provocative, loud, obnoxious and to project an in-your-face sense of entitlement.
I have worked in situations where this is de rigeur from a cultural standpoint. And white people never call black people on it because they're afraid of being tarred as "racists." And so the utter devolution of human interaction continues unchecked.
Rank-and-file blacks do themselves no favors by adopting this "talk to the hand," one-size-fits-all persona. Indeed, they subject each other to this regressive behavior as much or more than they subject evil white people to it. And of course white youth, ever eager to mimic "ghetto culture" as a totem of Downscale Chic, have adopted the persona as well so that we have an entire swath of society now that is petulant, combative, querulous, truculent, savage and mean-spirited.
And of course our education system, instead of nipping this behavior in the bud, fosters and institutionalizes it. Indeed, the teachers themselves are now thoroughly marinated in it.
This is a tragedy that bodes ill. This is not the story of one imperious congresswoman. Would that it were. It's the story of the congealing of incivilty and rudeness and selfishness into a cultural norm among a burgeoning section of society that is by degrees tolerated, indulged and encouraged by White Guilt.
I was in a McDonald's in the early 1990s on Sixth Avenue in NYC, and the surly grill guy was licking his fingers ostentatiously in front of customers while he very, very slowly and resentfully worked the grill, daring the cowed white-guilt riddled customers to challenge him. Of course no one did. I mentioned it to my friend as we left. His response? "It's not his fault. We've created the world he lives in. It's our fault."
And so it the circle will never be broken until the mere threat of frivolous accusations of "racism" is no longer kryptonite for customers, constituents, employees and managers, and we demand the return of civility in public discourse that is colorblind.
And that's why I wish the woman that Sheila Jackson Lee blew off so rudely had responded in words that the estimable Ms. Lee would instantly comprehend: "Diss me one more time and I'll bust a cap in yo' ass."
Kidding!

I do not want America to become a gulag. And while useful idiots like Liberal Reader may have no problem being used as sandbag filler by which the incipient Obama dictatorship entrenches itself, that's fine for them.
But the problem is, by serving such a function Liberal Reader and his/her/its cohorts and fellow travelers are helping to construct the gulag.

You know, C4P, I actually thought of Thomas Sowell as I was writing that - I couldn't agree more.
It's that whole "noblesse oblige" - dare I say "colonial" - mindset that persists today - primarily among white liberals. We are all supposed to be forever shamed by some collective guilt that I wasn't even around for into indulging the most asinine behavior (and affirmative action and the welfare state have provided fertile soil from which such ugly and tenacious weeds have grown).
It's like a corrosive acid has been thrown onto our collectivve American culture and nobody wants to admit its eating away our character.
And it ain't helping race relations one iota.

Calling Sheila a welfare queen is a disgusting insult to real welfare queens. I have far more respect for a real welfare queen than I do for Lee.

This woman is destestable and yet she is re-elected every time. She has a district made up of the people who could care less of her stand on issues but rather the color of her skin alone. She has repeatedly abused her position and went on trips and rented limos, etc. against ethics rules and so what.. she is still there. She is the worst of the worst and she is in my home state of Texas which I am ashamed of for electing such a worthless opportunist. She is a PERFECT reason for term limits on ANY elected position.

I just watched this again. You know, it appears as though Ms. Lee was totally unaware that her actions were extremely rude. She didn't do this intentionally. She has simply never been taught anything about being respectful and/or courteous. Her behavior is a manifestation of her ignorance. And that same ignorance appears to be very widespread in our society as a whole and particularly in minority communities.
