“And by giving Sotomayor at least the patina of bipartisan support in the Judiciary Committee, Graham ..."
A wise patina?
Oldefarte| 7.24.09 @ 12:00PM
I'm aware that he's not up for re-election soon; but when he does, I just hope that every conservative, especially in SC, will remember this!!!!!
Rod Stanton| 7.24.09 @ 12:28PM
Lindsay is a distant second to the man who has attacked the Bill of rights for over 20 years; and is still attacking. His most well know law is a direct attack on the First Ammendment. He was the only Republican in the Keating Fiove. He has been stabbing Sarah Palin in the back for 8 months.
If you do not know who the lefty/progressive/liberal is you have not paidany attention to American politics the last 25 years!
He is worse than Lindsay because he has a very long record of being a collectivist! Graham is a "Johnny Come Lately" comparred tro this progressive!
Eric Damon| 7.24.09 @ 12:48PM
People like Grahamnesty are the very reason the GOP continues to lose election after election! He's looking for consensus? What that means in the real world of DC politics is that he is willing to sell out any principles he may claim to have in order to gain political power for himself. He is the worst GOP senator, mainly because he has no other principles than the gathering of personal clout and the "respect" of his Senate cronies. With people like him in leadership positions, the GOP is headed right back to the Bob Michel days when the GOP could never imagine having a majority in either house of Congress! What a freaking putz!!!!!
JP| 7.24.09 @ 1:05PM
Besides Graham, Senator Lugar should be near the top. He couldn't wait to be the first GOP Senator to run the mic and say that she had his vote. Senator Lugar is a timeserver who grows more and more liberal with every passing year. Lugar is everything that is wrong with the Senate. Along with Snarlin' Arlene and Senator Byrd, it appears only death will get between this man and his political career. Maybe the Hoosier GOP will tire of him and find someone else.
Liberal Reader| 7.24.09 @ 1:40PM
What is it about Lindsay Graham you people hate so much?
Is it his career in the Senate or his military service you resent?
Al Adab| 7.24.09 @ 1:53PM
You are all on point but did you forget Olympia Snow? Or maybe it's just that she's so far gone we think of her as a Dem.
Those who value consensus over principle deserve our scorn.
Raoul Ortega| 7.24.09 @ 2:07PM
With Snarlin' Arlen gone, the position as "worst GOP Senator" is still open, but this sort of thing does put Graham at the top of the list.
Is it his career in the Senate or his military service you resent?
The subject is his "career in the Senate", and you are the only person here who can't seem to figure that out. Then again, the troll playbook says to change the subject when you know you are losing.
Nolan Ryan| 7.24.09 @ 2:13PM
Voinovich deserves an honorable mention. Not only did he vote to kill the reciprocal concealed carry legislation, he was solely responsible for screwing John Bolton when the Repubs had a working majority in the Senate. He's a putz on the same level as Grahamnesty. Throw in the female dunces from Maine and top it off with Lugar and a side of McCain and you've got a wax museum of stupidity and a reason for the GOP futility.
Al Adab| 7.24.09 @ 2:21PM
Good fastball there Nolan Ryan.
Red Phillips| 7.24.09 @ 2:33PM
At least Snowe and Collins are honest RINOs. Grahamnesty pretends to be a conservative, which makes him more dangerous.
Angel| 7.24.09 @ 3:43PM
Damn, I agree with Red. Will wonders never cease.
Richard Baker| 7.24.09 @ 11:31PM
The worst and dumbest are Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins from Maine. Hard to imagine that a State that could produce a Margaret Chase Smith could also produce these two dunces.
BigSkyBob| 7.25.09 @ 1:29AM
John McCain said, and lived, essentially, the exact same line about cooperation with the Democrats as opposed to confrontation [McCain-Feingold, etc.] The rules were stacked to assure the same John McCain the Republican nomination even though he had only about 30% support among the Republican electorate. Graham is only the "worst" Republican Senator if you consider McCain the "worst" Republican Presidential nominee. Otherwise, all that you can say is that Graham represents the Senate's "Trueist" Republican.
Sue| 7.25.09 @ 12:33PM
My vote is for Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. Graham is a pragmatist who knows the battle is lost, so he'll try to save his seat and maybe help win the war.
Snowe and Collins are truly RINOs and should be defeated with true conservatives. The problem is, up North, there aren't any.
Eric Damon| 7.26.09 @ 10:40AM
Sue,
I have to disagree with you on Snowe and Collins. They are simply typical northeast liberal Republicans, neither of whom has ever pretended to be in any way a conservative. They have always been moderate to liberal on every major issue, so they basically don't factor in.
Graham gets the nod because he seems to abandon the conservatives at the most inopportune moments, and on the most important issues. Whenever the GOP has a battle on its hands, you can just about count on Graham to defect to the other side. He was all for McCain-Feingold and was a very vocal proponent for the McCain-Kennedy amnesty scam. The idea that he is going to be on board with the GOP in winning any conservative ideological battles is plain crazy! When has he ever done that, and why would he start now?
Jeff Perren| 8.18.09 @ 3:32PM
"Lindsey Graham. Bar none. "
In the running, for sure. But I don't have a micrometer that measures that finely, given all the keen competition for Most Destructive Pragmatist.
