ACORN is EVERYWHERE!

It's all ACORN -- all the time.

Much has been happening in the wacky world of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now in recent days.

Longtime ACORN ally Rep. John Conyers (D-Michigan) backed out of the congressional probe of the group he promised. The Washington Examiner's Kevin Mooney has the story and quotes me in it. Mooney is slated to be on the "Glenn Beck Program" to talk about ACORN at 5 p.m. Eastern today.

I have a longer piece on the same topic right here at the American Spectator. GOP lawyer Heather Heidelbaugh testified in Congress about ACORN's many misdeeds and Conyers said at the time the allegations were "a pretty serious matter."

Heidelbaugh testified the nonprofit group violated a host of tax, campaign finance, and other laws. She said the presidential campaign of Barack Obama sent ACORN its "maxed out donor list" and asked two of the avowedly nonpartisan group's employees "to reach out to the maxed out donors and solicit donations from them for Get Out the Vote efforts to be run by ACORN."

Heidelbaugh said the New York Times had the donor list story but editors there spiked it the month before the election, a claim she repeated on "The O'Reilly Factor" two weeks later. The newspaper told the Philadelphia-based Bulletin that "political considerations played no role in our decisions about how to cover this story or any other story about President Obama."

Heidelbaugh's star witness is former ACORN employee Anita MonCrief. MonCrief maintains a blog where she tells her story and reflects on all the latest goings-on with ACORN.

Mooney discovered that ACORN has received at least $53.6 million in federal funds since 1994. The sum is probably much higher but this sort of information is very difficult to track. Moreover, the ACORN network consists of more than 100 affiliates and those affiliates routinely transfer money to each other. He also reported that ACORN and other liberal advocacy groups could get as much as $8.5 billion from the February stimulus bill and fiscal 2010 budget.

It's old news by now that Nevada charged ACORN and two former senior ACORN officials with election fraud Monday, but just today it was learned that Pennsylvania authorities have charged seven ACORN workers with election fraud.

Rep. Michele Bachmann's (R-Minnesota) bid to keep an anti-ACORN funding provision in a mortgage reform bill went down in flames but not without embarrassing House Financial Services Committee chairman Barney Frank (D-Massachusetts) first.

CNSNews reported some people are worried about the fact that ACORN has signed up to be a partner in the 2010 U.S. Census.

From the you-win-some-you-lose-some-file, a judge has recommended that the Buckeye Institute of Ohio's state racketeering lawsuit against ACORN be dismissed.

In the Manhattan Institute's City Journal, Steven Malanga has an article called "Obsessive Housing Disorder." He explains ACORN's role in lowering lending standards, which housing activists denounced as racist and unfair. This lowering of the standards contributed to the subprime mortgage meltdown.

Vadum's little ACORN fetish is funny to observe, but a little pathetic.

Next he'll be screeding that ACORN is Obama's version of the SA (brownshirts).

And in case Vadum hasn't noticed, Michelle Bachmann has to be the stupidest, least sane public official in DC -- and that's saying something. Where are the concentration camps? Bachmann belongs in a rest home for the chronically derranged, not in Congress. Hell, I don't know. Maybe it's the same thing either way.

Bachmann is dumber than Maxine Waters (D-Calif.)? C'mon now, Tom.

orgmanthu| 5.7.09 @ 6:09PM

NO WAY is ACORN Obama's version of the SA (brownshirts).

They're going with a powder blue.

Tom Paine| 5.7.09 @ 6:26PM

Bill --

I happen not to be terribly impressed by Waters. In fact, there are a number of Democrats in Congress who are in my view a little dim.

Nothing in my experience of politics has prepared me to react to Ms Bachmann. She is clearly and without doubt the stupidest person I've ever seen holding office -- anywhere.

Her weekly proclamations are either crazy or entirely foolish, depending on the week.

I'd still like to know the location of the concentration camps Obama is setting up for young people. But I won't hold my breath.

ACORN is EVERYWHERE....

Why are conservatives such fearful, unmanly, whining little bitches?

Old Texican| 5.7.09 @ 6:51PM

Hi Orgmanthu
Powder blue sounds nice, but perhaps one shade toward turquoise might be nice. I t will blend so much better with crimson. (smile)

During the 1930s the CCC invented by FDR putting young men to work doing "infrastructure projects" is very evident here in Texas still today.
Primarily low water dams, bridges and the like are scattered all over.
In his grand scheme of things, I can see Obama re-starting something on those lines, but then the supervisors will have the job of smelling the lowest scum within those ranks. That scum will be asked to don the powder blue, grow an identity, and then venture out into the streets to intimidate defenseless working men and women.

OH! Son of a gun...those defensless working men and women won't be so defenseless. Hmmm, wonder how that's going to work out?

Bill Bailey| 5.7.09 @ 6:52PM

Tom, Tom, Tom:
I beg to differ regarding Maxine Waters. I've met her. She is clearly and without doubt the stupidest person I've ever seen holding office -- anywhere (to flatter you by plagiarizing you). Dumb as a bag of rocks and extremely emotionally volatile, constantly losing her temper in public. Sheila Jackson Lee is not as stupid but is an incredibly nasty person.

Who said Obama is setting up concentration camps? If someone did, maybe it was you using another name in order to make the commenters here look stupid.

Earlier this year Acorn organized a number of its "spontaneous" demonstrations. My personal favorite was the group bussed in to the private homes of AIG managers in 'Outrage" over the bonuses the One had protective language inserted into the bill by Senator Dodd. That is if you believe Senator Dodd.
The company had to provide extra security for its offices as the rent a mob took to smashing windows.
Thomas, since you brought up brown shirts let me ask you how different were their actions? If not to intimidate harass and frighten what exactly was the purpose… The brown shirts were somewhat reserved in their early days as well.
Acorn stands ready to take to the streets as the need required, either to subvert the voting process, or intimidate bankers in to making loans or to lend a little muscle and street presence as the One needs or requires.
One point I think you may have wrong in your interpretation you are not hearing whining or wimps quaking in fear. . you are hearing concerned citizens asking that their government look into obviously questionable practices. If that fails then you may hear something entirely different. I can assure you it will not be whining. If in the end the government turns a blind eye and the apparent complicity continues people have all manner of ways of responding to intimidation people will seek redress one way or another.
DON”T TEAD ON ME!

oops sorry for the double post I was doing a final edit and evidently sent the unedited version as well.

Who in the hell is this idiot, know nothing marxist Tom Paine??

Paine... I would be very happy to buy you airline tickets to Honduras where business men friends of mine can take you on a flight to the real Cuba, not Michael Moore's marxist propaganda version. If that doesn't open your blinded eyes and blocked mind, my Honduran friends can take you on a real tour of Nicaragua and you can see for yourself what that SOB street thug Ortega has done to that beautiful land and its beautiful people.

YOU KNOW NOTHING MR. PAINE... NOTHING !!!

Basil Plumley| 5.7.09 @ 9:20PM

You stay classy, Tommy Pain. This was almost as embarrassing as your nonsensical tribute to Jack Kemp.
Do you also have a problem with a woman with a little (lot) of moxie? Sounds like you are insecure around these type of women. That's pretty embarrassing, Jeremiah/Tommy Pain.

Tom Paine| 5.7.09 @ 11:22PM

DIPSHITS are EVERYWHERE!!!

Everywhere you turn, dipshits are serving up bogus, insane, incredible, demented, completely retarded scenarios and conspiracy theories that distract people from thinking about anything important.

Run for the hills!

Jim| 5.7.09 @ 11:28PM

Whiner Tom,
You must be talking about obama's administration.
"Everywhere you turn, dipshits are serving up bogus, insane, incredible, demented, completely retarded scenarios and conspiracy theories that distract people from thinking about anything important. "

Basil Plumley| 5.8.09 @ 1:39AM

Yep, never let a good crisis go to waste.

Dipshiites of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your Tommy Pain. Save the Pain.
Jeremiah, you should have used the French form of Painé. It would be apt for your retreat to the hills. Perhaps, the more feminine form would be apt; Paineé.

Big J| 5.8.09 @ 8:30AM

I will never understand why liberals like "Tom Paine" (an insult to Thomas Paine if you ask me) spew a bunch of falsehoods and then immediately turn to spewing hatred and vile attacks. Especially towards people who actually love this country and the freedom it furnishes us.

IF YOU HATE THIS COUNTRY SO MUCH, WHY DON'T YOU LEAVE?!

There are plenty of fascist, socialist, communist countries around the world where your viewpoints are accepted (although you would not have the freedom to articulate your dissent). I am sure you will get along just fine.

Go sell crazy somewhere else; we're not buying.

GregB| 5.8.09 @ 6:56PM

Acorn is actually creating change, and thats not a bad thing. I had never heard of them before, but now they're in the lime light. should they be stopped? No I just think they need to have thier leadership changed, and more exposure as to the ring leaders. Who are they and where do they live...then let the politics of change take it from there. We the people will decide, not acorn, or the republicans, or the democrats. Those who are blinded by ideology and not guided by truth and reason will not pervail. I don't get excited about Acorn, they can have thier teeth pulled very quickly, some have forgotten that is possible. Anyone want to fly to the moon? The Berlin wall fell, so did the Soviet Union. Americans are a good people, we have a faults its part of the human condition, but look at the young people around you. I do and Acorn will not be able to control them. They can't control thier own. Just keep exposing them, we the american people will take care of them. They have already lost the battle little they do goes unoticed. Those who run Acorn are self absorbed and blind. If you could focus on the leadership a bit more it would be appreciated,
"Commanders must have intgrity:without integrity they have no power. If they have no power, they cannot bring out the best in thier armies" You see without integrity they have no power because they do not back up thier words with honorable deeds, and therfore cannot inspire confidence and trust. If they are not trust worthy thier orders will not be carried out and thier forces will not be unified (as you see in the newspapers) And if they are not unified they will not be successful. Two of our young marines on the battle field have more trust between each other than you will find in the entire leadership of Acorn. Keep your lights on bright and let freedom of speech, and right to bear arms prevail. Thank you for your work.

Yep... I even offered to buy Mr. Paine airline tickets to his Marxist Uptopian Paradise, CUBA. So far , no answer. I think Mr. Paine is a FRAUD!!!

Tina Trent| 5.11.09 @ 8:30AM

Hi Tom Paine, how about a real name? I usually have to log onto Salon to find such hateful little liber-sexist slurs. And the men who only feel safe lobbing them from behind some assumed name. Makes me feel like I'm back -- in ACORN, amusingly.
