So now the UN Secretary-General wants to add to the U.S. taxpayer’s burden.
WASHINGTON — Within 72 hours of the Tea Party’s “shellacking” of Obama and Pelosi, Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General, called for global taxation of the American public — an idea endorsed by a high-level official of the Obama administration. Ban must not have been watching television on Election Night, because he missed the voters’ rejection of big government, higher taxes, and out of control spending. Or perhaps he did see the results and thought it best to get his $100 billion of “climate financing” fees on the agenda of the lame duck Congress.
The demand comes from the Secretary-General’s High-level Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing, which was organized following last year’s UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. Among the panelists recommending global taxes are George Soros, the financier of socialist change, and Larry Summers, President Obama’s economic advisor.
The group’s report begins with the claim that “Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time.” Not true. There is doubt among scientists as to whether or not the earth’s temperature is warming. There is even more skepticism attached to the theory that human activity could cause such a phenomenon. It matters not. The UN deems it an emergency to raise $100 billion by 2020 — and annually thereafter — for a problem that may not exist.
And where to get the wampum to fix the weather? Taxes. Global taxes. UN-imposed levies on the eroding wealth of American citizens.
The Advisory Group’s report is filled with options for governments to get the required $100 billion. “Governments may prefer to increase budget contributions,” its authors helpfully suggest, until such time as new domestic or international taxes can be imposed and collected. It goes on to recommend a “carbon export optimization tax,” and levies on international aviation and shipping including taxes on jet fuel and passenger tickets for international flights.
Other possibilities include royalties from fossil fuel extraction, and taxes on the use of electricity. Finally, there is the need, according to the UN, for a “global financial transaction tax,” that would require “international coordination” and “international implementation.” This is UN-speak for a global tax collecting agency.
A denunciation of international taxes on American citizens has yet to appear on the President’s teleprompter, but it needs to. A congressional condemnation is warranted as well. The fact that Summers, a presidential advisor and former Treasury Secretary, has signed off on the idea that the United Nations is entitled to seize, rather than request, American wealth is monumental.
Giving the United Nations the power to tax would indicate a wholesale change in our relationship with the UN. It would also require that the Constitution be moved from the safety and security of the National Archives to the nearest trash dump.
Though it’s denied it, the United Nations has long wanted to impose taxes on citizens world-wide. In recent decades, it has used euphemisms like “alternative sources of financing” as code for advocacy of UN-imposed taxes. More recently, however, it has shed all pretense and is aggressively promoting the idea that the United Nations has the right to impose taxes on people, businesses, industries and politically incorrect behaviors.
While other Obama officials have not explicitly embraced global taxation as Summers has, close attention will need to be paid to the White House after his departure. Both Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Paul Volcker, the chairman of Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board, have sympathies for international regulation of banks and the economy. Even Obama, while he was in the Senate, introduced the Global Poverty Act which would allow the United Nations to lay claim to a fixed percentage of America’s gross domestic product each year.
A few months back, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a call to action on global taxes. The WHO demanded a tax on consumer products — alcohol, tobacco and firearms — to name a few. Their reason: to raise revenue for health related research and “discourage consumption.” The proper way to view such revenue enhancements, the WHO report stated, is to look at them as “humanitarian contributions” for an “altruistic purpose.”
In recent months, French, German and British leaders have each endorsed one or more ideas for international taxation, including a global financial transaction tax or “Tobin Tax” as it is more commonly known. The G-8 and the International Monetary Fund, not wanting to be left out of the global tax game, are writing proposals of their own. With Summers, we can now add to that list a high ranking Obama administration official.
International taxation is “no longer merely an option,” says French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner. He argues it’s only a matter of time before the UN implements a tax system.
Given our inability to say “no” to the United Nations, Kouchner may be right. Time will tell.

Our friendlier nations use the US for military protection, the hostile nations use the US for aid$, and now the UN wants to impose "global" taxes that, naturally will put the US in the highest bracket. WWIII

Absolutely! They have NOTHING we want. They are utterly useless to Americans and we should pull out and cut off all contributions to that sinister organization.

Who is this tax aimed at? The Chinese. Oh no, we can't pay that tax, we're just a poor developing nation.?" The oil rich nations? Not really, because they'll just immediately pass the tax onto the price per barrel of oil and the end user will end up paying the tax.
The tax is aimed at the people of the United States. I have been overseas enough to know the rational behind this. "The United States is big and rich and everyone has a money tree in their back yard.
They'll be those nations that could pay the tax but they'll plead poverty and the UN will give them an exemption.
Then there will be the wholesale exemption to American bashing member states out of solidarity to the great Satan.
So the final result will be, the United States and probably the European Union. Of course along the way everyone is going to add their little percentage to make theirs.
And who will be the great arbiter of this world tax. The United Nations, you've got t be friggin kidding me.
That den of iniquity, that colossus of the clowns, That sanctuary of murdering, raping, corrupt regimes wants to be the clearing house of a world tax.
What is somewhat surprising to all this, we in the United States already know these facts but the Communists in our government keep telling us, "We have a moral obligation to the worlds poor."
Meanwhile corrupt nations loot their countries treasuries and it is our obligation to feed and clothe their citizens, and be called the Great Satan in the same breath.
I think its damn time for that for the United Nations to get the sam hell out of this Country. It has worn it's welcome out with all the hysterical stupidity that emanates from it.
Fredrick Ward| 11.12.10 @ 10:47PM
"We have a moral obligation to the worlds poor."
I could say that we do not in a lot of different ways, and I would get derided by tons of bleeding hearts. Therefore, I say that all those who think we should pay this tax, and give the UN this power, sign over all their rights, belongings, and the rights and belongings of their children's children's children to the United Nations. That way they will fee all fluffy inside, and we will be able to continue living our lives as normal.
Seriously, we need to kick this idiotic organization off of the United States soil, and immediately separate ourselves, as a nation, from them.

"Ronald's" post HAS to be a joke or an attempt at satire. No American with a brain and a pulse could write that with a straight face.
We really need to get out of the U.N., kick their sorry a$$es out of our Country, and, most importantly; ENACT THE BRICKER AMENDMENT! Look it up.
I have been pushing it so long that anybody who knows me is sick of it, but they all agree. ENACT THE BRICKER AMENDMENT!
This amendment was first proposed by Senator Bricker of Ohio (I think..I'm old, so be patient!) in the mid 50's. Not one administration has had the sense to pursue it. All it does is state that the U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and all other laws are subordinate to it. It is aimed at closing the loophole language in the Constitution that provides exceptions to "...certain international treaties and agreements." that may take precedence. All this needs is some Anti-American traitorous president (like "YOU-KNOW-Who!") to start allowing the U.N. to levy taxes directly on U.S. citizens, AND EXPOSE US TO OTHER LAWS AND RULES THAT THE MORONS IN THE U.N. WANT TO USE TO DESTROY US. (It has nothing to do with any religious laws.)
I don't trust Obama or the U.N. as far as I could throw the U.N. Building. Please look it up.

"Climate change is a proven fact and people need to wake up and realize it."
You're right, the climate DOES change, constantly, and it's a good thing too, as that's WHY evolution occurs, especially social evolution amongst mankind.
You do realize that the greatest advancements in human social evolution occurred during periods of "global warming," right? Well, why shouldn't we embrace this period of global warming, as it will, undoubtedly, lead to yet another period of social advance world wide.
Don't be afraid of climate change, of "global warming." Accept it for what it is, a gift to Humanity.

I agree climate does change over time, in my 67 years I have seen many changes and it has been for the good not the bad, I won't mention the 1,000 items that disprove man made warming because it would be a waste of time on you as you are to deep into wanting to be a part of something you grabbed onto the big one, global warming save the world , every one of your ilk should be in jail for fraud and scaring small school children to death. Ya know, I am getting pretty darn tired of hearing about "global warming". It has been thoroughly discredited by countless conservative political experts, and continued talk about it is just wasting our precious time, which should go for much more important things like restoring our national honor and fidelity to the proper religion.
I say, we should simply outlaw all advocacy of "global warming", just as we have outlawed advocacy of Communism.

What needs to be done is to educate the masses as to what is coming down the pike. People need to understand what is happening in layman's terms. This is the only way to thwart the continuing attempts by the elites to create two classes, the rich and the poor. The middle class, if the elites have their way, is on its way out unless the American people can continue the work the Tea Party started. We must remain resolute and continue educating everyone until the people clearly see who the enemy is and will remove him from office in 2012 and replace him with someone who believes in truth, justice and the "exceptional" American way.

Concerned-I: Sure I'm interested in solutions to "real" problems, but please tell me (or should I say enlighten me?) what exactly is "your solution" for this United Nations created, wealth redistribution, data manipulated problem?
Does your solution have anything to do with Carbon Trading, or increasing American taxes to be given to Third World Nations to do with as they will (I'm not exactly sure how that would help though?), or by eliminating all automobiles, or by moving most everybody into large Cities so we can all get around by mass transit or bicycles, or by not eating meat, or by washing my clothes by hand (I've done that already in Iraq, and I don't want to do it again-it sucks!!), or by shrinking the size of the Human population on the Earth by 50-80% (don't ask me how they'll do this, just trust me, you can't handle the truth)? So Concerned-I, what are your solutions, I really can't wait to hear them!!
I'll be back later on to see what you've come up with, but I've got to run into Town in my Lincoln Town Car (19-MPG) to do a little shopping first. I'm out of fabric softener again, and I've got a couple of loads of wash to get done today, before "they" come to take my washer away. I'll be back in a little bit!! Sorry to disappoint you, but global warming is a PREDICTION!!!!!
You can no sooner "prove" to the intellectually honest people on this board (i.e. those who believe scientific theories should develop through the scientific method--as in welcome tests of that theory recognizing that every test the theory passes makes it stronger--versus "the science is settled" proclamations) global warming is a fact than you can prove that the Giants will win the Superbowl in February.
Just because the enviro-left has decided it is so, and completely drowned out others that disagree, doesn't make the probabliity of the PREDICTION any greater.
Yeah, it's real--a real theory. Not a fact. The only 'fact' is that the scientific side of the discussion has been hi-jacked by politicians.

Dear Concerned IDIOT of Earth-
Yes there is climate change, it is called the weather it has been going on as long as this world has been in exsistence.
Maybe you did not get the latest memo from the U.N. but they no longer consider it GLOBAL WARMING it is now CLIMATE CHANGE.
The idiots at East Anglia really screwed things up by falsifing data so they changed the name. Longer than you have been on this earth, longer than humans have been driving SUV's and longer than cows have been belching, the climate has had the same upheavels that we are going through right now.
In fact this one is quite mild compared to some that have been recorded, look it up, in something other than a U.N. report.
By the way who appointed the U.N. as gaurdian of the world, look up its charter and founding. That group has morpehed from its actual job into the mother of all nanny groups that think that they are the most enlightened group of individuals on the planet.
Try imposing what they want to impose on the US, on one of thier pitiful, sad and imcompetent counties.
Concerned of Earth| 11.12.10 @ 1:18PM
Hi. Good to see a measured and civilised response. I guess that shows that the progress we are making...
If you believe that propaganda about data falsification then you really weren't paying attention.

Freeman Dyson says that carbon dioxide is plant food. Hal Lewis says that the idea of anthropogenic global warming is the most successful psuedo-scientific hoax in history. Jean Alliet, the French physiscist that originated the question of man made global warming back in the 1970s says that the entire concept of anthropogenic global warming has been deliberately misstated for social, political and economic gain.

Did you know that 5 million years ago the Colorado basin uplifted two miles, the climate changed, and the Grand Canyon formed, 'suddenly' cutting through layers of rock laid down between 250 and 1000 million years ago? What caused the Colorado Plateau to uplift? Cave men moving their SUVs to California!

I do wonder, who was burning all the "fossil fuel" that brought the planet out of the last ice age? I have yet to hear one of these watermelons answer that question.
Fredrick Ward| 11.12.10 @ 11:13PM
There are a number of scientists who believe that this so-called warming/cooling of the Earth is the natural cycle of the planet. Rather, it would happen if we were here or not because it has already happened multiple times in the past.
Now there is proof of this, and no one is able to deny it without looking like a complete fool. Therefore, the question of where the proverbial SUV came from during those several other Ice Age periods is certainly a legitimate question. However, this will never be given credence by the liberal left because it defeats their fluffy arguments, and then what reason will they have to rape this country of its rights, freedoms, and hope?
MikeD| 11.13.10 @ 12:15AM
I am continually amazed by the abject stupidity of liberals and their fellow travelers who still believe in the fairy tale of Anthropogenic Global Warming. It does not exist; and anybody who thinks that humanity is powerful enough to make it happen is a moron. Mt Pinatubo in the early 90's ejected more carbon gases (CO, and CO2), particulates, sulphur and related gases like sulphur dioxide in 12 days than mankind has during our total time on Earth.
Another sign that these two dimwits are down there with the slime molds is their childish belief in the media and all the lies they jam down our throats daily. Climate Change is just that: a changing climate. It is caused by the cycles in the sun and precession of the poles, just to name two causes. It is a natural cycle, not a trend or a reasonable prediction.
I guess you two cretins haven't heard that Gore's and Obama's biggest scam, the Chicago Carbon Exchange, went belly up a month ago and it is out of business, as will it's European ba$tard stepchild in 2012 when the rediculous Kyoto Accords expire.
Finally, how did Algore make a HALF BILLION DOLLARS ($500,000,000) on the whole Global Warming scam? And, why did he buy a BEACH FRONT HOME if the ocean levels are going to rise 200 feet? You idiots will believe anything your masters bray at you! Do your part for your self proclaimed global warming: stop breathing!
FTM| 11.13.10 @ 4:13PM
I'm glad that you brought up Mt. Pinatubo. Like you said this volcano put more sulpher dioxide into the stratosphere in two months than the human race has in all of recorded history.
Do you remember the big acid rain scare? I do. The do-gooders were out rolling huge limestone roll-aids into lakes and streams to neutralize acid rain admidst great fanfare and whining. If what these idiots were pontificating about acid rain were true Mt. Pinatubo would have wiped out carbon based life on this planet a couple of dozen times over. Everything would have been disolved in a near perpetual sulpheric acid rain. I feel fine, how about you?
Remember the radon gas hysteria? Then it turns out that the most heavily contaminated house ever documented exposed the occupants to less radiation than an equal amount of exposure to direct sunlight.
Remember char-broiled hamburgers?
Now comes this "Global Warming aka Climate Change aka Cliamte Warning" scam and the advocates of this fraud just can't seem to understand why anyone with a room temperature IQ is ignoring them.
njoriole| 11.13.10 @ 10:43AM
AGW and the global taxes to combat it is all based on climate models. That is, computer geeks plug in some numbers (all based on speculation) and the program spits out some dubious predicitions. The surest refutation of this "science" is the fact that the models can't predict the past. That is, given KNOWN values regarding climate from the recent past, inputted into the climate models, the models don't predict what we know happened subsequently. Why would we possibly consider spending trillions of dollars (and lowering our lifestyles to 1930's levels, or worse) based on such flawed and inexact methodology? As Glen Reynolds always says "I'll believe it's a crisis when those who claim it's a crisis start acting like it's a crisis." Not likely, when the UN, ALGore, et al. would have to start living the life they have planned for the rest of us.
FTM| 11.13.10 @ 4:16PM
Take a read at the "Harry_Read_Me.txt file that Ian Harris kept. Harris was the poor unfortunate soul that had to make the data fit Phil Jones expectations. His admission of "Oh, f**k it, I just made it up.) is pretty much all the proof that is needed that the concept is a fraud.

would you please list the scientist that say it is a proven fact and I can name ten to your one ,.or more. I have the list don't make me post it here it would take up the whole page and then some . so name them ?
jstwndring| 11.16.10 @ 1:24AM
Do you understand what's being discussed? The question is not whether or not the climate changes--it does. The question is whether or not mankind has anything to do with it. He does not. It has been proven. There are no significant levels of carbon dioxide in the earth's atomosphere--at least not alarming levels. And 99% of what's up there is produced naturally. In fact, I believe co2 only represents 3/100 of a percent of our atmospheric makeup. It's so small as to be insignificant as a legitimate concern.
Then there's greenhouse gasses. Ninety-five percent of that is water vapor. Should we get rid of that? That could be problematic to life here. Mankind's contribution to greenhouse gasses is only two and one half tenths of a percent. Again, so small as to be insignificant.
Lastly, there is the Inconvenient Truth of the earth being on a cool-down cycle since 1995--although, I don't know what happened this past year regarding global temperature as I've gotten a bit board with the whole thing.
So, where is your proof? I'm going to need a bit more to go on other than that you agree with Concerned of Earth's baseless assertions.
Penny| 11.12.10 @ 1:08PM
The only answer for this defunct behemoth is defunding and relocation to N Korea or Iran. Saudi Arabia is also a strong contender. The UN is the source of most of the one-worldism we see. Anything that doesn't make sense or appear to be in the interests of your (usually Western) country can be accounted for easily when seen through the UN prism. Such as the latest demand for fleecing us to fund a $100B redistribution of our money in the guise of anti-global warming measures.
Who knew that in July 2010 the US voted against water as a 'human right' in favour of more abortion? Obama's obsession with abortion is freely indulged at the UN. Who knew the UN is pressuring Argentina to change its laws regarding marriage and abortion? A Catholic bishop there seems to have it right when he says that the UN is "new form of colonialism, a new imperialism." There is absolutely nothing about your life that the UN does not want to control. Just found this site and blog that shows the scope of UN interference worldwide - it's mind-boggling [www.c-fam.org]
Did you know that parental rights are under attack in the US via the proposed Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). See here [www.parentalrights.org]{98172987-5D33-4A41-AF04-84F6726222C3} Not to mention controlling your child's education, and creating a new 'human right' to impose on your child a "comprehensive sexuality education." These sites were found in just a few minutes, and there are tons more.
The UN is the current version of communism, judging by its activities and priorities - destroy the family, control the proletariat from birth to death, and so on to the point of nausea. Defund it, kick it out, kick it off the payroll. Help put a stop to its agenda to control and debase our lives.

Joe Oliva| 11.12.10 @ 3:49PM
Hello New World Order/One World Government.
If the Tea Party and the useless GOP elites do not end this madness, that is exactly what we are going to get.
The elites of the two corrupt major parties have been moving us along this path ever since Woodrow Wilson tried it 90 years ago. All the elites believe it is the answer to mankind's woes as all will be controlled by the wise and all knowing bureaucrats who run the NWO. The only difference I can discern between the two parties is the Dems want the NWO/OWG to be a socialist utopia while the GOP wants it to be free market oriented.
Either way, the two corrupt majors have both been in favor of this monstrosity. It is why they have been slowly but surely trashing the Constitution. That precious document is the only thing that stands in their way. Eliminate the idea that the people can rule themselves and it becomes obvious that the elites are best prepared to do so.
The CRC mentioned by Penny is only one piece of this agenda. The UN wants a ban on all small weapons but that pesky US Constitution keeps getting in the way. However, the elites have figured that one out.
The plan is to begin psychological evaluations of kids when they are in school, from K-12. They will allow the excuse of instability or some other nonsensensical evaluation to follow your children through all their school years. Then, when they become adults, guess what? They will not be allowed to own guns because they have shown a past history of mental instability. This is already being done to some of our returning war veterans because they dared seek some help fighting off PTSS.
Is there any hope for our kids and grandkids? I don't see it because the elites control education, the prime mover in Marx's plan to take over the world. If the youth vote that went to Obama is any indication, it appears that our kids have been severely brainwashed and are being duped into ushering in their own future of slavery rather than freedom.
Re-read Penny's last paragraph. It explains exactly what needs to be done!

You Americans had better rid yourselves of all UN connections, operatives, money-grabbing bleeding hearts or your country is going down the gurgler. Europe's Sarkozy, Merkel who think that they are God's gift to the G20 and now running America too have to be told where to get off because the longer Americans let them go the more arrogant they become. To FTM: America doesn't need Obama re-elected. His socialist tax and spend, bow to everyone including the UN money-grabbing circus is a hinderance to your previously innovative, prosperous nation. He's a monumental failure. You're being ruled by USSR style stand-over merchants. You have the worst government in American history, Larry Summers and George Soros tied up with the UN's attempt to world tax sovereign nations - what an insult to successful Americans and dreams of prosperity. They want to tax the world to feed the proliferating billions who want more, more more, more and more guns to prolong their bloody wars, does the reinvented socialist Soros think we are going to lie down and take UN world government?
IN THEIR DREAMS.
FTM| 11.14.10 @ 5:06AM
Hi Sue,
You are right in all aspects of your observation. There is a monumental problem though with getting rid of the people that you mention. Take a good long look at a Bell curve next time that you get a chance. +/- one standard deviation from the norm in terms of IQ encompases 66.66666 percent of the population. The average IQ being 100, right straight up the middle.
Now, if you have an IQ of 75 you're at the top end of having a mental defect. A person with a 100 IQ can talk to a person with a 75 IQ but it takes a lot of thought and work on the part of the person that has the 100 IQ.
Now, imagine that you have a 130 IQ. The average 100 IQ appears to you as being a mental defect. Most folks consider 125 to be a Genius" status. A 130 IQ puts you at +2 standard deviations from the norm or at less than 12% of the population at large. Translation: you're hideously outnumbered by people that aren't even close to as smart as you are.
When I was younger and not as experienced as I am not I used to think that in the land of the blind, the one -eyed man was king. Now that I'm older and wiser I have found that in the land of the blind that the one-eyed man better keep his mouth shut or the blind people will kill you. Not an act of malice mind you, they'll just want you to help them with this and that forever and forever until you die from exhaustion.
Bottom line, I've read the Bible through seven times, Jing James, New International Version, Revised Standard Edition and so on. I've read Eusebus and Josephus and Pliny and Plutarch and lot's of other writers. The mess that we're in at present does get over eventually. The problem is that it gets lots, lots worse first.

Can you moronic GW deniers name ONE, just ONE reputable scientific organization that refutes anthropogenic GW? No, you can't. On the other hand the IPCC findings are supported by the research and opinions of the NOAA, NASA, EPA, American Geophysical Union, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Meteorological Society, the world’s best universities, and the academies of science of the thirty largest industrialized economies; but, somehow you GW denying morons dismiss this extraordinary consensus as an insidious global conspiracy perpetrated by the media, a few elitist egg-heads, and Al Gore, and assented to by gullible RHINOs and the “sheeple”.
If GW is such a big and clearly obvious scam, especially to free thinking morons such as yourselves, then you morons should be able to give us GW believers at least one, JUST ONE, scientific organization that refutes it; but, again, you can't. So instead you morons fester with frustration, scream phlegm imbued obscenities at your monitor, quickly scan the internet looking for a comment from a maverick scientist like Lindzen, Spencer or Grey, or a right-wing think tank, then cut and paste the “truth” into the comment box, hit the send button, and yell "take that you socialist". Hilarious.
