Ted Kennedy: Man of the 1930s
Forever at demagogic war against Malefactors of Great Wealth.
“In Kennedy, the Last Roar of the New Deal Liberal,” proclaimed the New York Times’ “Week in Review” Sunday section in summarizing the late Senator’s career. There’s another way they might have put it: “Ted Kennedy: The Man Forever Stuck in the 1930s.”
With the Last Liberal Lion now laid to rest, it is worth pausing a moment to evaluate what the career of the third-longest-sitting Senator in history (behind only Robert Byrd and Strom Thurmond) was all about. Like Thurmond and Byrd, Kennedy came from a baronial state where the traditional centers of wealth and power are rarely challenged by newcomers. This kind of politics fit the New Deal perfectly. Its strongest support was in the urban centers of the East Coast and in the populist dynasties of the Old South — home of John Stennis and Earl and Huey Long. In these states the principle had long been established that “the masses” were exploited and victimized by Big Business and it was the business of politicians to intercede on their behalf or else they would be denied the basic sustenance of life.
Thus, the prevailing image of the New Deal was the Leaders and the Masses, the Shepherds and their Flocks, the People and the Politicians, united against the Malefactors of Great Wealth. Kennedy and the liberal wing of the Democratic Party have never entirely given up on this model. During the funeral there was endless mention of the poor, the downtrodden, the homeless, the dispossessed, the excluded, the gay — any of the myriad of constituencies into which the populace can be sliced and then assigned to its Democratic shepherd. (“I doubt if even the poor spend this much time talking about the poor at their own funerals,” said one person I was watching with.) There is logic to all this. Democrats embrace ACORN and its organized voter fraud, motor-voter laws, amnesty for illegal immigrants — maybe even inviting half of Mexico into the country — because all this promises the votes to keep them in power.
Thus, for Ted Kennedy, the Reagan Revolution was simply a rebirth of the Fifth Avenue dowagers who exulted (according to Peter Arno’s cartoon in The New Yorker), “Let’s go down to the Trans-Lux and hiss Roosevelt.” He never quite matched the Medieval imagery of Mario Cuomo, who saw Reagan’s America as the land of “the lucky and the left-out, the royalty and the rabble.” His image of himself was that he was not one of the “idle rich” but actively engaged in righting wrongs and helping the downtrodden. As Evan Thomas wrote this week in Newsweek, “His own ideology seems to have been rooted in liberal guilt: since the rich have a lot (like good health care), why shouldn’t the poor? Kennedy’s gifts were more of the heart than the head.”
What Kennedy and other liberals never wanted to acknowledge, however, is that when the “active rich” reach out to help the poor, they must reach over that vast muddle-in-the-middle who are neither rich nor poor but middle class and trying to make their own way. The people who oppose New Deal politics are no longer society ladies who want to hiss Roosevelt. They are Joe the Plumber, the Babbits, the Sammy Glicks — all the “men and women on the make” (that’s Woodrow Wilson’s phrase) who never show up well in films and literature but who are the mainstay of the economy and the backbone of the nation. These are the people holding “Tea Parties” and storming Town Halls protesting Obamacare. They are not glamorous. They aren’t invited to celebrity funerals. They aren’t even mentioned at them. All they want is make their own way and be left alone by the government. They have no use for liberal politicians and therefore liberals have no use for them.
Kennedy never met a tax cut he didn’t oppose, a federal program he didn’t like. He would have been happy to raise taxes to 50 percent or more in European fashion — all this in the name of “taxing the rich and helping the poor.” Yet as numerous analysts have pointed out, income taxes — the main source of this revenue — don’t really target “the rich.” Instead, they tax people who are trying to become rich, who are working hard to build their fortunes. People who are already rich aren’t affected very much by income taxes because they don’t have to depend on earned income. If that profile fits a certain Senator from the State of Massachusetts, well then maybe it isn’t too surprising.
I’ve never begrudged Senator Kennedy the outcome at Chappaquiddick. I thought he paid his dues on that by forfeiting the presidency. Without Chappaquiddick, Kennedy almost certainly would have been the Democratic nominee in 1972 or 1976 and could have won the presidency in either of them. What we got instead was the immortal ghost of Camelot, the eternal torchbearer of the “Dream That Will Never Die,” his famous 1980s Convention keynote address that was in fact the valedictory for his one unsuccessful run at the presidency.
And what was “the Dream”? Basically, it was the idea that large swathes of the American populace — a majority, even — would remain perpetually dependent on the government. No new centers of economic wealth or political power would ever arise to challenge the social configuration of the 1930s — when the old patriarch, Joe Kennedy, successfully made the transition from being a malefactor of great wealth (and reputed rum-runner) to a respectable member of the new establishment by being appointed the first Director of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
So is the Dream really over? Well, maybe not. In a perfect replica of European dynastic succession, all of Massachusetts is now holding its breath to find out whether Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the heir apparent, will give up his peerage as Duke of the Hudson Valley in order to take title to the Kennedys’ Bay State Barony. Should he deign to run for the vacant Senate seat, Kennedy the Younger would be inheriting the peerage that has been in the family since 1954 — except for a brief year interregnum between 1960 and 1962 when Benjamin Atwood Smith II, a former Harvard fullback, was appointed to fill the time between which John F. Kennedy moved up to the presidency and Edward Kennedy turned 30 so he could legally inherit the estate.
Like a loyal vassal, Smith was appointed U.S. ambassador to an international fisheries conference in 1963 in reward for his services.

Ted Kennedy should have been charged with Manslaughter not be denied the Presidency. Paying dues when you allow a person to drown to death, please this isn't something trivial.
Any lesser man would have gone to jail for letting someone drown. Ted did absolutely nothing to save the poor girl from a horrifying death.
Mary Jo didn't die quickly, she suffered because she slowly ran out of air as the vehicle filled up with water.
Ted Kennedy was a bastard as a Senator, and he was a bastard as a human being. Ted Kennedy gave his dog better treatment that Mary Jo received.

I mean, Mr. Tucker, the average Joe would forfeit the presidence too, but not because nobody knows the average Joe. It'd be due to the fact that he is serving 20 years without parole. (Now that's something ya got to explain to the voters.)

Whimsical liberals dreamt a Kennedy dynasty in the White House, JFK 61-69, RFK 69-77, Ted 77-85 and John-John in the 21st century. Unfortunately fate intervened with three persons outside the royal family messing things up, two rogues and one innocent bystander...Oswald, Sirhan and Mary Jo respectively ending that dream. Too bad Joe Jr. and John-John died in plane crashes I think these two would have been outstanding Presidents.

It's curious how "progressive" (as if statism has anything to do with progress) types, after anathematizing The Rich then exempt certain of the rich from The Enemy list. Rich people who use their wealth to create industries and jobs are evil; rich people who use their wealth to expand the power to the State and diminish liberty, are "enlightened." Odd.

Ted like most liberals liked jobs but hated employers. He would battle hard to get defense contracts for Massachusetts. While I disliked most of his politics, his staff was quite competent. His partner John Kerry is more arrogant, and he is unresponsive to constituent needs. Unfortunately this is a one-party state, so we are doomed to have more Kennedy cretins carry on.

Curious about sketchy radio reports this morning, I Googled ‘ted kennedy and kgb”. Very interesting. Not only was this slimeball the bastard Melvin calls him, he may have been a traitor. The Main Street Media may have been in on this alleged conspiracy with Soviet leadership which might explain why the sordid story is just emerging into the light. But if it is true the man should have been shot for treason twenty years ago.

Senator Kennedy was widely and deeply hated for one reason. The Senator was a blatant and openly a political rigger and fixer. There never was a even playing field nor fair play where Senator Kennedy was involved. The Kennedy's always rigged the rules in their favor. That is why he was loved by the Liberal Elite. He maintained his power by rigging the laws of the US government in the favor of the rich and politically powerful. Conservatives never had a chance when Senator Kennedy was involved.

Today it is taught in the schools that "Anti-Semitism" began in Germany in the 1930s after which they were deported. The Jews claim that they are "only" a religion. The truth is that the Jews are a RACE. Less than 30% are members of any Synagogue. Whether they are Orthodox religious, atheists, capitalists or communists - they still claim to be Jews - members of the Jewish race! Every race has inherited traits. In the case of the Jews they include trading, money-changing, usury, and a loathing for "productive labor" which is scorned as beneath the dignity of the Jews in their "bible" called "THE TALMUD."
The Jews have not changed since the days when Jesus Christ took up a whip and drove "the money changers out of the Temple." Jews have always united to form monopolies. Today they control all the department store chains and speciality shops along with the lucrative jewelry and animal fur trade. Jews dominate the fields of all precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, tin, lead, etc. They will always ban together to drive Gentile competitors out of business.
Today America is being flooded with Jewish immigrants from Russia and even 20,000 per year leave Israel for the U. S. - all with dollar signs in their eyes. Jews have used their vaunted money-power to seize control of the Democratic Party and constitute over 50% of all its financial contributions. Today they are buying up more and more major U. S. companies. While only 3% of the population, the Jews control over 25% of the nation's wealth and this percentage rises every year. They are the only racial group totally organized to work for political domination over America.
Opposition to the Jews did not begin in Germany but dates back before the birth of Christ over 2,000 years ago! Study the statements made by "The world's greatest men." They reveal why the "wandering Jews" have made enemies out of every host country that ever accepted them.

Anti-Semitic attitudes still prevail in Europe: An Anti-Defamation League report published on Tuesday showed that nearly half of the Europeans surveyed believe Jews are not loyal to their country and more than one-third believe they have "too much power" in business and finance.
The study further showed that 31% of the respondents across Europe blame Jews in the financial industry for the current global economic crisis.

The poll was conducted between the dates December 1 and January 13 among 3,500 adults in seven European countries: Austria, France, Hungary, Poland, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Overall, 40% of Europeans in those countries believe that Jews have too much power in the business world, with more than half of Hungarian, Spanish and Polish respondents agreeing with that statement.
The findings were similar to those of a 2007 ADL survey that found significant percentages of Europeans continue to believe in some of the most pernicious anti-Semitic stereotypes.
"This poll confirms that anti-Semitism remains alive and well in the minds of many Europeans," said ADL Director Abraham Foxman.
"It is distressing that there seems to be no movement away from the constancy of anti-Semitic held views, with accusations about Jews of disloyalty, control and responsibility for the death of Jesus," he added.
"In the wake of the global financial crisis, the strong belief of excessive Jewish influence on business and finance is especially worrisome," Mr. Foxman added.
"Clearly, age old anti-Semitic stereotypes die hard, particularly on a continent which is witnessing a surge in violent attacks on Jews and Jewish institutions following the war in Gaza."
'Jews talk about Holocaust too much'
A comparison with the 2007 survey indicates that levels of anti-Semitism have remained steady in six of the seven countries tested.
The United Kingdom was the only country in which there was a marked decline. Meanwhile, the percentage of those believing that Jews "have too much power in the business world" increased by 7% in Hungary, 6% in Poland and 5% in France.

Overall, nearly half of those surveyed in the seven countries believe that Jews are more loyal to Israel than to their own country. A majority of respondents in Germany, Poland and Spain believe that this statement is "probably true;" in Spain, it is 64%.

Jew hating piece of filth, it is true that in many societies the Jews were hated, even persecuted and killed. But the primary reason for this hostility is that they attempted to stay true to The One God. Under the laws of Imperial Rome, for example, they were considered traitors because they refused to worship the emperors. This Roman hostility was later extended to the Christians for the same reason. So take your bilge and crawl back into the cesspool of despair from which you crawled. Oops! Former ministers Abraham Hirchson and Shlomo Benizri arrived at the Hermon and Maasiyahu prisons Tuesday, to begin servicing their prison sentences.
Ex-Finance Minister Hirchson was convicted of multiple counts of fraud and was sentenced to five years in jail, which he will serve at Hermon Prison.
Former Shas minister Benizri, also convicted of fraud, was sentenced to four years incarceration, which he will serve at Maasiyahu Prison.

Dozens of Shas activists and party members gathered outside Maasiyahu Prison ahead of Benizri's arrival in a show of support, including Shas Chairman Eli Yishai, Housing and Construction Minister Ariel Atias and Knesset members Avraham Michaeli, Meshulam Nahari, Yitzhak Vaknin, Amnon Cohen, David Azoulay.
"You can see the public's pain and frustration," an emotional Benizri told the press gathered outside the facility. "I'm trying to overcome my feelings, but someone has to hear the public's cry. These are not just the tears of the few standing here, but those of the thousands I've said goodbye to over the past few weeks. They are the ones who've been punished, not me."

Mass police presence was noted outside Maasiyahu, as demonstrators slammed the court's decision and the media.
"This is a difficult day, when a minister in Israel finds him behind bars just because his last name is Benizri. He is innocent," a protestor told Ynet.
"This should be a day of soul searching for the judicial system," said MK Azoulay. "You can't say justice was served here. This was an unprecedented persecution of an innocent man. The Supreme Court should do some soul searching."
Hirchson's arrival at the Hermon Prison was far less dramatic:The former minister arrived at the facility accompanied by two family members, and did not address the press.
Once inside the prison, he underwent the routine admission process.
Sad day for Knesset, dark day for politics
A source close to Hirchson told Ynet that "unlike another minister who is also going to jail, Hirchson handled himself with dignity. He did not want to turn his few last days as a free man, or his arrival at the prison, into a circus."

"This is a sad day for the Knesset and for Israel," said Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin.
"Nevertheless, if one was convicted in a court of law one must pay the price. This is a sad day for the Knesset, which is doing everything it can to redeem its public perception.
"Let's hope that this will not only deter others, but reinforce the public's understanding that ministers are held accountable and are not above the law."

WASHINGTON- As the US mourns Senator Edward Kennedy, the Jewish community and friends of Israel expressed their deep sorrow at the passing of the veteran legislator, who had advocated for Israel throughout his 47 years in the Senate.
AIPAC published an announcement of the senator's death Wednesday in which it described him as "a staunch supporter of the US-Israel relationship and a true and longstanding friend of America's pro-Israel community."

"During his more than four decades in the US Senate, Sen. Kennedy consistently supported American assistance to Israel, particularly during the Jewish state's most trying times, in the wake of the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War," wrote AIPAC.
Kennedy spearheaded the struggle in Washington against weapons sales to Israel's enemies. He also vocally condemned the Arab League boycott against Israel, and sharply criticized the UN for isolating Israel. During his service as in the Senate, he pushed his colleagues to recognize Jerusalem as the unified capital of Israel, and cautioned against the threat of global terrorism.
The veteran statesman was one of the leaders of the struggle against Jewish persecution in the Soviet Union, a subject particularly close to his heart, even raising the issue personally in meetings with Soviet leaders during which he often requested that exit permits be granted Jews seeking to immigrate. He also demanded that the US provide Israel with loan guarantees to absorb the Jewish refugees.

The problem with the Kennedys of this country is that they want to 'help the poor' using the hard earned tax dollars of working Americans. If the Kennedys used their own money to finance their charitable intentions, it would be noble; but in using taxpayers' money, they are only rich, power-hungry, hypocrites. They dispense governmental money as manna to the poor and expect/demand their votes for Democrats in return. They don't care about solving the problems of the poor, but only wish to provide quid-pro-quo welfare to indigent minorities. If the poor had access to a decent public educational system, they would become learned enough to financially provide for themselves and would not need this welfare and/or Democrats such as the Kennedys. Politicians such as the Kennedys are noting but SLAVE-MASTERS!!!

Instead of serving a lifetime in the U.S. Senate, Kennedy should have served several years in prison for DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene, obstruction of justice, and perjury. If he had come from one of the "working families" he pretended to represent, he would have. He made a mockery of justice. He was aided and abetted of course by about 2/3 of Massachusetts voters.
