Not Gonna Write About It

The audacity of nope.

There are times when it's just too depressing to write about politics. This is one of those times. The welfare-reform-killing, debt-exploding, generational-thieving, pork-laden, growth-inhibiting, utterly unnecessary and counterproductive monstrosity that the Obamites and Pelosians just shoved down the nation's throats has left me in a deep numbness akin to one of the stages of grief.

What's worse is that the $800 billion stick-it-to-us package is just the beginning. Everywhere one looks in Congress there are bills being lined up with tiny provision after tiny provision that harm entrepreneurs, enrich union bosses and plaintiffs' attorneys at the expense of the rest of the populace, punish productivity, undermine our cultural heritage and cultural literacy, expand the leviathan state, eliminate private choices and responsibility, and whittle away at free speech or other rights and privileges of citizenship. And the vast majority of those provisions will pass, by hook or quite often by crook, with our president and our speaker and Majority Leader Harry Reid ignoring every rule or pledge or promise they need to ignore in order to get their way.

Behind the gauzy, post-partisan halo the establishment media has painted around the cover-boy visage of Barack Obama lies one of the most cynically calculating pols in living memory. He promises to abide by campaign spending limits -- except when he won't. He won't hire lobbyists -- unless he makes a dozen exceptions to the rule. He'll run a transparent government, posting everything on the web -- except when it is inconvenient. He'll say he's bipartisan -- except when it comes time to actually deal with real substance. And he can no more disown his pastor than he can disown his white grandmother -- unless the pastor embarrasses him again, of course.

Obama has a certain maneuver -- the “smile broadly for the audience while he sticks a shiv in you" -- down to a fine art.

Again, it's all too depressing.

Which is why I wasn't going to write about politics. And I'm not, I promise. It's just too worrisome to think about how Obama is going to gut missile defense just when it is starting to work more consistently. Just can't write about that right now. And I just can't bear to write about how the Rodham Clinton State Department has already begun its imitation of Jimmy Carter, with the fervent belief that if we make nice to evil regimes they will stop being evil. All those developments are not merely depressing, but far too scary to either write or think about. So I won't. I promise.

Really.

Instead, just relax. Pick up a good old, sturdy hardback book (before old hardbacks are incinerated -- I'm not making this up -- to comply with the new anti-lead law that took effect Feb. 10). Watch a thoughtful movie that actually has a somewhat redemptive ending.* (Hollywood makes one or two of them in a good year -- and good years occur at least once every decade, perhaps.) Listen to some catchy pop tunes whose lyrics celebrate love instead of sex. (You can find some of those on old LPs, I understand. You still have a turntable, don't you?)

Oh -- and if you want to do something to protest the filth that corrupts pop culture, definitely don't ask the politicians to do anything about it. Besides the fact that this column promised not to be about politics, the simple fact is that the politicians won't bother anyway, because they think all expression is protected, especially if it is crass or vulgar, except political expression they don't agree with. Such political expression, don't you understand, is what's really dangerous, and just in the past week both Bill Clinton and Sen. Tom Harkin said government bureaucrats should keep it off the airwaves.

But we're not going to talk about that. That's politics, and it's just too depressing.

But politics wasn't always so depressing. As Citizens United, along with Newt and Callista Gingrich, reminded us with their recently released Reagan documentary, Rendezvous With Destiny, there was a time when our presidents told us that great things waited around the corner, and told us we would get there if we took the very steps he outlined on the campaign trail.

Now, though, we have a president who warns us of “catastrophe" if we don't do what he says -- even though what he just demanded in the stimulus abomination runs contrary to the fiscal rectitude he explicitly and repeatedly promised during the campaign….

Oops -- I guess I spent a whole column writing about politics. No big deal: If a president can make exceptions for every one of his promises, I guess a columnist can, too.

*Shameless promotion: If you want to see a truly good one, watch Crossroads on TMC, The Movie Channel, which I think runs tonight, Monday Feb. 16, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.

How was is that Communism enslaved millions of people without nary a revolt. It was easy the Soviet Union kept their people illiterate.
Simply put, a ignorant man doesn't question the state he only knows how to follow and fear it.
A literate man will question authority, therefore he becomes a threat to the state.

Jeremiah| 2.16.09 @ 8:17AM

Under the Fainess Doctrine this article will disappear. Conservatives don't have a clue. We won.

Todd| 2.16.09 @ 9:16AM

That is what the commies like you want right Jeremiah? Why not just outlaw the two-party system and make Obama President for life Chavez style? Maybe in your wet dreams. You know Obama is a liar just like he was taught to be Alinsky style, Quin states all the lies already so lets see you deny them? This is not Venezuela though and this clown will be put into his place after his disastrous first term. The only history he will be making is whether he will be an even worst President than that old fool Jimmy.

Melvin| 2.16.09 @ 9:17AM

No Jeremiah, you didn't win, the Country is the one that loses.

Turnabout, AKA Fair Play| 2.16.09 @ 9:18AM

"We won," says Jeremiah, thereby giving the Left ability and justification to suppress its "enemies" (read: those who disagree on any substantive point. Hell, any trivial point). Obviously, Jeremiah, you think "we won" at last and for all time. Of course, once the big dog of America shakes the mud from its coat once again, as it always does eventually, and Jeremiah's smug left whines "we lost," I expect to hear again all the old familiar lefty panic about "shredding the Constitution," "right-wing theocracy," and "dissent is the highest form of patriotism"... As the Lectroid said, laugh while you can, monkey boy.

J David| 2.16.09 @ 9:27AM

It's a real DRAG to see your predictions coming true isn't, Mr Hillyer? Mine are happening too, as the nations of the world join their economies into one global money system...Including ours.

Anthony| 2.16.09 @ 10:17AM

"We won", so says the idiot savant, Jeremiah. And who exactly do you think "we" are? You're just a useful troll, whose usefulness will be short lived. You & your fellow trolls will be working in the rice paddies along with the rest of us. You're not a member of the club, pal, or didn't you get the memo? You're just one of the useful idiots, soon to be expendible. But don't worry J, we'll leave you there in the paddies when the revolt starts. It will be a fitting place for you.

erp| 2.16.09 @ 10:26AM

"The Novice" is not listed on TMC for tonight and a search of Yahoo TV listings doesn't bring it up at all. Fairness Doctrine already in effect?

JP| 2.16.09 @ 10:56AM

JHap,
The majority of the cost of the Iraq war were covered by present taxation. Congressional domestic spendin g(a la Meidcare Prescription Drugs, the 2005 Transportation Bill, Ag Subsidies) drove the deficit up. Obama's Spending Bill will all be BORROWED MONEY ($1.5 trillion when interest is included).

And don't believe that alot of the money will be spent stateside. Many of the Middle Class will go to Walmart (the CHICOMS should be happy). Most of theGreen technology and manufacturing is overseas, many of the software developers who write smartgrid software code live in Mumbai and Hong Kong.

But hey, at least the Beverly Hills Jetset will be able to enjoy the $13 billion high speed rail line that will be built between Vegas and LA. Schools such as those in Milwaukee will be getting billions to build new classrooms they don't need (they already have 50% too much capacity -ie too many classroom, to few students); and farmers will reap extra billions in the bio-fuels industry.

JP| 2.16.09 @ 11:02AM

"Under the Fainess Doctrine this article will disappear. Conservatives don't have a clue. We won. "

So, after 8 years and hundreds of millions in campagin costs, PR, spin, etc... The Left is reduced to "We Won"

Enjoy it the ride while you can, Jerimiah. Paybacks can be a....

Ken Bean| 2.16.09 @ 11:54AM

Mr. Hillyer,
What are loyal Americans to DO about all you wrote about?
Ken

JP| 2.16.09 @ 11:59AM

Jharp,
er...the total cost of the war has been $900 billion (since November 2001 invasion of Afghanistan). I'm not sure where you got the $4 trillion from, unless you are adding in 8 years of defecit spending under Bush. You see, since 2003, revenues have gone up to the tune of $800 billion (mainly due to the 2002 tax cuts). Additional spending (d0mestic) is much different from the war spending as it was never considered back in 2001 when the WOT began. That is, the tax cuts have essientially subsidized the war.

Since 2002 we have added 1/2 trillion in transportation spending, $400 billion in added education spending; another $400 billion in added ag subsidies; some $500 billion in prescription drug benefits; and of course, $300 billion in EIC; some $200 billion in SCHIPS (child and mother Medicaid benefits)... would you like more? All of these things the Democratic minority voted for in lockstep with the GOP Majority. Over $3 trillion in un or underfunded domestic spending created the defecits -not the war.

Dustoff| 2.16.09 @ 12:54PM

Jharp
Of which $1 trillion was for an unnecessary war.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

OOO-yeah, that WAR that YOUR party voted for and asked us to do for years before 9/11.

I see history failed you.

Nick| 2.16.09 @ 12:58PM

JP,

Don't forget, every year from '01 to '06 democrats screamed bloody murder that the Republicans were cutting spending too much.

Then they would try to increase the spending. Like they did with the drug benefit bill. The democrat party ALWAYS wants to spend more money. Because their nutroots are full of morons like jackass-harp.

"Bush and the GOP added $5 trillion..."-jackass-harp
And if the democrats had had their way, it would've been $10 trillion!

Quin Hillyer| 2.16.09 @ 1:35PM

Note on THE NOVICE: Its name has been changed to "Crossroads." It IS on TMC tonight.

clashseeker| 2.16.09 @ 1:38PM

To Whom it may concern, don't let dopes like Jeremiah or jharp get away with pulling your chain. WE should a pull a chain, build a giant toilet marked " For Liberal Aholes Only ", and flush it. Your answer to anything these birds state should be that giant flushing sound. Of course, I am grateful that many of you add to the record thoughtful and factual answers to their crazed assertions, but at some point flush them down the drain. Instead of wasting your educated and talented minds answering these guys, please devise a battle plan so we can fight back. There are ways to hurt these people that are legal. Those of us who won't plunk down a nickel for their rotten newspapers are a silent , uncoordinated effort to put a hurt on some really vile institutions. And, they do feel the pain. So where is the battle plan ? Read a hard cover, listen to oldies and sonatas, find a decent movie ? Add, that to this business of reading LLBean catologues in the wilderness , and we have a battle plan by golly. Patton is applauding I am sure. But, laying low for now may be fine. The whole winter of discontent scenario. Maybe the democrats audacity will swell even more, and they will explode themselves with their own self created gas. A green gas no doubt. Wait em out till it all comes tumbling down, is that it ? But, that could take a long time. I am 60, a viet nam war vet, I want to fight these bastards now while I still have some fight in me. Or, do I just talk to the younger ones in my circle. Explain what is happening, and how they must be ready to take the country back when the moment arises , is that the strategy ?

Interloper| 2.16.09 @ 2:03PM

Quin Hillyer, have you considered suicide? If you find the world as bleak as you claim, there really is no reason for you to keep on living. The clock will not wind back to 1860 or even 1960. LPs are way over, and CDs on their way out, Reagan will be remembered for the race-baiting speech he gave at the Neshoba County Fair in 1980 more so than any other, Newt Gingrich's current wife will go the way of his previous ones, the useless missile defense system will be abandoned, etc. Someone you consider an 'uppity n-word' will be the President of the United States for eight years. Frankly, there's nothing for you to stick around for. Persons of your mediocrity and mendacity are not needed.

As for the majority of American citizens, we are pleased to have escaped the long nightmare of the Bush administration. We look forward to repairing harm done by it to the economic system, domestic concerns and foreign policy. We express our support of President Obama in glowing approval rates in polls daily, weekly and monthly. We embrace the future.

Diehard| 2.16.09 @ 2:14PM

History lesson: New republicans are forged in the democrat's debacles.

Nick| 2.16.09 @ 2:22PM

interloper,

There's a word to desribe people like you - SLAVE.

Or better yet, a phrase - Battered Wife Syndrome.

After 8 years of getting beat up and cheated on by bubba the pervert, you guys are gunshy. Whatever B.O. says you will believe it, because you can't face the alternative- that he will cheat on you the first chance he gets.

Jeremy Jester| 2.16.09 @ 2:30PM

I am quite certain I'll be among the first sent to a socialist re-education gulag...

John Gault| 2.16.09 @ 2:34PM

The answer is to give them what they want. Get out of their way and let the people who voted for these idiots feel the real effects of the policies they are clamoring for.

Reduce and retrench your life, do not contribute, do not help them, do not try to stop them either. Let them fight amongst themselves (as they are starting to do already). Walk away from the system as best you can, when the time is right we can reclaim this country, but its going to be a while and it will only happen after there has been a cleansing.

Let it burn. What comes around goes around.

V| 2.16.09 @ 2:38PM

clashseeker,

I know how you feel, seek out your local appleseedinfo.org organization, join it and start making a difference.

Marc Jeric| 2.16.09 @ 3:08PM

I escaped from a communist country back in 1957. I know the signs when I see them - relentless propaganda, lying news, false statistics, reversals of cause and effect, new names for oppression such as "liberation", "social justice", "fairness". And of course the gulag - certain to come before 2012, you know - for re-education purposes only.

Interloper| 2.16.09 @ 3:14PM

V, the site you recommend urges people to become marksmen - being able to shoot any target from a distance. It also says that election of a Democrat as president is a sign of national decline that must be reversed. Do you all have a specific target in mind?

Oldfarte| 2.16.09 @ 3:25PM

It is absolutely "TOO DEPRESSING" that an inexperienced, typically slick, politician has once again [ie, JFK and Bill Clinton] brainwashed the leftist lemmings into either going off the cliff, THELMA & LOUISE style [unfortionately, rational humans are being dragged over the edge as well]; or, while their scant brain matter slowely drips down their legs, they spread out their mats, discard their shoes, kneel down and pray to their Messiah for welfaric manna from heavenly government. The NAACP accurately proclaimed in a former ad that A MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE!!!!!!!

Diehard| 2.16.09 @ 3:44PM

jharp, Do you think the country is better off now than it was two years ago when the dems took control of both houses of congress? Can we stop pretending a dem congress is both impotent and omnipotent?

Dustoff| 2.16.09 @ 3:50PM

Jharp
5 trillion added to the debt
+++++++++++++++++++++++

LOL, you stupid fool. So 5 trillion is bad, but your DEM's want to add another 3 trillion to it...

(two wrongs, never make a right)

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 4:33PM

InertGroper, you would make a terrific target with that orange jumpsuit of yours (or is it pink?)

clashseeker| 2.16.09 @ 4:34PM

Interloper, I just shrugged off V's suggestion when I first read. But, once I saw it was a place that angered and disgusted you , I bookmarked it ASAP. Soon I will send them. You're gonna get a fight. Gault, we must know howto financially damage more than newspapers. These media conglomerates are so interconnected and suck our money out in many ways. Cable and its set up is a dubious financial entity, as we pay for all these chanells rather than just pick and choose what we want. And the advertising dollar that funds network tv, who in the world watches these adds in the age of remote control ? Yet, these add expenditures are a tax for media for every product purchased. We need to hurt these bastards. Forget guns, hit em in the pocketbook. Liberals love money more that the worst media created Republican caricature of evil and greed. Yet, they get away with being altruistic and caring.

Rick Josey| 2.16.09 @ 4:59PM

Great article, Quinn. Many Americans are feeling down because they see their country slouching towards socialism. But this the time for us to regroup, re-educate ourselves in the principles that made this country great and sharpen out wit. We can have lots of fun mocking the stupid things that Congress is doing. Daily. Better that the comic strips.

It's time to raise up patriots and ignite a revolution.

Larry C. Roberts, MD, MA| 2.16.09 @ 5:41PM

Two books explain much of what is happening in America. The first is The Vision of the Anointed, by Thomas Sowell, and the second, more frightening, is The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, by William Shirer. The former gives the motives, and the latter describes the means for subjugating a free people. The parallels with pre-1936 Nazi Germany are so striking as to be make one believe he is reliving history. Obama’s apocalyptic language is appropriate, but not in the way he intended. We must commit to live free or die.

Larry C. Roberts, MD, MA

Diehard| 2.16.09 @ 6:28PM

jharp, I can't remember, who was majority leader in 2007?

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 6:31PM

jharp the moron wrote:*And I say we are no better off today than 2 years ago. But clearly we were far better off when Clinton handed Bush a surplus back in 2001. *

From 1995 to 2000 the whole Congress was Republican, as.shole!

Jim| 2.16.09 @ 6:43PM

Jharp, your rants are without merit and do not warrant a response from anyone over twelve years old. Are you paid by the post or the response?

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 7:18PM

You're right, jbarf. Bush should have sent the last Congress to Gitmo.

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 7:23PM

Adkisson's manifesto (was he a marxist, too?) only shows that liberals really drive people crazy, because the guy just behaved like a libturd, killing innocent Christians instead of pervert teachers or sleazy community organizers.

Alan Brooks| 2.16.09 @ 7:23PM

i like Obama, as he doesn't smoke crack or shoot meth.
Obama doesn't booty call hos in the 'Hood and get them knocked up.

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 7:26PM

Anyway most pedophiles and child molesters are liberals, they lack any moral compass and don't believe there is a need for one. They just don't know right from wrong, they would have voted for Michael Jackson or OJ Simpson had they been on the libturd ticket.

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 7:30PM

The same goes for serial killers, rapists, gang bangers and crack dealers, they are all liberals according to polls taken in various jails.

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 7:43PM

Impressive comment. Can't you do better than that? No, I guess you can't. Liberals are also responsible for WWI , WWII and Vietnam War. They are very good at starting wars or sending missiles on forlorn countries nobody care about. And they A-bombed Japan. Great humanists those liberal turds!

Alan Brooks| 2.16.09 @ 7:43PM

i wasnt surprised in the slightest in 1995 when oj beat the rap. i told my journalist acquaintance, Frank, early that afternoon that oj would be acquitted, and Frank replied "you're crazy, they got his bloodwork down pat".
when the verdict was announced, i rang him and he said "i can't talk, i'm too depressed". click.
much later, i told him michael jackson would be acquitted for touching underage phallus, round #2.
he said "no way, not twice".
i got him on the horn after the jacko verdict, but he hung up right after hearing my voice.
we havent talked since, but i heard he gave up journalism.

V| 2.16.09 @ 7:45PM

Clashseeker and Interloper,

Actually, the point of Appleseed is not for anyone to shoot anyone but is perhaps best summed up here http://appleseedinfo.org/blog/?p=60

Partisan bashing for the last 8, 18, 80 years has gotten none of us anywhere. Perhaps we need to go back to the basics, the founding of this country and look for answers there...

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 7:48PM

And they turned a venerable paper like the NYT into a liberal, antisemitic, antiamerican piece of trash. Whenever and wherever a liberal shows up, there goes the neighborhood, the culture, the ethics and freedom of speech.

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 7:51PM

And all racists nutcases like Duke, Wallace, Jesse Jackson, Farrakhan or Rev.Wright were liberals. Talk about equal opportunity activity.

Alan Brooks| 2.16.09 @ 8:06PM

so why do you come to TAS, jcarp?
NAMBLA might be more your style.

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 8:21PM

Most sex offenders are liberals, most college dropouts are liberals, most drug addicts are liberals and most people committed in mental health hospitals were liberals. As a matter of fact, schizophrenia has been labeled "the liberal plague"

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 8:24PM

Most intolerant people are liberals because they cannot withstand contradiction and debate without insulting their opponent and cancelling their right to free speech.

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 8:26PM

You forgot Ann Coulter, jckass. You're pretty new at this game, aren't you?

Interloper| 2.16.09 @ 8:29PM

SLT, don't be too hard with jharp, give him a chance to learn the ropes.

Alan Brooks| 2.16.09 @ 8:31PM

jcarp,
Bush is no longer president and is no longer culpable.
in 1993 it became Clinton's responsibility.
in 1977 it became Carter's responsibility.
now IT IS Obama's responsibility.

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 8:35PM

Oh my God! He's crying! Listen jbarf, can't we all get along?

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 9:06PM

Your right hand must ignore what your left hand does. Most bipolar disorder patients are liberals.

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 9:10PM

"Get used to it, guys. You won, however bitter the aftertaste."
Right on! They're longing for good ole bipartisanship so they can split the blame when their ineptness becomes blatant. Sorry, guys. You're on your own.

Alan Brooks| 2.16.09 @ 9:35PM

jcarp,
you say banks are going to fail in the months ahead. how many banks are going to fail? ballpark.
it matters greatly if it is only a few banks, or whether savings are evaporated and... well, it is not pleasant to write or to think about.

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 9:37PM

jbarf, you're dead and you don't know it yet. You guys have been dead for years when the wall fell down. You're just living dead rising from the sewer but we'll get used to it. In 2 years you'll go back where you belong, this is already a fact

S.L. Toddard| 2.16.09 @ 9:50PM

Jharp is Interloper/Jeremiah and is being paid for by Soros. Just another liberal whore prostituting himself for power. Boring. One terroist attack on our soil and Obomber and his liberals are going down in flames. Just one.

speedypete| 2.16.09 @ 10:35PM

Everyone remembers that Bush ran huge deficits in his 8 years and we need to blame both sides of the aisle. However, if the clueless can remember Congressman Gingrich and President Clinton reduced taxes and spending and brought about surplus budgets and a booming economy until Congressman Gingrich left and creed, AKA, the spend and print money mentality returned. Then 9/11 hit us because of the throw backs in the CIA and the FBI let us down. Both sides of the aisle again both sided with the President and it cost a fortune. The larger fortune was social programs again from both sides of the aisle. Now, step back a little further to double digit interest rates, double digit unemployement and a deflation in GDP. Give up? We had President Jimmy Carter and Paul Volker burying the country in debt and socialism. What did it take to get us out of this downward spiral that only took 4 years. President Reagan went to work with Tip O'Neill, you know, a Democrat, and they crafted an economic recovery based on helping the private sector, you know, manufacturing and other industries that could respond the fastest to give people good paying jobs based on exported products either out of their town , state or country. And when I was out of work and put my head on my pillow the weeks after President Reagan took office I was told that everything would be OK and we are a great nation and we will pull ourselves up. Now the reason for the well written article above, Quin Hillyer is voicing his concern that from President Obama he has witnessed what we all have, broken promises, a parade of news stories about despair scripted by our new President and retreads, yes even Paul Volker is back increasing the debt without support for jobs. I don't care who you are but you better start understanding that 13 - 17% for businesses to recover is meaningless. President Carter already proved it.

ruth| 2.16.09 @ 10:41PM

Pervert in Chief Clinton and Jamie Gorelick were responsible for the 'wall' which prevented security agencies from sharing information: Result was 9/11. Clinton was tring to protect his butt from more investigations. Don't blame it on the CIA or FBI. Give credit where credit is due: Clinton.

Todd| 2.16.09 @ 11:04PM

No one is going to miss your miserable rantings jcrap. I am sure you would try to charge us with thoughtcrimes or sppech crimes if you could freak. Go handle your business elsewhere loser.

tonypal| 2.16.09 @ 11:15PM

I'm gonna miss jharp. I will miss the classics, such as "suck on this," "you're an idiot," "funny how you jackasses....,"You're an imbecile. And a liar" and "I'm aware. Birdbrain." Of course, who can forget " three time divorced, drug addicted, racist, lardass," a reference to Rush Limbaugh.

I'm pretty sure I missed a few, but you get the picture. I wonder if he's leaving us because he has concluded that we are beneath him or because he's waiting for the next edition of "Pithy Liberal Putdowns" to come out. If it's the latter, I just don't know how long I can wait for another "Are you trying to outstupid the other wingnuts here?" Classic.

Alan Brooks| 2.16.09 @ 11:31PM

Right on Ruth!

Every non-liberal on this site and everywhere else needs to remember that the definition of a racist is someone winning an argument with a liberal on a matter of race.

ruth| 2.17.09 @ 12:57AM

Tonypal, they got nothin'! Good will triumph over evil.

JTS| 2.17.09 @ 1:15AM

Well, QH, it is quite the bummer. I'm up late, recovering from surgery, studying for a finance test and read your sad writings. I can't think about it anymore, since I have been yelling at my TV, radio, newspaper, dog, kids, neighbor kids , wife and anyone else who happened by for the past 3 or so years; "If the Republicans and Bush don’t get it together, we're in for a world of S%#*!"

Sadly, I do lay a lot of blame for our current state of affairs on GWB's doorstep. There came a time shortly after the 04 election – about a year or so I guess – that I just couldn't defend him anymore (to be sure, it was building sooner, but one must hold on to hope). I don't mean against the tinfoil hat crowd or the disgusting Lefty traitors – that was easy. I mean against the charge of him being incompetent. I was in the first Gulf War and I have to say, Gen. Schwartscopf (sp?), was a great commander, as were many of the ranking staff (Powell really didn’t do too much, but he was the Chief, so I guess he gets some credit).

War’s difficult; plans and strategies turn into vapor more times than not (we used to call Plans and Scheduling “Schemes and Dreams”) Bush cannot be blamed for every action, inaction, mistake, crime and/or general idiocy of every troop, civilian or contractor in theater. But the utter stubbornness to change direction when events called for was just baffling.

It was if he was clueless to the mounting dislike for the war’s cost and feeling that things were beginning to fall apart. It led to a much longer war with probably more casualties than would have been if it was conducted like a war, rather than a mop up mission. But it was if Bush called out the Dogs of War and then went about petting the Poodles of Peace to gain some intangible feeling of good will from liberals and – I don’t know, bin Laden? If you are going to fight a war, then damn it! Fight a war! Fire the Sec Def if he’s not getting it done! But he stood by Rummy for much too long.

At the same time, Bush at home was simply not engaged. He stated on a few occasions that he didn’t view the presidency in a political way – the same for his father. They seem to think that it is beneath the president to have even the hint of a political agenda. So while his enemies launched salvo after salvo of toxic hatred, lies and insults, Bush stood there allowing his friends get creamed.

The same could be said for Katrina. Why didn’t he go on national TV just before it hit and say “Get out! If you do not get out, you may die!” and call on mayor School Bus Nagen and that idiot governor to act – be proactive! Don’t look at the disaster surrounding you and say “Good job, Brownie!” No, we can’t answer back. We must be above it all. Too bad we look like incompetent dolts, but what ya gunna do?

On top of this, he fights for the right of 12 million illegal aliens to sneak across a rickety fence, plop out a baby and claim a welfare check and a Democrat voter’s registration – “I have a brilliant idea! I’ll put Teddy Kennedy in charge of immigration! Then they’ll like me!” In the mean time, my son is attending middle school in Texas has to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish! Yeah! We love you George!

It was all too nauseating to watch. Bush was a piss poor president and McCain would have been just as bad. A friend asked me “So, look what we have now! Like it?!” No, but McCain would have done what different? The Stimulus Package? Immigration? What, you mean McCain would have only went ¾ of the way. Let America take the lumps. I’m not going to scream at the neighbor kids for another 4 years. Or my dog.

It’s a sad thing, QH. But we will come out stronger for having lost. Chin up, Old Boy!

But spend 800 billion here at home to put Americans back to work...

It's cute how you believe that.

Appleby| 2.17.09 @ 1:12PM

To the one above who said we can't go back to the 1960s ... for those of us who were IN the 1960s once, the blabber coming out of the mouth of King O proves YES WE CAN.

It is the same blabber I heard in 1968 when I was dodging around Vietnam Teach-Ins and campus riots and children linking arms and whining 'ALLLL WE ARE SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYINGGGGGGGGG..." trying to get an education.

Heck, this crapola came out in the 1950s when Tom Hayden spewed it forth (and you can find it on line if you look up Hayden Manifesto) and it was, um, poo poo then and it is poo poo today.

Ask your grandfather if any of this sounds familiar. If he wasn't too stoned to remember it, he can probably tell you some tales that will make your ears whirl like pinwheels.

clashseeker| 2.17.09 @ 2:58PM

Jharp would have exploded if Bush had done Waco. Instead, he wants Clinton and Reno on Rushmore. Appleby, destroying the 50's was step one in their revolution.

Oldefart| 2.17.09 @ 5:30PM

Jharp is your typical brainless, imbicilic liberal FOOL who worships at the altar of his religion [government], and prays for welfaric manna to reign down upon him and his fellow unemployeds [or underemployeds]. A simple proposal to all such mental lightweights: What if government [taxes & expendatures] was reduced by 75% [if social welfare programs were completely eliminated in the process]----could the Democrat Party and its illerate constituents survive on their own, without the hard work of income earners and their [tax] funding of WELFARE??????

Dean| 2.17.09 @ 10:10PM

Did you know that the name "Jeremiah" means "appointed by Yahweh," namely the Jewish and Christian God? I wonder if this Jeremiah acknowledges the claims of God on his life, as indicated by his pen name.

Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart..."

Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”

Jeremiah 29:11, “'For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

JackSpicer| 2.18.09 @ 1:16AM

I read that entire screed closely and I did not find any recognition of the economic calamity occurring in our country. Nor did I find a single idea for dealing with it.

JackSpicer| 2.18.09 @ 1:27AM

It's curious to me that conservatives do not condemn Limbaugh for saying he wants Obama to fail and the economy to fall apart. Is it somehow patriotic or principled to want to see millions of Americans lose their homes, end up hungry, with no health care? Is it patriotic to want to see the president of the U.S. fail?

Frosty| 2.18.09 @ 1:31AM

Jacky boy, we're in an economic calamity alright, but you've seen nothin' yet--just wait until you moronic marxists get done with our country.

Frosty| 2.18.09 @ 1:33AM

Is it patriotic to let marxists destroy your country? I think not, Jack boy.

ccc| 2.18.09 @ 7:03AM

by 2912 or 2016 the republicans will likely win control of executive and legislative branches. Either they will enact their espoused ideals of fiscal restraint and limited government or follow their historical agenda of jacking up spending and growing the government as much as possible. Place your bets.

S.L. Toddard| 2.18.09 @ 9:23AM

JackMeUp, Rush doesn't want Obummer to fail, because he expects Him to fail anyway, he just wants Him to fail FAST, so Republicans can fix the situation in 2010. You don't seriously believe Obummer is gonna succeed, do you?

clashseeker| 2.18.09 @ 11:32AM

They called Bush a monkey. Actually the democrats are the monkeys, they weigh about two tons each, and are biting off or hands and ripping off our faces.

ruth| 2.18.09 @ 2:33PM

Ha ha ha, ccc, the repubs grow government. Small timers next to the 'hogs at the trough' liberals.
