I’m about 85% sure this isn’t an April Fool’s joke, but only because she can’t be a worse addition to The View lineup of shrieking harpies than Rosie O’Donnell.
Barbara Walters understands that, since people have moved on to binge-watching serial Internet television programs and cable news while the work from home and/or wait patiently for their monthly Social Security checks, her now-ancient daily chat show is in need of a serious makeover. Producers thought, perhaps of replacing O’Donnell with a bevy of uncontrollable, screaming wildlife, but were apparently made aware that most viewers would not know the difference, and so Barbara Walters had to come up with a new idea on how to revamp her flagging program.
America, it seems, has a fever. And the only prescription is more leftovers from the 1990s.
Retired news legend Barbara Walters still has some clout – and a strong opinion about how ABC can turn things around at the ratings-challenged show she created, The View.
Barbara’s magic bullet: Monica Lewinsky.
Walters says that the former White House intern would be a ‘run away success’ on The View, a network source tells Daily Mail Online.
She would attract great guests – even if casting her as a regular co-host would make it unlikely that potential 2016 Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton or President Bill Clinton would ever appear on the show again.
Barbara may not have a say, however. She sold all of her rights to The View when she retired in 2014, and she can merely “suggest” improvements to the producers. But since they’re pretty much out of ideas – they’ve even considered adding Joy Behar back into the mix, since she couldn’t even do what Al Sharpton has done and succeed in prime time cable news – they might just take her up on it.
Now, I honestly just think that Monica Lewinsky is having a “moment,” with this sudden resurgence of 90s nostalgia and the prospect of a Hillary Clinton Presidency. She hasn’t done much in the last few decades, so reality television notoriety suits her just fine. As for whether she’d be a good co-host for The View, well, it’s not so much whether she’d be intelligent enough to speak on the “hot topics” of the day without sounding like a complete moron – The View has long since passed any need for real conversation – but how incredible it would be to see Monica Lewinsky on television every single day while Hillary is hitting the stump. It would almost be too much to bear. And that’s why I think it’ll probably never happen. Why give us something we’d like out of a mid-day chat show?
