At this hour, German authorities are engaged in a manhunt for a gunman who went on a shooting rampage at the Olympia-Einkaufszentrum (OEZ) shopping mall in Munich. As of this writing, the number of fatalities are unknown.
The OEZ is situated near Munich’s Olympic Stadium where 11 Israeli athletes were murdered by Palestinian terrorists during the 1972 Summer Olympics.
The attack comes only days after an Afghan refugee stabbed several people on a commuter train in Bavaria. Fortunately, there were no fatalities. It would appear there will be no such luck this time around.
Given that these attacks are being broadcast on social media affiliated with ISIS, I would be very surprised if this wasn’t an act of Islamic terrorism.
UPDATE: At least six people are dead as a result of the mall shooting. Gunfire has also been reported at a Munich Metro station. Police are calling it an “acute terror situation” and Munich is effectively on lockdown.
UPDATE II: Evidently the report of gunfire at the Munich Metro station proved to be a false alarm. The patrons of the OEZ shopping mall were not so fortunate.
Nine people were killed before the gunman took his own life. He has not been named other than he is an 18-year old German-Iranian. As usual, the media is claiming the motive for the attack is unknown. We seem to be having an awful lot of people with unknown motives.
