Stephanopoulos Won’t Moderate ABC News Presidential Debate
by

Sen. Rand Paul and Sen. Mike Lee appear to be the first Republicans to officially object to George Stephanopolous’s lack of neutrality, with Paul issuing a statement this afternoon calling Stephanopolous’s allegiances into question and Mike Lee’s communications director taking to Twitter vowing not to let his boss take to the airwaves until the matter is resolved.

The RNC hasn’t followed suit, which is odd considering that they’d lined up at least one debate with ABC news, but it seems they might not need to. Stephanopolous himself has at least acknowledged that moderating between nominees of one party while giving to the opposition has decided to bow out of that job

The “Good Morning America” co-anchor and host of “This Week” said that he would not moderate ABC’s GOP debate, which is scheduled to take place in February in New Hampshire. Republican Sen. Rand Paul said Thursday that Stephanopoulos should be prohibited from moderating any debates during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“I won’t moderate that debate,” Stephanopoulos said. “I think I’ve shown that I can moderate debates fairly. That said, I know there have been questions made about moderating debates this year. I want to be sure I don’t deprive viewers of a good debate.”

He hasn’t, of course also bowed out of ABC’s Presidential campaign coverage, but that may not be necessary. It’s not as though people don’t recognize George from his previous entanglements with the Clintons, but it’s nice to have a refresher course. And George himself should be worried that his finances and giving are being closely watched. If anything, he could respond by being more critical, not less, of the Hillary Clinton campaign.

I mean, if he’s smart. He wasn’t smart enough to disclose his donations, or smart enough to remember that it was actually $75,000 and not $50,000 that he donated, so I’m not sure we can fully count on him taking advantage of this opportunity.
