MSNBC: Jim Crow TV

What were you expecting?

We refer here to that dustup last week over an official MSNBC pre-Super Bowl tweet about a Cheerios commercial that featured a bi-racial family.

The tweet read:

Maybe the rightwing will hate it, but everyone else will go awww: the adorable new #Cheerios ad w/ biracial family,

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus picked up the phone and protested directly to MSNBC president Phil Griffin. Griffin apologized, the tweet was deleted and the employee fired.

Nothing to see here, folks, move on.

Not so fast.

Again, what were you expecting? What else could possibly make some MSNBC employee post such an incredibly racist slur? How about the reality — voluminously documented over two centuries — that the American Left is and always has been a racist sewer? Why else would an employee of this network that notoriously advertises its addiction to Jim Crow — judging by skin color — think he could write such garbage and get kudos from the boss?

Meet MSNBC. Better described as Jim Crow TV.

The network that can be counted on to play the race card… over and over and over and over again. The 21st century media representative of the political party that has — on the record, mind you — spent the last 200-plus years supporting slavery, segregation, lynching, the Ku Klux Klan, racial quotas, black liberation, and that modern day successor to Jim Crow known as “multiculturalism” or “diversity” — all of them based on judging others by skin color.

A sampling. Sampling defined here as the equivalent of dipping a tea spoon in the ocean and coming up with water.

Chris Matthews.

Matthews has appallingly carved out a role for himself as the network’s Grand Kleagle, the cross-burner-in chief whose obsession with race is seemingly endless.

Take this statement:

“I’m speaking now for all white people,” he said, “but especially for [those] who have had to try to change the last 50 or 60 years. And they, a lot of them have really tried to change and I’m sorry for this stuff. That’s all I’m saying.”

This gem came in the aftermath of the George Zimmerman verdict, Zimmerman a Hispanic American who mysteriously morphed into a “White Hispanic” during his trial.

Now notice this amusing twist in Matthews’ puffery.

“….but especially for [those] who have had to try to change the last 50 or 60 years.”

Change? Change from what?

But, of course, that would be change from a world specifically and enthusiastically promoted by Mr. Matthews’ own political party, which has always depended on racism to fuel its progressive political objectives.

But has there been change?

In fact, whether resisting the end of slavery, opposing the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the Constitution (which successively ended slavery, provided due process and voting rights to black Americans) or, these days, opposing a color-blind society where Americans are judged not by skin color but by, to borrow from Martin Luther King, the content of their character, liberalism has been in the forefront of demanding a racialized society.

And in the world of media, MSNBC has been a champion of this distinctly un-American worldview.

Whether one talks current or past hosts and stars at the network, from Al Sharpton to Matthews toTouré to Melissa Harris-Perry to the now unlamented and disappeared Martin Bashir, listening to these people and others on the network is like eavesdropping on a Klan revival. Where the ideal of a Jim Crow society — a society where everyone is judged by race — is the gold standard.

Matthews wants to apologize for whites.

Harris-Perry mocks Mitt Romney for having an adopted black grandchild.

Al Sharpton is on audio tape scorning former New York Mayor David Dinkins as a “n….”

Bashir was urging an old-fashioned slave punishment be applied to former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Touré, as reported here in The Daily Caller, founded a newspaper in college that “only solicited funds from blacks.” Wrote the DC:

Touré’s flagship publication, The Fire This Time, lavished praise on famous anti-Semites, black supremacists, and conspiracy theorists whom Touré helped bring to campus. Before he became an intense-but-sardonic TV personality, Touré also decried “the suffocating white community” and defended a nationally famous fake hate crime.

In an interview with The Daily Caller, Touré described the newspaper as “an important black voice on campus.”

Question. What is the difference between Touré’s paper and this one — a newspaper that “was the newspaper of the white supremacist Citizens’ Council of Mississippi between October 1955 and September 1961. It was intended to spread a pro-segregationist message throughout the southern states with the hope that white people would be outraged that their children had to share classrooms with African-Americans and would organize to resist racial desegregation and restore white supremacist rule.”

Answer: There is no difference. Both Touré’s college paper and the paper published by the Citizens Council were devoted to what is today quaintly called “identity politics” — dividing by race. The staple of Jim Crow politics. Both were outgrowths of progressive politics and the racial pandering that is part and parcel of the American Left throughout American history.

Brent Bozell’s Media Research Center has released a hard copy of its 26th Annual Awards For The Year’s Worst Reporting, featuring “The Best Notable Quotables 2013.” (Full disclosure, I was one of the 42 judges.) The very first award was “The Ku Klux Con Job Award for Smearing Conservatives with Phony Racism Charges.”

The winner and the first runner up for the Ku Klux award were, shocker, the same guy: MSNBC’s Matthews.

Matthews won first place for this gem, said during an interview with author Christopher Parker in March of last year:

“What does your study tell you about the nature of the racial piece here of the Tea Party? …Is it sort of a resumption of the Old South, of the way things were before the Civil War, for example? Is it like that old and dreamy nostalgia you get in the old movies, Gone With the Wind? Is it that kind of America they want to bring back or what? When there were no gays, where blacks were slaves, Mexicans were in Mexico? I mean, is this what they want?”

Matthews captured the first runners-up spot with this next sparkler, which he delivered on his own as a guest on MSNBC’s PoliticsNation — the latter show hosted by the newtork’s own version of a Grand Kleagle of Racial Politics — Al Sharpton.

“The problem is there are people in this country — maybe 10%, I don’t know what the number, maybe 20% on a bad day — who want this President to have an asterisk next to his name in the history books, that he really wasn’t President…They can’t stand the idea that he is President, and a piece of it is racism. Not that somebody in one racial group doesn’t like somebody in another racial group. So what? It is the sense that the white race must rule. That’s what racism is. And they can’t stand the idea that a man who is not white is President.”

What Matthews is doing here is playing racial politics, precisely what the originators of Jim Crow did to push their progressive agendas.

As we have discussed before in this space, there is nothing new here.

Example of how the game works?

The other day, Janet Yellen was sworn in as the new chairman of the Federal Reserve. One can search high and low, and in all the stories about Yellen’s ascendance as chairman there is not a peep about the creation of the Fed itself.

The Federal Reserve was created primarily by two men — President Woodrow Wilson and Virginia Congressman Carter Glass, then the chairman of the House Banking and Currency Committee. Both men were progressive Democrats — and dyed in the wool segregationists. Suffice to say, in today’s world no one out there, whatever their opinion of the Fed, pauses to note that its creation is the direct result of the link between Jim Crow politics and the progressive agenda. Glass, among other things, was responsible for ensuring that the re-written Virginia Constitution of 1902 stripped blacks of their right to vote and segregated the state’s school system. Wilson, notoriously, segregated the federal government and premiered The Birth of a Nation, the film lionizing the Ku Klux Klan, in the White House.

So too was Social Security created and the federal school lunch programs created as a direct result of Jim Crow politics.

One could go on. But to the point: the progressive agenda for Big Government is tied tight to Jim Crow politics. And always has been.

The fact that MSNBC had an employee send out such an offensive racial tweet is because the network itself is the torch bearer for Jim Crow politics. Everything in Jim Crow politics…everything…is seen through a racial prism. The network marinates in race.

The bad news?

As despicable as this has been in American history past, one has only to watch Matthews and others on the network to understand that dividing the country by race to promote the progressive agenda is not a relic of the past — but a harbinger of how progressives, and importantly progressive media like MSNBC, see the future. Over at Mediate, as seen here, the perpetually race card playing Tommy Christopher has spent his time counting up every black face that has appeared this last Monday on CNN, Fox, and MSNBC. Under the headline…really, no kidding….that reads:

Here Are All of the Black People on CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC

Does one laugh or cry at such nonsense? Down there in Washington, D.C., ex-mayor and current Councilman Marion Barry two years ago pulled the same kind of stunt as Christopher. Except in Barry’s case the count was how many Asian shopkeepers there were in Washington. Barry’s answer? This, as reported in Politico:

“We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops,” Barry said on Tuesday night, according to video posted by WRC-TV/NBC4. “They ought to go. I’m going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”

So the left-leaning Mr. Christopher counts black faces, and for the left-leaning Mr. Barry the important count is Asian faces. Unfortunately neither seems to know how to see human faces. Doubtless both men have a future at MSNBC.

The only difference now is that instead of abandoning Jim Crow politics the push is on to enlarge and expand the game targeting not only blacks but Latinos. To deliberately create an American future in which the vision of the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal, and the dream of Martin Luther King that America must be a land where all are judged not by the color of their skin but the content of their character — is defeated. Defeated by an eternal politics of racism.

The politics of Jim Crow.
