Marie Harf’s Meteoric Rise of Mediocrity

Last April, NRO’s Mario Loyola called upon President Obama to fire Acting State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf:

Harf is a political campaign hack who has no business carrying a diplomatic passport or speaking for the State Department or this administration. Not even Obama deserves to be so poorly served.

Not only has Harf not been fired, but she will have a new job on June 1st. Starting Monday, Harf will serve as Secretary of State John Kerry’s Senior Communications Advisor.

Now one could make the argument that this is a demotion. The dynamic duo of Harf and Jen Psaki made State Department briefing must see TV for all the wrong reasons. Yet in the eyes of the Obama Administration this made Psaki the perfect White House Communications Director, a position which she commenced fittingly enough on April 1st. We might see a great deal less of Psaki but her imprint in the Obama White House is very much present.

The same will be true for Harf. Indeed, a good part of her job will be the ongoing nuclear negotiations between the Obama Administration and Iran. This is the same woman who a mere seven weeks ago dismissed the op-ed of former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and George Schultz on the nuclear framework with Iran as a bunch of “big words”.

President Obama and John Kerry know what they are getting with Marie Harf and it is what they want from her. How else can one explain Marie Harf’s meteoric rise of mediocrity? They are getting exactly what they deserve. Unfortunately, so are we.
