With the Trump campaign in free fall something had to give and today it was Corey Lewandowski who walked the plank.
Had Lewandowski worked for any other campaign, he would have been consigned to the ash heap of history the moment he grabbed Michelle Fields’ arm. But Trump was winning so he didn’t care. To paraphrase Trump, Lewandowski could have shot people on Fifth Avenue and not lost his job. But now that Trump is losing to Hillary in the polls there has to be someone to blame and evidently Lewandowski was no match for Paul Manafort.
So where does he go from here? There will be probably be a book. Maybe a Fox News show. Perhaps Lewandowski will pursue something more suited to his talents like the WWE, UFC or the NHL.
Honestly, I don’t really care all that much. The fact that a thug like Corey Lewandowski played a major role in a presidential campaign tells you a lot about Donald Trump’s character or lack thereof.
UPDATE: It now appears that Trump’s daughter Ivanka was instrumental in Lewandowski’s ouster amid reported tensions between him and Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner (whom Lewandowski had planned to plant stories about). Ivanka essentially gave her father an ultimatum and blood proved thicker than water. Her displeasure with Lewandowski evidently dates back to the Fields incident. Had Trump listened to his daughter’s advice three months ago, the Trump campaign might not be in such a sorry state of affairs. For that, Trump only has himself to blame.
