Joe Scarborough Fibs to Megyn Kelly
by

Joe Scarborough of MSNBC’s Morning Joe has a book out. So he’s on the book trail, which last night, amazingly enough, included a stop with Fox’s Megyn Kelly.

His performance was astounding.

Why astounding? Megyn grills ole Joe on the “perception” among conservatives that he is a “faux conservative” and a “RINO” because, among other things, he said of CPAC that it was filled with people who had “hate and resentment [and were] pushing talk radio” and that “you don’t get along with our own Hannity.”

To which — really, no kidding — Joe responds: “I love Sean Hannity. I love Rush…Rush and I get along well.”

What amazes here is Scarborough’s ability to play Baghdad Bob — to simply go on Megyn Kelly’s show and pretend the things he is well on record as saying simply never happened. As here when he went after Rush Limbaugh, Fox and talk radio. The Huffington Post headlined its report on Joe this way:

Joe Scarborough: Fox News, Rush Limbaugh Have Not Been Good For GOP

Or this story, as HuffPo headlined and reported:

Joe Scarborough: Conservative Media Is ‘Destroying’ Republican Party

“Do you think any of these people in talk radio, if they’re punched in the face by a Republican nominee, do you think they would push back?” Scarborough said. “No, they’re cowards, they’re bullies. Punch them in the face and they’ll back off.”…

He said that conservative media personalities would only lead the GOP to a “permanent minority.” Scarborough continued, “Who are they to say anything about what the future of this party and of this movement is? They’re making tens of millions of dollars. They’re getting rich and they’re not really hurting this country because they’re irrelevant… but they are destroying the Republican party everyday.”

There’s more, of course.

“I love Sean Hannity” Scarborough says last night, apparently hoping no one recalls that he bizarrely accused Hannity of saying Trayvon Martin “had it coming” and, worse, said Hannity’s focus on the Martin case — which the entire country was focused on — was to “gin up his ratings” — a charge that was both flatly false not to mention a play of the race card.

One could go on here — and on and on. (Over here is a story in which Joe suggests that Mark Levin is “jealous” of him.)

In fact? Forget all the personalities here. What Joe is about, just as Megyn Kelly suggested last night, is in fact being a “faux conservative.” Last night he was pushing his new book, but the argument is the same. Incredibly, this stellar representative of the GOP Establishment was insisting he was opposing…the GOP Establishment.

Suffice to say there sat Joe last night, looking Megyn Kelly and all of the Fox audience straight in the eye and pretending all those things he has said about Fox, talk radio and its various conservative hosts were never said. Poof! Gone down the memory hole! Amusingly, Megyn noted that he had an audience for Morning Joe that amounted to four people — OK, maybe five.

An amazing performance. And other than saying the name of his host — “Megyn” — there wasn’t a word of truth to it.
