Under the presidency of self-described Catholic Joe Biden, Catholic individuals and organizations were ruthlessly targeted, prosecuted, and persecuted for their devotion to Catholic truth. Whether it was forcing LGBT propaganda and rainbow standards down the whole world’s throats, raiding, arresting, and imprisoning pro-life Catholics, infiltrating and spying on Catholic parishes, or allowing activists to deface and destroy Catholic churches across the country with impunity, the Biden regime took a punitive approach to the faithful practice of Catholicism. Under President Donald Trump and the Republican trifecta, Catholic organizations are once again under the microscope — but for the right reasons, this time.
Many — too many! — Catholic bishops have promulgated this warped understanding of the Church’s teachings.
The U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security and Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability announced last week that they will be investigating over 200 nongovernment organizations (NGOs) for their role in “providing services or support to inadmissible aliens during the Biden-Harris administration’s historic border crisis.” Among those NGOs are the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and Catholic Charities USA, which are being investigated for using taxpayer dollars to facilitate the invasion of the U.S. by millions of illegal aliens.
The American Spectator has previously chronicled how the USCCB was handed a consequential $635 million for immigration “services” under the Biden regime, while Catholic Charities was given an astounding $1.7 billion. The immigration “services” carried out by the NGOs included meeting illegal immigrants at the border after they were “paroled” into the U.S. by Biden, shuttling them further into the heartland, and providing them with shelter, information, networks, and other resources. Appallingly, much of the work centered on immigrant children — many of whom have been “misplaced,” suspected to have been sex trafficked — was performed by Catholic NGOs.
“To respond to unprecedented surges of illegal immigrants between January 20, 2021, and January 20, 2025, the federal government outsourced a much greater share of its migrant response to NGOs, increasing NGO revenues while placing the burden of the Biden Administration’s policies on American taxpayers,” wrote Homeland Security Committee chairman Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.) and Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability chairman Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-Okla.) in a letter to the NGOs being probed.
They observed, “The Biden Administration’s reliance on NGOs therefore created a pull factor by signaling to those who arrived illegally or without proper documentation that they could expect such assistance, all expensed to American taxpayers, once they arrived in the United States.”
“Meanwhile, these same NGOs saw their annual revenues rise significantly. For example, it was reported that three prominent NGOs that assisted illegal aliens made a combined $597 million in revenue in 2019, while in 2022 those NGOs enjoyed a combined revenue of $2 billion,” Green and Brecheen continued. “Further, the Committee is concerned that some of these NGOs may currently be actively advising and training illegal aliens on strategies to avoid cooperation with immigration officials.”
Massive sums of government money are, no doubt, a chief motivation for Catholic organizations to quietly assist in the invasion of the U.S. by hordes of illegal immigrants, many of whom (erroneously) claim asylum upon breaking the first American laws they encounter. But I wonder if the subversion and perversion of the Catholic Church’s age-old teachings on immigration, national sovereignty, and the common good might be the more dangerous motivation.
Catholics Believe in the Value of Nations
Many — too many! — Catholic bishops have promulgated this warped understanding of the Church’s teachings. While the Church demands that strangers and sojourners be treated with dignity and respect, it also requires that the strangers and sojourners obey the laws of the nation that welcomes them — or which they hope will welcome them. The Catholic Church does not seek the erasure of nations, nor some Masonic, French-revolutionary, communistic ideal of a fraternity of man.
In fact, the Church expressly abhors such a concept, unless it is the fraternity we hope to find in Heaven, where all become one in Christ. Instead, the Church has long lauded the unique identities and cultures cultivated by individual nations, just as the Church appreciates the unique personalities, talents, and ambitions God has given to individual persons.
Yet some of America’s most prominent Catholic leaders lay an undue emphasis on the “respect and dignity” due to immigrants, while divorcing that imperative from love for one’s own nation, allowing it to grow and swell like a bloated cancer until it becomes the sole imperative, overriding all other moral responsibilities one owes to one’s nation, one’s community, one’s neighbors, even one’s family.
This is not Catholic teaching. At no point has the Church ever stipulated that one must abandon one’s homeland to tens of millions of ravenous, entitled, lawless insurgents who have no intention of assimilating, of learning to love the culture of the nation that welcomed them, of accepting their new home as their real home. This is not Catholic teaching, it is poison, and it is coursing through the veins of American Catholic elites and demagogues today.
