A couple of days ago, I posed two questions to Jeff Lord in light of Donald Trump’s criticism of Pamela Geller.
Jeff, of course, had written a piece earlier this week concerning the attempted terrorist attack in Garland, Texas and defended Geller’s freedom of speech to organize a Draw Muhammad art exhibit.
Given that Jeff has written a number of articles on these pages in praise of The Donald, I was curious as to what he thought of Trump blasting Geller. To be precise, I asked, “First, is Donald Trump’s criticism of Geller unwarranted? Second, is Donald Trump wrong for not standing up for free speech?”
Today, I got my answer:
Pam Geller, whose American Freedom Defense Initiative organized the Muhammad Art Exhibit and Cartoon Contest that sparked an armed assault by two self-appointed jihadis in Garland, Texas, has come under a withering assault for her actions. From Donald Trump to a crew at Fox that includes Bill O’Reilly, Laura Ingraham, Greta Van Susteren, Martha McCallum, Alan Colmes, ex-Bush aide and Fox contributor Brad Blakeman as well as liberal radio host Richard Fowler and doubtless more, Geller has been subjected to a firestorm of criticism.
I respectfully dissent.
While I would have liked to see Jeff elaborate on his criticism of Trump a little more (much of the article’s focus was on O’Reilly), I am glad to see that Jeff make it clear that he parts company with Trump on one important matter. You could say that freedom of speech trumps Trump.
