If you’re looking for a reason why the Democrats’ abject insanity isn’t waning, look to their donors.
A Politico piece earlier this week explained everything that’s happened since the election…
When Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine greet the very top fundraisers and donors to their failed campaign at New York’s Plaza Hotel on Thursday evening, many of them will have one question in mind: Where’s the autopsy?
The call for a deep and detailed accounting of how Clinton lost a race that she and her donors were absolutely certain she’d win didn’t begin immediately after the election — there was too much shock over her defeat by Donald Trump, and overwhelming grief. Her initial conference call with top backers, which came just days after the outcome, focused primarily on FBI Director Jim Comey’s late campaign-season intervention.
But in the weeks since, the wealthy Democrats who helped pump over $1 billion into Clinton’s losing effort have been urging their local finance staffers, state party officials, and campaign aides to provide a more thorough explanation of what went wrong. With no dispassionate, centralized analysis of how Clinton failed so spectacularly, they insist, how can they be expected to keep contributing to the party?
And a little bit of juice…
“A lot of the bundlers and donors still are in shock and disbelief by what happened. They’re looking for some introspection and analysis about what really happened, what worked and what didn’t,” said Ken Martin, chairman of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and a top campaign bundler himself. “It may take some time to do that, but people are still just scratching their heads.”
Or, in the words of a Midwestern fundraiser who’s kept in touch with fellow donors, “A lot of people are saying, ‘I’m not putting another f—king dime in until someone tells me what just happened.’”
If you’ve had enough of this business of The Russians! as the Democrats’ excuse for Hillary’s loss, which is patent nonsense — as Andrew McCarthy pointed out earlier this week at National Review, there is no plausible scenario in which The Russians! could have actually “hacked” the American presidential election in any meaningful way — the above is all you need to know.
Recognize this: The Democrat party is not, and has not been for a long time, a party of people who have interest in, or ability for, the creation of wealth. With a relatively small number of exceptions, Democrats with money either inherited it or earned it through some form of government redistribution — participation in regulatory schemes, litigation, government contracting or some other form of paperwork large government imposes on what we would call the productive class. Outside of perhaps the tech field or the arts, what you don’t find is a lot of self-made millionaires who got rich purveying a product or service people choose from pure personal preference hanging around the Democratic Party.
So when their donors bankroll a Hillary Clinton, it’s serious business. Once in a blue moon it’s because they’re true believers and think a new socialist utopia is just an election away, but most of the time, that money is chasing the gravy train — without political power to pull it, those wheels stop turning.
This doesn’t even account for the hundreds of millions of dollars funneled to the Clintons through the Clinton Foundation (from some of the world’s worst people, no less), which was little more than a bank vault in which to store prepayments on promised political favors from a future Clinton administration.
And it simply isn’t good enough for these people to hear that average Americans in places they’ll never travel to are sick of trannies in ladies’ rooms, re-education camps for Christian wedding vendors, the EPA regulating fish-ponds, Obamacare and DeRay McKesson. No, no – it’s not in the equation to lose the presidency. Someone has to be at FAULT.
And the fingers are now pointing at the campaign people who produced Hillary’s loss — campaign people who were paid princely sums out of the $1 billion plus those donors poured into her till. Questions are being asked and blame is being readied. Pressure is building.
Jennifer Palmieri, the clownish campaign spokeswoman now more famous for her whiny performance in a shouting match with Kellyanne Conway at Harvard after the election than anything she did during the campaign cycle, isn’t interested in admitting it was malpractice not to send Hillary to Wisconsin to campaign or that Hillary’s “basket of deplorables” speech alienated millions of people who otherwise might have considered a Democratic vote. Admissions such as those would entail recognition that she, as is the team with whom she worked, is a hack and a sycophant promoted far beyond her ability.
So it’s The Russians! who are responsible. And it’s up to the Electors and the 75,000-plus ginned-up email demands to each (including death threats in some cases) of the Republican ones that they become faithless and overturn the results of the election.
It’s whatever it takes to keep the focus off the arrogant, indolent and transparently dishonest campaign Palmieri, Robby Mook, and the rest of the DNC’s Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight put the country through in 2016. There won’t be the Democratic autopsy the donors want, because the people who’d perform it are the ones who killed the patient in the first place.
For the rest of us, none of this represents a particular problem. Nothing would serve America better than for these people to live in the political wilderness for a long, long time. Perhaps The Russians! would be so kind as to offer a lease of tundra in remote Siberia for this purpose?
