Broder Bleats

Get used to a lot more of this soon, battling with “Republicans face civil war” headlines for space. Über-establishment writer David Broder of the Washington Post has awakened, somewhat belatedly, to the wonders of bipartisanship with a column that is difficult to read without scorn for the man, and his headline writers.

WaPo‘s front page on-line teases it as “When Country Came First”, and its print title is the very similar “When Country Came First for Politicians”. As you might expect, as stage props he trots out and gets dewy-eyed about Bob Dole and Gerald Ford. Men you could work with!

In this treacly bit of agitprop Broder cites approvingly President “I won” Obama’s remarks to the New York Times Magazine that maybe after they pick up some seats Republicans will be more willing to be responsible and work with him in a bipartisan fashion.

This is the same champion of doing whatever’s necessary to bring the other side on board who not only sneered at the concept with his “I won” business, but dispatched Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to write left-wing wish-list bills that often could not even get the support of the ladies from Maine. Oooh, those partisan Republicans. The same “I won” fella who campaigns as demonizer-in-chief and otherwise has never known bipartisanship in his adult life as a ‘community organizer’, Democrat in the Illinois legislature and Reid-run U.S. Senate, with two years as a hyper-partisan president with massive Democrat majorities that he aggressively sought to exploit.

Broder and Obama and the establishment press belong together and deserve each other.
