Reflecting concerns among some of their rank and file members, Democrats have abandoned the idea of using the “deem and pass” strategy, or “Slaughter Solution,” to pass the Senate health care bill without actually voting on it, the Hill reports.
Instead, Democrats will have to vote separately on the Senate bill itself.
We can assume that Speaker Nancy Pelosi wouldn’t have abandoned the idea unless using it would have cost more votes than it picked up.
