Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said Friday that he would sign a pro-life bill that, among other things, defunds Planned Parenthood in the state. He could sign it into law as soon as today. Planned Parenthood plans to sue, saying the decision will cost women access to health care and cost Indiana $4 million in Medicaid funds. Daniels replies that there would still be an easy way to qualify for state money: Stop performing abortions.
“Any of those organizations can continue to receive taxpayer dollars if they separate their abortion activities and maybe that’s what they’ll decide to do,” Daniels told local reporters. This bill was considered a test of Daniels’ commitment to his pro-life position after his “truce” comments. Daniels is weighing a 2012 presidential bid.
