As part of the budget deal, the Senate was required to hold a separate vote on defunding the Affordable Care Act and Planned Parenthood. The first failed 47-53, on a straight party-line vote. The second failed 42-58, with every Democrat — including self-described pro-lifers Bob Casey and Ben Nelson — and five Republicans voting to maintain Planned Parenthood’s federal funding. The five Republicans were Scott Brown, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Lisa Murkowski, and Mark Kirk.
