A follow-on thought to my article today:
The president’s Ramadan statement notes that through their work “millions of Muslim Americans enrich our nation each day.” Given that there are fewer than 3 million Muslims in America, and many of them children, Obama’s exaggeration is just the latest example of his deep desire to boost Muslim self-esteem.
Conspicuously absent is any corresponding appreciation of the contribution of America’s six million Jews in the White House’s most recent statement at the start of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. But then Muslims, currently around 20 percent of the world’s population, have won a grand total of about 8 Nobel Prizes, while Jews, currently less than one quarter of one percent of the world’s population have won about 170, so maybe the Muslims really do need a cheerleader.
After all, Barack Obama would know better than most what it feels like to be feted for accomplishments not actually accomplished.
