We Are Not as Nice as You

by

Sometime back, the adults (i.e., our Archbishop) thought that our local church needed reining in. It called itself a “community,” not a church. It featured a cross, not a crucifix. A cross with no One on it. There were some who thought that the Deus was perhaps a little too absconditus, but they were told to chill. We wanted the church to be welcoming to tony people of other faiths, you see.

Well, the Archbishop weighed in, as I say, and sent a rather no-nonsense priest to the parish. He seemed a little perturbed by the cross, and the explanations he was given did nothing to mollify him. “We are not as nice as you,” he said.

That should be the motto of TAS. There are other journals of the right, to be sure. Some had a rollicking past, and are now much tamer. Most seem to worry terribly that they might say something to which their friends on the Left will object. That’s not The American Spectator. We are not as nice as you.

I mention this to urge you to consider supporting the magazine. There are a good many scandals out there, scandals that beg for a reporter who does more than surf the Internet, scandals that require a journal with fire in its belly.

Oh yes, there are other journals. But we are not so nice as them.
