At CFIF, I explain why an important new report by The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper makes it imperative that no vote be held on the nomination of Chuck Hagel as Defense Secretary until Hagel’s papers, housed at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, are made public. Short version: These papers will be public anyway in about two years. They aren’t intended to be secret, so senators should see them now.
This is clearly cause for Harry Reid to delay the vote — and, if he won’t, then for Republicans and any senators with any intellectual integrity at all to support continuation, at least for now, of a filibuster.
