I was to have attended one of two sold out shows Bill Cosby was scheduled to perform at the Wilbur Theatre this evening. Of course, I had been planning to write a piece about the show and the furor against it.
However, Cosby abruptly cancelled both performances this morning due to inclement weather. Boston has been deluged with snow over the past couple of weeks with more expected tonight through early Tuesday morning.
But Cosby’s shows were expected to greeted by hundreds of protesters angry over the dozens of allegations of sexual assault against the legendary comedian. Bill Blumenreich, the owner of the Wilbur Theatre and a number of other theatres, had a contract with Cosby to do 9 shows. Cosby cancelled seven of them, but insisted on doing the Boston shows. As recently as yesterday, Cosby had said, “Hey, hey, hey!!! I’m far from finished.” While Cosby says he plans to return to Boston, Blumenreich said the other day, “I can’t wait for Sunday to be over. I’m done with it.”
