Meanwhile while the press was focused on money and Rudy and Romney were going at it on taxes McCain gave two online interviews here and here. In the first he does some damage control explaining his initial remarks about Rush Limbaugh and the “phony soldier” story(which I find impossible to take seriously) and makes a pitch for the social conservative vote, defending his comments on the country’s Judeo Christian tradition and reminding voters of his longtime pro-life voting record. In the latter, he contends he “has a good relationship with the evangelical community” and talks at length about his views on Iraq and his national security credentials. He also says that at the end of the day “we should be loyal Republicans to the extent we support the nominee of our party.”
He may not have the most money but he’s figured out the new (and free) media and is going to be a force in New Hampshire where his spending record and anti-earmark crusade will be popular.
