Scenes From Back Bay
by

I ventured to Back Bay for the first time since Boston Marathon bombings.

Much of Boylston Street and Copley Square are still cordoned off. Everything that is on the ground remains in its place as if it were frozen in time. The only people on Boylston Street are in white suits combing through the area. It was a very strange sight. No word as to when the area will be re-opened to the public.

There are flowers, t-shirts, teddy bears and handwritten notes situated in front of the barricades on either end of Boylston Street. When I was standing in front of the barricade near the Hynes Convention Center, a woman asked me if I wanted to write a note. Here is what I wrote:

We will get through this. I may not have been born here but Boston you’re my home.

The surviving bomber is in custody and unable to harm anyone ever again. There is no question people feel far better than they did 24 hours ago. The renewed appreciation for military, police, firefighters and EMS personnel is also gratifying. But there were many people who were in tears over what was in front of them. They will be hurting over what happened for a long time to come.

The 2014 Boston Marathon cannot come soon enough.
