Any deal that delays the spending cuts under sequestration
(without replacing them with other cuts) should be anathema. If
this deal re-raises spending (on anything other than defense), it
should be an absolute non-starter.
Now, if it delays sequestration, but replaces it with other,
specified spending cuts instead of an across-the-board bludgeon,
then that is actually BETTER policy than sequestration.
But this is worth noting: Boehner’s Plan B would have kept
sequestration intact, but would have protected tax cuts for
everybody up to a million dollars of income. Plan B was better than
this deal, regardless. This game hasn’t been played well by the
political right.
We await the final details of this thing. But if this raises
taxes on small businesses whose proprietors earn (meaning the
businesses earn, which means the money doesn’t actually end up as
personal earnings) as little as $450,000, this might not be a deal
worth accepting.
Gallup reports that Obama’s disapproval ratings are up a
whopping five points in just the last week. If no deal is reached,
he’ll get plenty of blame, too, and the pressure will remain on
both sides after going over the “cliff” to come back and fix things
(including retroactively). In fact, Obama might LOSE leverage,
because when the economy goes bad, the president ends up getting
the blame in the long run. Obama knows this too. therefore, why
rush into a bad deal, when the leverage for a better deal might
improve after going over the cliff?
Of course, it would help if the GOP knew how to communicate. I
sure know people who can help them out.

Again, any deal that includes a penny of increased revenue [increase payments of taxes by taxpayers] is unnecessary and wasteful; since the problem is governmental excessive spending period. Cut/eliminate Interior, Energy, Education, HUD, foreign aid, food stamps, aid to dependent children, Fannie/Freddie etc as a start. Wait they can't do that, since it would be racist, homophobic, xenophobic and every other phobic to do thus, right? WTF, lets go over the cliff and have the economy implode, since it serves this country right for its collective stupidity of 11/6/12. Whether or not any deal is made, this country will be toast going forward. The taro-cars have been played. Get your cart and donkey ready for transportation. Enjoy your POTUS you under-thirty snotnosers, while you are using your college degrees for toilet paper and watching your labor union compadres laugh all the way to the bank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It can't be the spending. Obama hi'self declared he cut spending 1 trillion dollars in 2011. And besides it's 'Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans (tm) ' and two unfunded wars unfunded medical mandates and whatever other garbage we've been hearing.

Take your BS somewhere else! Ya boy is a GD liar besides being other things as well. Bush's tax cuts were received by EVERY TAXPAYER you lying SOS, but of course in your WELFARE DICTIONARY anyone who EARNS INCOME are the "wealtiest Americans" right [as opposed to your indigent governmental welfare recipients whose welfare is PAID FOR BY THE TAXPAYERS]. "two unfunded wars"? All wars are "unfunded" DA! Was WWII "unfunded"? What about the Korean War? What a DA your mother hatched! "medical mandates".....a drug benefit to Medicare recipients? WTF do you then call WELFARECARE that the domestic terrorists rammed down America's throat several years ago in political corrupt fashion? Lying SOS! GTH and stay there!!!!!

Raising taxes will create unemployment. How many of those who become unemployed voted for Obama and the Democrats? They will simply have gotten what they voted for.

The federal government has already gone over the spending cliff - to the tune of $16 trillion. Spending is the problem. Debt is the problem. Deficit is the problem. When Obama, Biden, Reid, and Pelosi say they want a "balanced" approach that includes "more revenue," they are reminding us that they want "more revenue" (higher taxes). And the only reason for higher taxes ("more revenue") is to support "more spending." We are already over the spending cliff. The solution is less spending and reduced cost of government. And "less spending" does not require "more revenue."

Obama is becoming more and more arrogant..his arrogant, condescending posture seems to say: "Hey, I won! You lost! So get over it! I'm going to do whatever I want to do so get out of my way.." Really, it's just too much!

Dec. 31st: Why does no one ever talk about slimming the welfare lines? Really, check out welfare and food stamps...weed out those who don't need them. Bill Clinton did it...there are too many freeloaders! Politicians keep going after seniors who have paid their dues and are receiving skimpy social security checks but they don't go after healthy people who are on welfare but are capable of working but don't want to work because they say they get more money from welfare...at least start trimming the fat!!!
