There are four House races in North Carolina that Democrats
held, but Republicans had reasonable hopes to take over. Former NFL
quarterback Heath Shuler will win in a district representing the
Western mountains; Larry Kissell will hang on in a district that
runs from Charlotte to Fayetteville (Fort Bragg); Mike McIntyre is
running ahead of Iraq War vet Ilario Pantano; and Bob
“Who Are You?” Etheridge is maintaining a narrow lead over Renee
Ellmers.
So the Republican takeover of the House probably will not be
helped by the Tar Heel State.
Update 10:42: Bizarro news from my former John
Locke Foundation colleague Rick Henderson, via Facebook:
The GOP will take charge of the North Carolina Senate for the
first time since 1898 and will win the state House. And Republican
Richard Burr obliterated Elaine Marshall in the US Senate race. Yet
every incumbent U.S. House Democrat — 8 of the 13 in the
delegation — won re-election. (Although the Etheridge-Ellmers race
is still not over yet, it appears).

Better check those numbers again, Mr. Chesser. I do believe Battering Bob Etheridge is officially unemployed. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Shuler, Kissel and McIntyre voted against ObamaCare the both times it came up for a vote, as they knew they would lose today if they did otherwise. They won't dare get in the way of repeal.
