Cao Cites Pro-Life Language, Promises from Obama For His Health Care Vote

Joseph Cao, the lone Republican to vote in favor of the health care bill, released a statement explaining his decision. In his statement, he emphasizes the adoption of the Stupak pro-life amendment, and also notes:

“Today, I obtained a commitment from President Obama that he and I will work together to address the critical health care issues of Louisiana including the FMAP crisis and community disaster loan forgiveness, as well as issues related to Charity and Methodist Hospitals.  And, I call on my constituents to support me as I work with him on these issues.

Enjoy that 30 pieces of silver, Cao.

What a complete tool. He should know by know that Obama can't be trusted.

KansasGirl| 11.8.09 @ 1:10AM

Cao, you gave up OUR freedom, for what? I'm so sick I can barely breathe.

Pete| 11.8.09 @ 1:37AM

KansasGirl, sorry you're sick, sounds like you need healthcare reform -- hang in there, it's coming. Thanks for your support!

I give this troll's attempt a B-.

It was well-conceived, but poorly executed. He didn't get the voice right. I didn't buy it at all.

Sweet.

This is the kind of vision I have come to expect from Republicans as a group.

They are perfectly willing to sell out the entire country for future generations to come for some candy from uncle Obamao to spread around the neighborhood & feel like they have really accomplished something.

Why?

Because in Washington DC it is not about the quality of legislation you are signing (most can't even be bothered to read it), but the quantity, swag (also known as other peoples money) and of course, the photo op.

I hope Mr. Cao and his friends enjoy their candy while it lasts.

I hope he has to explain to his grandchildren one day how he traded a bag of candy in exchange for a 3.25 trillion dollar Pelosi enema for the country.

Someone needs to take the SOMA away from the Republicans. This "big tent" Replicanism is helping to destroy the country as surely as the politically correct insanity caused the massacre at Ft Hood.

What will our country look like in 20 years?

Do the Republicans care? Do they care enough to give up the candy that is rotting thier teeth and making them fat?

I have an image of the poster boy for the fat, candy loving, toothless GOP, but the image of Mr. Cao is making that moldy old thing rapidly fainter.

Candy, enemas and SOMA.
And Pelosi's crazed look of a jackal on speed, too giddy to string together anything but halting non sequiturs with the thrill of the deal. That is the mental image this insane power grab leaves me with.

Sounds like a nobleman taking care of his own turf--forget any loyalties or principles. Do what has be done politically to get rid of him--Primary him when his time comes.

Richard Baker| 11.8.09 @ 9:59AM

At Rep. Boehner's questioning, I heard one of the House leadership, I believe it was George Miller from California, refuse to guarantee that the anti-abortion language would survive Conference with the Senate. So those folks who voted for this abomination based upon this language did this to protect themselves at home and further their patent dishonesty, to boot. These folks will eventually, due to their contempt for America, ignite a Revolution, make no mistake about that. Sort of like King George and his ministers did to Colonial America. Keep your powder dry, Armed America.

Oldefarte| 11.8.09 @ 10:12AM

The voters/taxpayers [and readers of this AS article] of Louisiana should DEFEAT this congressmen at his re-election!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ben| 11.8.09 @ 10:35AM

Coa is a sell out, and naive enough to believe Obama's promises, though he'll never be there long enough to see how wrong he was.

burt| 11.8.09 @ 11:19AM

Cao is a clown and got elected by accident in a huge Dem district. He won't be relected anyways !

Michael Dooley| 11.9.09 @ 7:13AM

Before Coa gets too reassured, remember that there is still the Senate and the conference. More than enough time for the Stupak pro-life amendment to mysteriously disappear.

rt| 11.9.09 @ 10:34AM

hey Cao its time to change to a DEM. We dont need RINOs like you around.
