Back in New York's 20th congressional district, David Freddoso
reports that the absentee ballots already in and waiting to
be counted lean Republican. That's the (relative) good news for
Republican Jim Tedisco. But the fact that this even has to come
down to the wire is not a very good sign and offers a reality
check as to how little anti-Obama anger exists at this moment in
competitive districts. I fully expect Republicans to win back
many conservative and Republican-leaning seats currently held by
Democrats in the next election. But we don't have any evidence
yet that 2010 is going to look anything like 1994.
UPDATE: Here's an unconfirmed
report that Scott Murphy's lead has dwindled to just 25
votes.
Mr. Antle, your name should be Eeyore James Antle, III. We lost
this district 68% to 32% just 4 months ago. I prefer to look on
the bright side.

Good grief, the election is year and a half away. Give it a rest
with the prognostication.

I concur with Ruth. This is a district that just reelected a
Democrat, in a state where the state level GOP organization has
been a bunch of incompetent boobs for years. Add to that a
campaign by Murphy that played down his Democratic credentials (I
can't tell you how many commercials I saw and heard that focused
exclusively on Murphy's family and ties to upstate NY) and called
Tedesco a creature of Albany (imagine a creature of Washington
that went for a swim in toxic waste), and the fact that it's too
close to call is cause for hope, not despair For Mr. Antle to act
as though the failure of Tedesco to dominate is indicative of
anything merely shows his ignorance of the facts on the ground.
