In a Washington Post column about conservatives'
inauguration blues, S.E. Cupp turns to an authoritative source:
J.P. Freire, the managing editor of the American Spectator,
hopes to rent a lake or beach house with some buddies. "You
can't get away from this" in town, he wrote. "It'll be in the
bars till 4 a.m. every night when you're trying to sleep, and
it'll flood the streets with traffic when you need to get
groceries."
The fact that Inauguration Day falls on the Tuesday after MLK
Day, creating a four-day weekend for Democratic celebrations,
might contribute to headaches in D.C. However, I don't think
most conservatives are really so disconsolate. There was a big
crowd Friday for Matt Vadum's monthly Taco
Night party at the National Press Club, most of
them conservative and all of them cheerful -- including the Bush
administration political appointees who were just a few
days from unemployment.
