The Obama Watch

The Worst of Obama 2011

Our columnist resumes his annual end-of-year tribute to the great orator.

Since I highlighted President Obama’s lowlights for both 2009 and 2010, why should 2011 be any different? There is, of course, plenty to write about and I shall only scratch the surface. If I have omitted anything, I have no doubt that readers will draw it to my attention. Rather than list examples one by one, I shall group them together in three categories — disagreeable, out of touch, and vain.

Disagreeable
In January, following the shooting of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, President Obama won high praise for a speech he delivered at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He was praised for this passage in particular:

But at a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized — at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who happen to think differently than we do — it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we’re talking with each other in a way that heals, not in a way that wounds.

Well, it’s a shame that President Obama has made little effort to follow his own advice this year. Three months after the Tucson speech, Obama delivered another speech at George Washington University concerning fiscal policy. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan was invited to sit in the front row. Although not mentioning his name, Obama blasted Ryan’s fiscal plan in a setting where he could not publicly defend himself:

The vision is less about reducing the deficit than it is about changing the basic social compact in America. Ronald Reagan’s own budget director said there’s nothing “serious” or “courageous” about this plan. There’s nothing serious about a plan that claims to reduce the deficit by spending a trillion dollars on tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires. And I don’t think there’s anything courageous about asking for sacrifice from those who can least afford it and don’t have any clout on Capitol Hill. That’s not a vision of America I know.

While it is true that David Stockman criticized the Ryan Plan, he also said Obama’s attempt to reduce the deficit entirely on the top 2% of the population wouldn’t work either. Yet President Obama managed to omit that small but crucial detail. But why let demagoguery be impeded by fact?

During the debt ceiling debate this summer, Obama told House Majority Leader Eric Cantor not to call his bluff, said he couldn’t guarantee that Social Security checks would be mailed out, and railed against tax breaks for purchase of corporate jets despite the fact they were in the Stimulus Bill that he signed into law. By October, Obama was telling Americans that the Republican fiscal plan consisted of “dirtier air, dirtier water, less people with health insurance.”

President Obama hardly confined his demagoguery to domestic matters. When Congress demanded to be consulted about American involvement in Libya, he questioned their patriotism. At the very same press conference where Obama ranted about corporate jets he also asserted that “no one should want to defend” Muammar Qaddafi and that Qaddafi had become a “cause célèbre” for some members of Congress. This from a man who said during the 2008 campaign he would never question the patriotism of others. It would seem that President Obama believes he is exempt from his own edicts. In other words, do as I say not as I do.

Out of Touch
President Obama has also been out of touch with the American people and in one instance was out of touch as to whether he was on American soil. During the APEC Summit last November, Obama spoke of meeting with world leaders “here in Asia.” Except he was in Hawaii at the time. You would think Obama would remember he was in the state in which he was born.

Then there times when he seemed to be trying out his best Jimmy Carter impersonation whether he was telling the nation to “eat its peas” or asserting that America had gone “soft” and had become “lazy.” All that was missing was the cardigan sweater.

Now in the case of the “soft” and “lazy” remarks, it could be said that Obama was commenting on America’s competitive edge and its pursuit of foreign investment rather than the diligence of Americans. Yet it is difficult to take Obama’s critique seriously when he made a point of postponing a decision on approving the Keystone XL Pipeline from Canada until after the 2012 election to appease environmentalists. Republicans have since forced Obama to make a decision about Keystone’s fate within 60 days as part of the payroll tax cut extension.

Vain
There were also times when President Obama could have used a touch of modesty. It might have spared him the embarrassment of talking through “God Save The Queen” at Buckingham Palace. But as long as Obama can tell his supporters with a straight face, “If you love me, you got to help me pass this bill,” pats himself on the back for doing more for Israel’s security than any other administration in history while claiming he’s accomplished more in the first two years of his Presidency than anyone “with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln,” then one can only conclude that modesty just isn’t in the man’s repertoire.

Hopefully at this time one year from now we will await someone else to be sworn in as President of the United States, if for no other reason than I won’t have to write out this damn list every year.

This one really blew my skirt up:
The United States should be better, he says. "This is a place where your hard work and responsibility's supposed to pay off," he says, striking a populist tone. He says that factory workers "on the floor" should be rewarded."

He has no idea.

WRTolkas| 12.28.11 @ 8:22AM

They are where I work. Everyone - Yes Everyone received profit sharing bonus every quarter.

Where I once worked only the managers and corporate officers received the bonuses. Engineers like me designed the product, people in the factory built the product, and the VP of HR received the bonus. Well that company is now long gone. I don't mean to write like a socialist; however the way the system works here is if the company is successful, everyone shares. If we are not then everyone feels the consequence. And we have no union.

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 2:47PM

"no union..." No wonder you made a profit.

Intelligent Design| 12.28.11 @ 7:49AM

Obama hasn't done anything right since he entered the White House. One of his more colossal failures has been his failure to prevent a nuclear Iran. Obama has been too busy helping the Muslim Brotherhood gain power in Egypt to pay attention to Iran. And too busy helping the Libyan rebels install a Koran-based, sharia compliant government. And to busy attacking Israel, and too busy waging war against American citizens, and too busy promoting illegal immigration, and too busy waging war on jobs ........

VonMisesJr| 12.28.11 @ 9:06AM

Obama is doing everything right if his mission is to destroy liberty, free markets and the Constitution of the United States. When his AG, Czars and Cabinet Secretaries actions coincide with his efforts to take away choice, redistribute income along Marxist dotrinal lines, and to defy the Constitution and the Courts; it is naive to contend that he does not have a clear plan.

The 64 trillion dollar question in 2012 stated clearly is "is the Obama plan the same plan as that of the American people?"

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 9:35AM

You're funny. Hatred of Obama is just not going to win.

VonMisesJr| 12.28.11 @ 10:24AM

Liberals hate individuals. Conservatives simply love their country.
Christians hate the sin, not the sinner. Unlike the prior eight years, you don't hear Conservatives and Christians spewing hate on the person as much as the policies. You have not seen conservatives routing for defeat as the liberals did in Iraq when Bush was POTUS, or making films about assassinations. That is a neurosis of the left.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 10:52PM

Are you kidding me? Whether it's a picture of Obama as Hitler or dissing him buying a Xmas present for his dog - the righties have been very hateful toward Barack the person. You must be delusional.

Truth to Power| 12.28.11 @ 11:01PM

VonMisesJr talks of individuals and all purpleguy can do it think of his Dear Leader.

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 2:48PM

You realize that you are responding to a 12 year old?

Tim Martin| 12.28.11 @ 12:38PM

Since when is the truth hate? In typical liberal thinking . . . if you disagree with me it's hate speech. I was born a Democrat, raised a Democrat, and work as a union member but I look at the facts (reality) and go from there. This guy is a disaster for working people.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 10:54PM

The worst disaster for working people was Ronald Reagan and his "Trickle down" crap. We got trickled down on all right, the 1% grew in income while the 99% lost out bigtime. Go do your own homework and see what happened to the middle class since Reagan.

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 2:51PM

Remember Carter? Remember 18% mortgage rates, 16% unemployment, 15% inflation rates? Remember turning off the lights at Christmas? Remember 440 days of Iranian hostage taking? Off course not, because Reagan changed all that. He ended the cold war to boot. Meanwhile you are still whining about him. Maybe because you are 12.

Occam's Tool| 12.28.11 @ 5:45PM

No, but voting Chicago Style, "early and often," like my daddy taught me, might, purp.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 10:55PM

that's a bit dated and lame, don't you think?

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 2:53PM

No, I know Chicago style politics. We had the precinct captain complain to my father that unless he got Daley 60 percent of the vote, he would lose his meat inspecting job. Now that is a bit lame isn't it? Get your head out of your butt and see what Chicago politics actually means.

old white guy| 12.30.11 @ 6:08AM

when did stating facts become hatred???

Dai Alanye | 12.28.11 @ 12:32PM

It's no surprise Obama has failed at being President, because he's failed at almost everything he's done. By luck and acting skill, and with the help of those who have an agenda in which he plays a role, he has usually failed upward. There's a revealing episode in Dreams From My Father. The book is largely fiction but I expect we can trust those parts that display him in unflattering fashion.

Grandma comes home shaken-up after she's been hustled by a bum at the bus stop. Grandpa could offer to drive her to work but he doesn't bother. And Barack could have said, "Don't worry, Gramma, I'll walk you to the bus stop." But he doesn't. He doesn't even show any regret when he writes about the incident years later. Instead he used it to show his grandmother to be a racist. She thereby joins a vast number of his associates whom he's found convenient to throw under the bus.

He failed as a grandson, and later failed as a son when he refused to go to his dying mother. He must have failed in college, otherwise his records wouldn't be state secrets. There must have been a whiff of failure or scandal connected with his birth, as well, or we wouldn't need to depend on photoshopped versions of his birth certificate.

He failed as editor and president of the Harvard Law Review, writing not one article for it. He failed completely at his first attempt to write a book, and only succeeded the second time with the help of a ghost writer, whether Bill Ayres or some anonymous editor at his publisher.

He failed in his first job as copy editor of a newsletter, having to leave it to become a community organizer, at which he also generally failed. He failed at his first run for office, winning the next only by managing to disqualify all competitors. His runs for state and federal Senator were facilitated by his backers uncovering scandals in the backgrounds of his opponents, otherwise he might well have failed at those.

He failed as a legislator not only by voting "present" in Illinois but by rarely if ever successfully pushing original legislation. But again he managed to fail upward.

He was successful in his run for President only due to severe mistakes on the part of John McCain, and once in office has failed again and again.

But one thing Obama doesn't fail at is misleading people who believe in simple solutions to difficult problems, accepting emotional slogans in lieu of workable policies. Yes, he's a success at fooling the foolish, no doubt of that. To date, the major accomplishment for which he stands a chance of being remembered by history is as living proof that the Peter Principle falls short of universal application.

Tim Martin| 12.28.11 @ 12:40PM

AMEN !

Kingofthenet| 12.28.11 @ 2:03PM

I wish my son would 'Fail' half as much as THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

Skippy| 12.28.11 @ 2:40PM

Keep it up.
He will.

Occam's Tool| 12.28.11 @ 5:46PM

Well, he's got you for a dad. That's a good start for failure, King.

Truth to Power| 12.28.11 @ 2:57PM

DA didn't say anything about wishing the big O would fail just that he does. DA had this really pegged though:

"But one thing Obama doesn't fail at is misleading people who believe in simple solutions to difficult problems, accepting emotional slogans in lieu of workable policies. Yes, he's a success at fooling the foolish, no doubt of that."

You have been an constant example of his ability to fool the simple minded.

Aces and Eights| 12.28.11 @ 3:20PM

Mr. KoftheN: If your son did fail "half as much as the President..." he would only be 5 trillion dollars in debt, not 10 trillion. And indebted with other people's money, not his own. What you wish for is irrational.

Joe Sahyan| 12.29.11 @ 5:53PM

Hypothetical for you: Some guy gets through med school, based on affirmative action, or because he knows where some bodies are buried, or whatever. It develops (God forbid) that you need brain-surgery. He opens you up, has no real clue what he's doing...and you die. But he's still "succeeded," right....Because, after all, he's a *BRAIN SURGEON*. Obama is a relatively skilled campaigner; that ain't the same as being even a decent President. On that score...he's opened the skull, and has no clue what to do next, save stick his hands in and poke around randomly.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 9:34AM

blah, blah, woofie ... in the meantime he's planning to give the Republicants a shellacking in November.

Bob Grant| 12.28.11 @ 10:03AM

IF Obama wins next year, it will only be because republicans snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and not because of his political acumen nor ability to govern.

He's been an utter failure on both counts, as cataloged by conservatives and fretted about by the mainstream media.

rhoetus| 12.28.11 @ 2:30PM

Yes, thanks to Bush41, Bush43, Dole and McCain. I hope we don't get stuck with Romney or Gingrich.

Stan Redmond| 12.28.11 @ 11:46AM

While not agreeing that Obama will shellac the republicans, republicans have a way of defeating themselves. Sadly, Obama will win 2012 and the destruction will continue. however the bright spot is the democrats will have their arses handed to them in the house, senate, and state offices like it's 2010.

Joe Sahyan| 12.29.11 @ 5:55PM

He's also "planning" to stop the oceans from rising, make the planet cool, make everybody (except the folks who actually *are* our allies) love us....And I'm "planning" to sign a $15 million a year contract to pitch in the majors next year. *That* isn't gonna happen, either. Recall Robert Burns: The best laid plans of mice and men (and whatever Obama is) gang aft agley.

russel| 12.28.11 @ 11:12AM

And too busy vacationing ( whoa , that's a good thing ) . Drudge reorts Zero and Slick Willie ' most admired ' . Just what is it going to take for voters to wake up . Absolutely stunning such an inept , dangerous boob could somehow be admired .

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 10:56PM

Yeah, all the REST of the people are wrong - only you are correct, is that it? uh-huh.

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 2:54PM

They are if they think like you.

Louis Jenkins| 12.28.11 @ 8:02AM

Fast and Furious? Not one mention of Holder, Obama's right hand man, who turns his back on voter rights (unless they're the proper color), who lies in front of congress and has 90 congressmen asking for his resignation. Not one mention of Solendra, not one mention of the mega vacations, not one mention of UN approval for war instead of congress, and so on. We have a president, nah, a dictator in the White House. No doubt Obama burst into tears when he heard that the Korean Dog Eater was dead. But cheer up Obama, there's a new one in his place. And younger too!

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 9:36AM

Feel Better - he's still President and destined to be again.

Bob Grant| 12.28.11 @ 10:20AM

Anyone NOT at the trough would be a complete fool to vote for him. This includes blacks, whites, browns, yellows, females, males, gays, straights, or any mixture.

The only way he wins is if a significant majority of the voting public is drawing a near living income from the government. And even those people might not think it's worth it to vote for him as they want to improve their lot in life.

White guilt will not put him over the top this time, my friend.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 10:58PM

And you think voting for Corporate Romney is going to help your lot in life? Since he appears headed for the nomination over the rest of the clowns, he's the nominee - Ann Coulter said it best "... we'll nominate Mitt Romney and lose" .

Bob Grant| 12.28.11 @ 11:46PM

I don't want Romney to 'help my lot in life', I want him to have minimal effect on my lot in life.

By the way, when obama officially bankrupts this country and will no longer be able to provide services to the restless natives, I hope you are protected from your like-minded brethren as they destroy everything around them.

Don't ask any of us on this site to protect your sorry ass!!......be a man and reap what you have sown.

Joe Sahyan| 12.29.11 @ 6:01PM

You've said it precisely rightly. Libs and other weaklings think the government is responsible for their "lot in life". (Because, you see, it *can't* be Purp's fault he's living in mommy's basement and can't get a job with two degrees in Lesbian Imagery in Pre-Colonial East African Art!) Conservatives know - and the US was founded on the notion - that *we* are responsible for our *own* "lot in life." P.J. O'Rourke said it well: There are two kinds of "rights." "Get outta here" rights and "Gimme" rights. We conseratives want the first; libs and other weaklings *need* the second...so they don't have to take real accountability; somebody else is always at fault. It's like with 2-year olds: Somebody *else* always did it.

Louis Jenkins| 12.28.11 @ 4:02PM

Wow Purp, he may very well be destined to be the president again, and again, and again. In fact, I bet he's setting up permanent residence as we speak, and will award his third eldest (no wait), his second eldest to be the supreme leader of the Socialist States of Amerika. Only trouble he (and 435 other folks) will have is with the US population, who will be upset to say the least. In fact, there will be a third revolution. Feel better? I'll sleep well tonight and rise early. The Obama FEMA trucks will not get a jump on me or mine. To be, rather than seem.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 10:59PM

1 more term is all he gets. that's in the Constitution - you don't want to follow the Constitution? REally?

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 2:55PM

Obama sees the constitution as a "living" document, so that can change if he chooses.

Joe Sahyan| 12.29.11 @ 6:04PM

Precisely, Wayne. Dear Reader and the libs have made it clear that the Constitution means only what they want it to. It'd be no stretch at all for this regime to decide that, if one reads every third word of the Constitution, backwards, with one eye closed, well, it *clearly* means that Dear Reader is perfectly entitled (that word the left loves so much) to declare himself President for Life, with the right to name his successor.

Stan Redmond| 12.30.11 @ 1:56PM

Or just ignored. (GM bailout ignoring contracts, czars, executive orders, Obamacare, ignoring 10th amendment etc etc etc...)

Chris| 12.28.11 @ 8:09AM

Obama is a PUNK! A black man who COULD NEVER live in any of the Chicago Housing Projects under the CHA. Those who did or still do would eat his lunch, and turn him into their Biatch . Obama is truely a Sissy and HE KNOWS IT TOO! Ankle Grabber & Chief O

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 9:37AM

Wow, psychologists would say you want him bad, to be his beeotch.

Bob Grant| 12.28.11 @ 10:06AM

Hey Purp,

How do those $180 Air Jordan Classics fit?

VonMisesJr| 12.28.11 @ 12:40PM

He bartered for them with government cheese. No taxes required in the Obama barter economy.

Ask the Greeks, they have it perfected. Two-thirds are on the government dole (German charity) and the other third lives in a cash economy to avoid the taxes. Great plan!

Bob Grant| 12.28.11 @ 1:22PM

I think you and your namesake have nailed it precisely.

I'm afraid this will all lead to what my mentor called a Road to Serfdom.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:02PM

Interesting you bring in the Germans - a country with Universal Healthcare, a country that changed it's laws to allow work sharing so no one lost their jobs in the downturn and the German economy is doing just fine. And, they have quite the bureacracy and regulatory system in place as well. Now can you imagine how your head would explode if any President proposed work - sharing? Do you know what it is even?

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 2:56PM

And a country that brought us Hitler and the NAZIs.

Ground Control| 12.28.11 @ 10:47AM

This is a pointless, indeed worthless, comment. You add nothing to the debate. You just spew at the mouth. You deserve no response. You are emptiness and vanity.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:03PM

Then why did you open your piehole?

Joe Sahyan| 12.29.11 @ 6:08PM

Those'd be the same psychiatrists (in the APA) who are currently considering the question whether pedophilia is "normative". The same ones who will release murderers, because they are "no longer a danger," putting us all at risk, but who recoil is horror at the notion that, should one of their "cured" patients kill again, *they* should lose their licenses forever. Risk *your* *LIFE*, well sure. Risk *my* *LICENSE*?! We can *never* be *that* certain the guy won't reoffend.
Yeah, psychiatrists would say...pretty bloody much anything.

rhoetus| 12.28.11 @ 2:32PM

Whatchit! Obie will hit you with his purse.

Timothy L. Pennell| 12.28.11 @ 8:43AM

He's a Narcissist, a Marxist, and a Communist. His entire life has been one big Immersion of Communism, Marxism, and Islam. He has surrounded himself with these elements, all of his life, as well as Unrepentant Domestic Terrorist, Black Racist haters of this Country, and Terrorist Group Collaborators, such as Khalid Rashidi.

"By any means necessary." That's always been the Lefts' Mantra. "The ends justify the means." Indeed. They have no problem filling their Gulags with "Political Prisoners". No Problem with "One man, one vote, ONE TIME". Murder becomes, just a tool in their hands. Something to be USED, for the Greater Good. Starvation in the Hinterlands, just means more food for THEIR PEOPLE, living in the Cities, where they're easier to control.

They believe that MARX is right, and that Lenin and Stalin weren't tough enough. We have an Administration that believes that The Wrong Side won the Cold War. They really believe that The Good Guys lost. We've had men and women, in this Administration, who "Turn to Mao" for guidance. When they're stuck on a problem, they just try and come up with: 'What would the 20th Century's most prolific Mass Murderer of his own people, do?'

"Men shall know you by the company you keep."
Indeed.

Now. Let's take all of that, and add to it a Complicit Media, willing to do ANYTHING to Protect Protect their guy. And, if that's not enough? Add to it, the fact that he has no opposition from the other Party, as they're too frozen with fear, that somebody's gonna BLAME THEM, for doing the right thing.

He LIES and he CHEATS and he STEALS. He calls for "Shared Sacrifice", each time He, and his Wife, board separate Jumbo Jets, to head off on another Multi-Million Dollar Vacation, because flying around the Country, going to Fund Raisers and Yucking it up with Millionaires and Billionaires, makes ya tired.

This is not the Country that I was born in. It's not the Country I was raised in. This is not the Country that I enlisted in to the Armed Forces, to protect. Obama has done, in 3 short years, what all of our Foreign, could only dream of doing. He has brought this Country to its' knees.

"We are the ones we've been waiting for."

Everything that's happening, today, is in Revelation. From the Increase in Violent Natural Disasters, to the Severity of these instances. We have an Evil Enemy of GOOD, in the White House. All of the Muslim Countries that Obama HELPED obtain their "Freedom", are Arming for War against Israel. They are BURNING the Christian Churches and MURDERING the Christians. He hasn't got a problem with Syria and Iran. They are already on board.

WAR in the Middle East is Inevitable. A total Shut Down of Middle Easter Oil is a given. And, yet, there's a Canadian Pipeline sitting on the Border, waiting to be built.

I wonder why?

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 9:39AM

Guess you won't be voting for Obama, huh? Meanwhile you've been safe from Terrorism, Bin Laden is dead, Iraq war is over, economy is improving, you're lame a* will have healthcare going forward ... yeah, nothing.

Bob Grant| 12.28.11 @ 10:08AM

I suppose in theory everyone will have healthcare going forward, that is, until such a time it's actually needed.

Meanwhile, the country will go utterly broke funding this THEORY.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 10:34AM

Ya, just like the rest of the industrialized world.

Bob Grant| 12.28.11 @ 10:45AM

True,

The Scandinavians have a terrific health care system but of course being a homogeneous society with a relatively low crime rate, NO defense spending, practically zero unfunded liabilities, nor possess the myriad of expensive societal problems that infest this country. You know, those social problems that cause people to riot over shoes.

All of these are costs that the tax-paying citizen of this country must incur that puissant countries in Europe cannot even fathom.

Maybe THEY can afford barely-existent universal health care but were broke.

Bob Grant| 12.28.11 @ 11:14AM

And, yes, I know. Scandinavia is a region, not a country.

Bob Grant| 12.28.11 @ 11:29AM

And another correction: Scandinavia is Pissant, clearly not Puissant.

Stan Redmond| 12.28.11 @ 11:47AM

PLUS they are not afraid to pump their own oil to pay for it. (Norway especially)

Occam's Tool| 12.28.11 @ 6:03PM

And, of course, they support terrorists and don't pay for their defence.

In addition, their research really isn't worth a damn in the health sciences. They have a very few "Elite Institutes," like Karolinska, that award Nobels but don't earn any.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:05PM

And Germany and France and Britain and Canada and Holland and Belgium and and and. We are the ONLY industrialized country without universal healthcare - why do you allow us to be without it?

Controse| 12.29.11 @ 1:38AM

If it is so great why aren't Americans moving there to take advantage? Come to think of it, if it is so great to be like Europe why don't you move there? Don't accept a cheap American substitute. I'm sure a clever fellow like yourself could persuade your favorite bureaucrat to send your government check where it would do the most good.

idalily| 12.29.11 @ 6:14PM

Keep your greedy, avaricious hands out of my wallet, liberal. It's not up to me to work my butt off to pay for your health care. Pay for it yourself.

Louis Jenkins| 12.28.11 @ 4:06PM

Well Purp, we're not safe from terrorism. You'd like to think we are, but we're not. Healthcare? Forget it. When grandma is having a heart attack and Obama says just take a pain pill, I'd like to know what medical school that jack-a-nape went to.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:09PM

I don't know - you tell me what medical school the doctors that deny patients liver transplants for being too old or sick went to? Or bone marrow or heart transplants are denied by insurance companies as to expensive for their age? Those decisions are being made every day - by doctors and hospitals and insurance companies - THAT is nothing new - or are just learning about that now?
Not safe - why not? I mean we're safer than under GW Bush who allowed 9/11 on his watch, and the anthrax terrorism on American soil after 9/11 and we were all alerted then. Hmmm?

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 2:58PM

When Obama suggested that his 87 year old grandmother was not important enough for hip surgery, what do you think it made my 90 year old mother feel like. Do you really want Obama making your healthcare decisions. He is still too stoned.

Occam's Tool| 12.28.11 @ 5:49PM

Purp:

I accepted a job at Fort Hood before taking my current one---I would have had Hasan as a COLLEAGUE!

Only dumb luck saved me from Terrorism, idiot. Obama's policies would have gotten me KILLED.

Your lame ass won't have health CARE going forward---you will have health INSURANCE and NHS rationing. Not the same thing as Care.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:12PM

I see, so the fact that one of our OWN soldiers turned on his comrades is the same as foreigners planning for years, dropping clues all over the place especially right before 9/11 and then attacking the World Trade Center in 2 jets and the Pentagon in another and a 4th that was thwarted? Are you serious? You sound like Newt Gingrich comparing the tragedy of Pearl Harbor to his lack of command of his campaign in getting on the VA ballot. YOU are insane.

Joe Sahyan| 12.29.11 @ 6:14PM

"Safe from terrorism" because some sharp-eyed, courageous (foreign) passenger saw the undies-bomber that Dear Leader's folks didn't. Because the Times Square Bomber's bomb fizzled like Cash for Clunkers. Oh, and if Dear Leader wants "credit" for killing Osama, because it happened during his regime (He wasn't despite the lib myth, really a member of Team 6, going in gun in hand, knife in his teeth), then he gets *blame* for something with far greater potential to harm us than some old fella hiding in Pakistan: Obama *lost* our greatest technological edge...he *lost* a drone, over (of all places!) IRAN, allowing them to reverse-engineer it. So long advantage. Thanks, Dear Reader.

oh, you mean like every ex-president does? after his second term, yes.

John Navratil| 12.28.11 @ 11:56AM

Purp,

Unfortunately so. $200K per year for a freak show. We should so fortunate to save the incremental $200K to pay him for defiling the White House for another four years.

It it were up to me, no one would get the pension. Half-salary for life after working for, at most, eight years is simply an outrage.

Occam's Tool| 12.28.11 @ 5:50PM

John N,

You are wrong on this one, which is rare. But it proves your point, so you won't mind. POTUS makes 400,000 USD a year.

Occam's Tool| 12.28.11 @ 5:51PM

Sorry, if that's retirement, you are correct. But we would pay the bastard $2 million first for 5 worthless years.

John Navratil| 12.28.11 @ 7:52PM

Occam's Tool,

I was referring to the retirement. This came in because Truman had no personal wealth and it was considered "unseemly" to have an ex-President appear penurious.

As with almost everything government touches because it is a "good idea", the results are not so good and grow beyond all reason.

John Navratil| 12.28.11 @ 8:12PM

OT,

Actually, we WOULD save money on the Presidential salary if we voted Obama in for another. His retirement would be delayed by four years.

I'll vote to take the hit.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:13PM

Don't forget the 3 million for "running" the ex-president's office if you really want your head to explode.

Nancy in NC| 12.28.11 @ 8:48AM

With all due respect Mr. Goldstein, I believe your list was too short and imcomplete. Of course, most of us here know Obama's failures, and to lengthen the list is just to infuriate us further.

And I too hope that you won't be required to do this again next year. America as I knew it is dead, but four more years would bury it beyond repair.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 10:17AM

what America did you know?

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:15PM

Oh, you mean the America BEFORE Ronald Reagan started serving the richest 1% ... THAT America ... I see. You have no idea about your own history and you call me stupid? Go learn something and stop spouting what you hear others say.

Ground Control| 12.29.11 @ 9:42AM

Yes I call you stupid, because you are. In fact you are worse than stupid, you are ill-informed AND stupid. What you believe are "facts" are nothing of the sort. As for your so-called "1%" this too is a fiction. Marxist historiography believes that history is a series of struggles between the very rich (your "1%") and the very poor (your "99%") but this ignores the existence of a middle class. In truth, historically, the very rich and the very poor have always had a symbiotic relationship. The very rich support the very poor economically ("Panem et Circenses", the Welfare State, the New Deal, the Great Society, etc...) and the very poor support the very rich politically. It is the middle class that is taxed to near extinction to pay for all this. And with Democrat dominance of Congress for most of the last 80 years, we have seen a progressive advance of welfare vote-buying schemes that do little or nothing to help the poor actually get out of poverty, but insure the dominance of Democcrat politicians from generation to generation.

Purp, you are a stupid drone who parrots what he has been told. You are utterly incapable of objective, independent thought, and unable to think critically at any level. Yes, you are stupid and you can drone on here for eternity and that will not change. Your words mean nothing. Your insults and abuses mean nothing. You are nothing.

That was the plan laid out in the summer, brainiac, it was your boys that wanted it this way... Now, you're boys have to vote to cancel it - will they?

John Navratil| 12.28.11 @ 2:22PM

Purp,

Not our boys! Our boy's wanted to cut $4T. Too many Republicans and ALL the Democrats including the finger-wagging, Botox queen (I think those might be YOUR boys) said otherwise.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:20PM

Nope - Republicants simply wanted cuts, cuts, cuts - it's their way or the highway ... tough. You can't have it only their way in THIS democracy. You must compromise and they would not add revenues, so they agreed to only some cuts in return for the debt ceiling raise. The raise had nothing to do with Obama - this is money spent by previous presidents and congresses and debts promised to be paid - so go blame GW Bush for not increasing taxes and going to war - twice! Blame Ronald Reagan and Bush I for running up 5 Trillion in debt between them... You aren't going to cut government until you can "drown it in the bathtub", too many people need, not rely, need the government, including you all, so get off it and try and help run the country - not ruin it.
Talk about irresponsible children playing a game with all our lives, while the 1% scarfs up more and more of our wealth. And you people are allowed to vote?

Bob Grant| 12.28.11 @ 11:57PM

I'm more offended by section 8 queens drawing 3, 4, 5 thousand dollars a month from the government for doing nothing more than dropping future democratic voters (or criminals if you will) out of their private parts than some '1 percenter' making an unfair amount of money.

You are nothing more than a class envy peddler who contributes zip, natta, nothing, to our society.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 9:32AM

What a wild pack of lies grasping for anything to paint Obama as bad, different, aloof, out of touch, arrogant, anything to put him down. What a tired lame scribe.... can you not do better than this?
"Obama's attempt to reduce the deficit entirely on the top 2% of the population wouldn't work either." - a lie of course. When the Bush tax cuts expire, that will be a tax increase on everyone, not just the top 2%. Simpson-Bolles includes EVERYONE as well. There is no debate when your "facts" are lies.
" This from a man who said during the 2008 campaign he would never question the patriotism of others." - he has never questioned anyone's patriotism. that's a bit of a stretch even for this idiot.
"Yet it is difficult to take Obama's critique seriously when he made a point of postponing a decision on approving the Keystone XL Pipeline from Canada until after the 2012 election to appease environmentalists. " - Another lie to fit your argument. He postponed the pipeline decision partially because the REPUBLICAN Governor of Nebraska, who's state the pipeline will run across and over the regions aquifer, asked him to postpone it for further study.
"he's accomplished more in the first two years except Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln" ... and that is true. More legislation has been passed under Obama than all others, save those 3. And?

so he said that when the debt under 8 years of Bush went from $5 Trillion to $9 Trillion and now under 3 years of Obama (with the first two years of his term under complete D control) he is seeking an increase to $16.2 Trillion

"This final request would increase the debt limit from its current level of roughly $15.2 trillion to $16.4 trillion. The government is expected to come within $100 billion of the current limit by the end of this week, the Treasury official said."

John Navratil| 12.28.11 @ 12:03PM

Indy,

And (roughty) 2 of the 4 trillion spent during W's administration were budgeted in the last two years when Pelosi and Reid controlled the House and Senate.

We went from the frying pan into the fire. That's the source of the Tea Party and the anti-Romney mood. Nobody wants to jump back into the pan, they want to get out of the fire completely.

Indy| 12.28.11 @ 12:31PM

You are correct, graphs paint quite a picture and when you overlay who was in control of Congress wow...but sadly too many on the Left refuse to look at facts so I won't even bother with a link. The cocktail party refused to bring up revising the budgeting process as part of the debt ceiling "debate" if only they stripped out the automatic 8% increase as part of the debt deal, Americans would have supported them, that simple change along with stripping out the stimulus spending from the baseline would have done wonders to improve our fiscal position...but no we get the "we only control 1/2 of Congress" weak response...they play not to lose, we need someone to go on offense for Our Country.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:27PM

Wow and Bush never heard of the veto, is that what you're saying ... sry that dog don't hunt unless you plan to give credit to the House Republicants now that have increased the debt right along with Obama - now there's a head exploder, huh?

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 3:05PM

That was a bad mistake. Now that is a head exploder for you, huh?

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:26PM

"" This from a man who said during the 2008 campaign he would never question the patriotism of others." - and you come back with July 2008 that he did - which is it? LOL
"President Obama has added more to our Nation's debt than all previous Presidents combined" - are you high? Can you not count? When Obama took office, Bush's last budget was in place with a deficit of 1.4 Trillion. Add that and you are over 10 Trillion and even now we haven't surpassed that under Obama, now have we? And over 2 Trillion is being added by a Republicant House that has to appropriate the money - the president doens't do that - so if you want to blame anyone, "BLAME Yo'Self" you voted for the Republicants. Obama's policies have reduced the deficit and it is now on a downward trajectory.... Go back and study more.

John Navratil| 12.29.11 @ 8:44AM

Purp,

Making it up again, I see. As I have written on this topic, TO YOU, ad nauseum, I see you are indeed a lost cause. Obama has spent as much as the public debt was when he took office. You are also, as usual, factually correct when you point out Bush's last budget had a $1.4T deficit. Always so interesting to cherry-pick numbers.

Try the previous years and notice that that was not only the highest deficit (after passing the odious TARP you love so well), but also that it eclipsed Bush's second highest deficit by about $1T.

Remember all those wars you lamented he didn't pay for. We do too! We were screaming about debt then.

Your recent head-exploding trope may be applied when you notice that NONE of Obama's decifits have been or are expected to be less that $1.2T - and he doesn't have any wars to fight (not that those were the real budget busters).

So keep on making it up, but you have worn me out. You are quite hopeless.

Indy| 12.28.11 @ 10:59AM

The Nebraska Governor did not kick the can down the road, he called for a special session to find an alternate route and took action, have a read, links are provided for you.

"Nebraska governor signs bills to reroute Keystone pipeline...

Nebraska forged ahead with pipeline legislation even after the State Department's decision to put off giving TransCanada a permit for the Keystone XL line until 2013...Nebraska lawmakers on Tuesday voted unanimously to move the pipeline and to spend money on the environmental study, sending the bills to Heineman's desk.

He was quick to sign them, bringing to a close a 15-day special legislative session called solely to craft pipeline regulations.

"Our work is done," Heineman said. "I want to say thank you to our citizens and our lawmakers."

http://www.reuters.com/article.....M120111122

"Gov. Dave Heineman says he supports efforts to accelerate the federal approval process for a controversial crude oil pipeline through Nebraska.

The Republican governor said Monday that he'd like to see the Keystone XL project move forward as soon as state officials agree to a new, acceptable route in Nebraska.

Pipeline developer TransCanada agreed to divert the 1,700-mile project away from the sensitive Nebraska Sandhills after Heineman called a special session aimed at the Keystone XL. Environmentalists say the Canada-to-Texas pipeline threatens the state's water and wildlife."

WRTolkas - "I don't mean to write like a socialist; however the way the system works here is if the company is successful, everyone shares."

Tolkas, that is not socialism. It is the American Way. It would be socialism if everyone was rewarded, whether the organization was successful or not. That is equal outcomes.

Obama is allowed to do these things without getting called on it, because the media is dishonest. If they were an honest media, he could not survive with all of these inconsistencies. But, we haven't had an honest media in decades. That is a big part of the reason why they are a dinosaur that is dying.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 10:21AM

Aye, and that is EXACTLY why Obama is not a socialist - but you people won't see it, 'cause you've been taught to hate ... "brainwashed" I think the Cain Train calls it.

Aces and Eights| 12.28.11 @ 11:32AM

It was amusing to tweak him at first, but now I almost pity him. Can he find no friends, or has even the MoveOn and DailyKos blogs found him too obnoxious and blocked his IP address?

The good people at AS let him blab on, perhaps out of a sense of charity. As Mac Jehoff correctly interprets our freedom of speech, even "twerps" can "chirp" on in our inclusive capitalist society.

All these "rhymes with" inspired me to do alittle poetry about Purp and his ilk:

With the coming of the New Year
And the setting of new goals
I will state my resolution
Of not to feed the trolls
The AS Blog’s a forum
Of ideas on the right
There is much disagreement
And often there’s a fight
On Israel or Ron Paul
To bomb Iran or wait
Catholics, Jews and Protestants
And why the Muslims hate
But throughout any vitriol
We really should give pause
And thankfully reflect
That its not the Daily Kos
For over in that corner
We never should forget
That most of those who post there
Are like KingoftheNet
Now I don’t mind a lefty
With whom I disagree
To offer an opinion
Like D Red or RCV
To hear another point of view
Is really not a sin
So I can take or leave
A comment from V Twin
But those who come here to this blog
The forum to usurp
With inane names and comments
Such as is done by Purp
Whether paid to post by Soros
Or merely off their meds
The content is obnoxious
Like the brain fog in their heads
So if their content I ignore
Til they go back to their homes
If I find I’m unsuccessful
I’ll just re-post my poems
And if my prayer does not come true
And on this site they linger
I’ll just ask God to give me strength
And restrain my middle finger
For with their words they do reveal
An absence of contrition
And only serve to fortify
A conservative position
And if I could write music
I’d set this to a song
And belt it out on You Tube
Just why they are so wrong
Instead I will just type this
And wait for a response
And if it is forthcoming
In MS Word bold fonts
I’ll probably just chuckle
As they write out their “your mama”
And sanctify accomplishments
Of Dear Leader Obama
And as their angry words reveal
The knowledge that they lack
At least there is awareness
Sometimes the words bite back

VonMisesJr| 12.28.11 @ 2:39PM

If one is prone to embrace socialism then Obama has done a remarkable job. If one prefers liberty and freedom then Obama is doing a wonderful job of taking those away piece by piece. So, no matter your viewpoint, Obama is doing a wonderful job. If the electorate is stupid enough to re-elect Obama in 2012 they will deserve everything that "dear leader" can do for them.

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 10:22AM

Then you know nothing of what happened in the Great Depression. Go read some history, I have neither the time, space nor inclination to teach you basic American Economic history.

Riff Raff| 12.29.11 @ 9:50AM

Actually I do know. FDR dragged out the depression far longer than it otherwise would have lasted. FDR continued Hoover's disastrous intervention policies and expanded them greatly, but the result was the same as Hoover's, only worse. FDR used the depression to expand government and target spending where HE needed votes the most. FDR was buying votes with the New Deal, not helping the economy recover. His own people admitted to the New Deal's abject failure at ending the depression.

By the way, you also don't have the ABILITY to teach anyone basic American economic history.

russel| 12.28.11 @ 5:16PM

He hasn't " saved " anything , moron , and to the amusement of our listeners - capitalism ? . LOL , just where do get THAT ? . He never had a job , he adheres to Keynesian ' ecomomics ' , hires his economic advisors from a college ( who have the same credentials ) and for all intents , would not be qualified for any job requiring a resume' . Capitalism is a four letter word to this boob . FDR ? . Another laugher . His ass was spared because he started a war . Otherwise , we'd STILL be stuck in his Depression . Go soak your head , if your Mommy will let you into the bathroom .

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:39PM

Our system is capitalism, or didn't you get the memo? You cannot speak for someone else's thoughts, and therefore you know nothing of what Obama thinks.
BTW - how did the war 'save' Roosevelt? By hugely increasing GOVERNMENT SPENDING to fund the war. Good grief go learn something.

Riff Raff| 12.29.11 @ 1:17PM

This is an interesting comment considering that it is you who constantly "speak for someone else's thoughts." You pretend to know what is in other people's minds and then hammer people for what you claim is their thinking. You need help.

He. Saved. Capitalism.

Let me entertain you with a joke of similar logic, from my favorite Kung Fu movie ever, Kung Pow:

"What do you get when you cross an owl and a bungy cord?"

"Answer: my ass!"

Yup, one can definitely see how the two statements make equal logical sense. Are you really Master Pain, aka "Betty" in disguise? Don't you realize that that's a girl's name?

Purp| 12.28.11 @ 11:41PM

You know nothing ... do you watch Fixed News? you hear that phrase "he saved capitalism" and you don't even consider what that could mean? You're not even curious? Then you are a closed mind that is beyond redemption.

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 3:03PM

The market place saves capitalism. The governments job is simply to protect the integrity of the marketplace. Obama at narcissistic best may claim to save capitalism, but only the idiots believe him.

People are ignoring the MOST grevious insult this man inflicted on the American people and a perfect example of how this man is completely out of touch with most citizens.

This man made a speech to the American people and PRE-Empted "A Charlie Brown Christmas" to make his speech.

Millions of American voters are not going to forget this.

I wonder if Obama's own protocol droids aren't purposefully allowing him to make such egregious faux pas. It wasn't just his humiliating behavior in front of the British but also his absurd bow-plus-handshake to the Japanese Emperor.

First and foremost; the President does NOT bow to any foreign monarch. Period. While we do indeed respect others' heads of state; the United States was established in revolt against the very principle of monarchy. Additionally, under NO circumstances does one bow to a Japanese and simultaneously shake hands. It was absurd and disgustingly obsequious.

The only other answer I can come up with is; Obama is just so arrogant he presumes to know more than those responsible for protocol.

Or perhaps, it's just the entire Administration is made of ignoramuses. We should not forget Hillary Clinton's risible "reset" fiasco in Russia where they showed up wearing BUTTONS!, for crying out loud that said "Overcharge" not "Reset" in Russian. Clinton's protocol droids could have obtained the proper translation by just going to "Google, tranlate."

I guess that must be it; arrogance combined with unself-conscious ignorance. There's no other answer.

Indy| 12.28.11 @ 11:27AM

Your article is definitely an incomplete, how can you miss Fast and Furious? The death of Agent Terry a year ago, at least 200 Mexicans killed and F&F is a tool aimed at gun control? We have learned much about this program in 2011, thanks to Issa and Grassely. I have to tip my hat to CBS, they have done a good job on F&F.
"Documents obtained by CBS News show that the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) discussed using their covert operation "Fast and Furious" to argue for controversial new rules about gun sales....

ATF officials didn't intend to publicly disclose their own role in letting Mexican cartels obtain the weapons, but emails show they discussed using the sales, including sales encouraged by ATF, to justify a new gun regulation called "Demand Letter 3". That would require some U.S. gun shops to report the sale of multiple rifles or "long guns." Demand Letter 3 was so named because it would be the third ATF program demanding gun dealers report tracing information."
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31.....gulations/

You also did not mention Solyndra/ Beacon (bankrupt in 2011) and the energy dept knowingly making risky investments with taxpayer $ These "investments" are classic examples of crony capitalism one key point which requires follow up is why were Obama donors put in the front of the line of taxpayers (Solyndra), they knew it would go bankrupt and the taxpayers were put in the back of the line. Voters and taxpayers need to know. Obama even had the nerve for another photo op at Solyndra before it went under. I can only imagine the media's reaction if this had happened under Bush (his administration recognized Solyndra was too risky an investment and did not fund it but Obama did almost as soon as he got in office).

Ruh-Roh, and economics lesson from the peanut gallery - How dumb can you be? The multinationals are alive and well and VERY profitable - why is that? They lay Americans off and hire the Chinese and the Indians for 1/10 our salaries. My company, a Fortune 10, is doing it right now. Meanwhile back in America, laid off workers don't buy things in America, which leads to a lot of small businesses closing and some big businesses as well. When your customers (99%) have no money and only the 1% do, how much can they buy - you have no sales and you go out of business. Simple isn't it? Get money back in the hands of the 99% and the economy will grow. Now you don't do it by bailing out the 1% who just keep it - you give it to regular people who spend it - millions and millions of people spending = jobs for everyone. That is simple too. The irony is that if all business fails, the 1% won't have anything to buy either.
Sears and Kmart will be just fine, they have 3500 stores between them, altho they are declining and have been for a decade.

Wayne| 12.29.11 @ 3:01PM

Occam's Tool| 12.28.11 @ 5:57PM

You and I know why...and dare call it Treason.

Despite the crap, have a wonderful New Year, my friend.

Questionman| 12.29.11 @ 6:00AM

You are one sick hate-filled racist! You're funny. Hatred of Obama is just not going to win.
Obama’s a communist. And the evidence for this preposterous claim? Certainly nothing the president has ever said or done. Obama favors a return to Clinton-era tax rates, a time of balanced budgets and growing prosperity. A multimillionaire like Romney would find his marginal tax rate on income over $1 million had risen from 35 to 39.6 percent. I believe he can afford it. True, Obama’s healthcare reform is mildly redistributive, but then so is Romney’s Massachusetts insurance plan it so closely resembles. You're a paranoic nut (and troll, and gambling addict). President Obama is no Marxist, and in many respects is more conservative than any number of Republican Presidents. You are all just disgusting racists that hate having a black man as president you used fear into proganda that everything in America was fine under Obama came along! The GOP will destroy this country trying to destroy Obama if we let them.

Timothy L. Pennell| 12.29.11 @ 7:03AM

Wow. That's quite the bunch of bullsh*t, you've got there. He's not a Marxist? Really? Cause his Muslim Father was a Marxist. His 2nd Mentor - Jeremiah Wright is a Marxist. He write in his own BOOK - "When I got to College, I SOUGHT OUT the MARXIST PROFESSORS". He began his Political Career in Bill Ayers' Living Room. Bill Ayers is a Marxist. He is an acolyte of Saul Alinsky. He taught Saul Alinsky 'Workshops'. He taught Alinsky's 'Rules For Radicals'. A Marxist Guide to Anarchy.

What? You need more?

His Mother was a Communist. His Maternal Grandparents were Communists. His 1st Mentor - Frank Marshall Davis - was a Communist.

I am so Racist.

He has filled his Czar positions with Communists, Marxists, Socialists and Maoists. His Science Czar wants to put STERILANTS in to our Drinking Water. LOOK IT UP! His Medical Czar wishes we could emulate China's ONE CHILD Policy. His Media Liaison had to resign, after she wowed her audience from the Podium, of her choice of the Greatest Mass Murderer of the 20th Century - MAO - as one of the two Philosophers she relies on, whenever she's in doubt. His Economics Czar told HIS Audience that: "We get it. Capitalism is a JOKE, and that Mao was right when he said that 'Power comes from the Barrel of a Gun'.

No Conservatism yet.

Let's not forget his FCC Chairman. He lavished Praise on Hugo Chavez, for "Doing what needed to be done (Shutting down, and taking control of the Television and Radio Stations) in order to save his "Beautiful Revolution".

In fact, every one of his Czars is either a Communist, a Marxist, a Socialist, or a Maoist.

But, you don't care. He's Great. He's Black, so nobody can say anything about him, or they're a RACIST. You're Pathetic.

Nobody hates him because he's Black.

WE HATE HIM because he's RED.

Now GFY.

Timely Renewed | 12.28.11 @ 6:50PM

The solution must go deeper than simply replacing this incompetent ideologue. Much of the Obama administration's ability to wreck such havoc comes from a constitutional jurisprudence which has allowed the national government to expand far beyond its proper constitutional bounds. We can only hope to be free of this or future administrations of its ilk when we restore the original limits on the national government. Given how entrenched that Supreme Court jurisprudence is, this can only be done by amendments restating those original constitutional understandings. See http://www.timelyrenewed.com.

This is still a work in progress, sorry I am in Afghanistan so it takes time.

Principles of this American
1. In words stated long ago, “Millions for defense, not a cent for tribute!” Most of our “Foreign Aid” is nothing more than tribute to this country or this cause so they will not attack us or work against our interests (think of Pakistan as a prime example). It is time we stopped, and simply tell these entities, “Go ahead, attack us so we can bury you and move on.” By all means defend our allies, but let those allies be natural allies, tied by similar traditions, customs, and mutual defense.
2. You are not guaranteed success, all you are assured of is the freedom to succeed or fail. It is the pursuit of happiness, not the attainment that is in our Founding documents. Fairness is a concept in social life that only works when all parties agreed to it, and even then only if there is a shared sense of value and ethics.
3. We have compromised too much for too little. It is time to stand firm to tell anyone who would tear the Country apart that the line has been drawn and it will not be breached. I would say it is time to go on the offensive to regain the lost ground. Our compromises from this point on should be taking ground back, not giving more away.
4. We are Americans, not Afro-Americans, Native Americans, White Americans, Hispanic Americans and so on. Damm it, we are AMERICANS. Move to OUR Country? Learn OUR language, OUR customs, OUR laws and live by them or leave.
5. A sense of Civic duty needs to be reinstated in our popular culture and education.

Any constitution is only as good as those who uphold and intrepret it. The US constitution didn't stop half the population being enslaved. Habeus corpus as a principle has now disappeared: US citizens can now be made to disappear at the request of the state: and be droned at will. Where now life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness: another dogma in the dustbin of history. Listen here folks: a piece paper can never guarantee anything.
