Barack Obama was supposed to be America's answer to the suave, European head of state. A debonair gentleman of the world, he would charm even the most sophisticated foreign leaders and prove, finally, that the United States is developed culturally, not just economically.
Then he gave some DVDs.
Ian Drury of London's Daily Mail wrote on March 8, "As he headed back home from Washington, Gordon Brown must have rummaged through his party bag with disappointment.
"Because all he got was a set of DVDs. Barack Obama, a box set of 25 classic American films -- a gift about as exciting as a pair of socks."
Brown had given Obama a set of pens made from part of the HMS Gannet, a Victorian-era anti-slave ship. A desk that has sat in the Oval Office since 1880 was made from the timbers of the HMS Resolute, the Gannet's sister ship. It was a stunningly thoughtful and unique gift left unreciprocated.
But even worse, Obama refused to hold a joint press conference with Brown or invite him for an official White House dinner. And to top it all off, he sent back a bust of Churchill that was lent to the White House after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Russia Today wrote that week, "Despite Barack Obama's eloquent elocution, ivy school credentials and electric charisma, there is talk that he lacks the most crucial element of any great leader: judgment."
Since March, Obama's social gaffes have continued. In April he bowed to the Saudi king; in July he was photographed staring at the rear end of a 16-year-old girl and suggested that Cambridge Police Officer James Crowley was stupid; in October he refused to meet with the Dalai Lama; in September he refused five requests from Gordon Brown for a one-on-one meeting but found time to fly to Copenhagen to promote Chicago's Olympic bid; and this month he sent Hillary Clinton to attend the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, then topped it all with an obsequious bow to the emperor of Japan.
Obama cannot even blame the Japan bow on proper protocol. It was anything but proper. It was so inappropriate that it even offended the Japanese.
President Bush supposedly offended the rest of the world with his cowboy chauvinism, but at least he followed proper etiquette while telling the leaders of other countries that America was going to go its own way. Obama doesn't even know to invite the Prime Minister of Great Britain to a state dinner. He doesn't even bother to learn the proper way to greet kings and emperors.
For all of George W. Bush's swagger, it is Barack Obama who has systematically offended three major allies -- Britain, Germany and Japan -- in the span of nine months, needlessly straining important relationships and making his country look simultaneously backward and arrogant.
The reason for this is simple and obvious: Obama's singular arrogance. Only arrogance can explain the way Obama has treated Gordon Brown. Only arrogance can explain the president's snubbing of Germany and repeated refusal to learn the proper protocol for greeting other world leaders.
Obama might be cultivating world opinion by insulting his own country in speech after speech and undermining its interests with his foreign policy, but the joke is on him. For his transparent disdain for other world leaders and customs is making him every bit the image of the buffoonish American president he tries so hard to convince the world he is not.

You can take the boy out of the Ghetto but you cannot take the Ghetto out of the boy. Or in this case, I believe, out of the girl, since it is Mrs. Obama I blame.
My auntie used to teach primary school in Alabama. Every year at the start of the school year she would have at least one Black student, aged 5 or so, tell her arrogantly, *Ma mama say I don gotta lissen to no ol WHITE WOMAN.*
It is my opinion that Michelle Obama tells her husband frequently that he don gotta lissen to no ol WHITE FOLKS when they tell him how to behave. And he is so clearly aware now that he knows nothing of the world outside Chicago, that he listens to her.
R Martin| 11.18.09 @ 8:50AM
I think you are spot-on here. I've always believed the White House contains not one but two very dangerous people with distinctly anti-American views. And I've always felt it was Mrs. Obama who championed Rev. Wright and required her daughters to listen to him rant.
birmingham| 11.18.09 @ 9:22AM
Now that you say that, I totally agree that it was Michelle who like the angry "church" that her darling little girls were dragged to. In all of the videos, the only time I heard him mention God was during his "God damn America" rant. How sweet....

Appleby, I don't care about Obama's skin color; it's his Marxist ideology that worries me. White man, black man or purple man--doesn't matter to me; it's what's in a man's heart that counts.
Race is a distraction, and I don't want to be distracted from the real danger that Obama's radical beliefs present.
Abdul Kareema Wheat| 11.18.09 @ 6:57PM
I disagree. It's the socialism and tribalism that appeals especially to blacks. The mantra that they recite ( "Rev Wright, Jackson & Sharpton" ), adhere to and fervently believe is that they've been screwed and always will be. Thus they'll always be looking at America as one who MUST meet their needs. Free this...free that...affirmative action...hiring quotas...level playing field...subsidies....scholarships...grants...are all a part of what they believe they're owed. And America still cows before their demands regardless of their lack of gratitude for the last 50 years of amends.

Appleby's focus on race is foolish at best. There are and always have been plenty of white radicals around to inspire and work with Obama. Throughout this comments thread there are others who have criticized your views.

Ghetto? Really? More like an arrogant, leftist, late-boomer who is so in love with his own supposed intelligence that he doesn't feel the need to listen to anyone else (like maybe a protocol officer). Although I found Rev Wright's rants greatly offensive, Obama's character was formed long before he began attending that church - he is far more a product of his hippie-dippy mother and others on his mom's side of the family.

Obama is a classic narcissist, so full of ego and his overinflated sense of self-importance. There is nothing intelligent about him at all. If anything, his many lapses in judgment and misstatements, which are too numerous to state, have indeed made him far more of a buffoon then the media could ever have portrayed George Bush as being.
Jamie| 11.19.09 @ 6:54AM
Narcissism is one possibility (and, indeed, the one I lean toward). But a second possibility is that the President is one of those poor fools who believes that everything is amenable to simple explanation or solution - that if he just does what he "feels" is right, it'll all be fine; his intentions will shine through the substance of what he actually does and all who observe will take the intention for the deed.
I had a boyfriend like that once. Sigh. He is not leading a happy life.
J. Kelley| 11.18.09 @ 6:53AM
Michelle Obama for the first time in her adult life was proud of her Country. After it became possible for her husband to be elected President. With the Chicago machine and the teaching of the Reverand Wright this couple does not like the US or White Countries. The Reverand Wright taught hate for the 20 years the Obamas attended his Church. They were not vetted by our so called Main Stream Media.

While the arrogance and narcissisitic behavior evident in the president are his to own, be assured that many of his gaffes are the result of listening to and following the guidance he is receiving from his personal staff. His social and diplomatic missteps, as well as his many other mistakes, are indicative of a systemic problem in the White House. The man cannot be blamed for what doing what he has always done--listen to the voices of others. If he has ever had an original thought, it isn't evident.
Jamie| 11.19.09 @ 7:01AM
Of course he can be blamed for continuing to do something foolish! After the DVD ridiculousness, why didn't he fire (or at LEAST reprimand and demand better from) his protocol staff? I agree that the President is not known for original thought and I'm forced to conclude it's because he's unable to produce one, but he certainly is responsible for what he does with the advice he's given. Judgment is separate from originality; Pres. Obama was elected - putatively - for his sober judgment. (Of course in reality he was elected because he was a political rock star. Welcome to it, groupies...)
Al| 11.18.09 @ 7:40AM
No wonder the media love this clown! His comedy writes itself and he is definitely the king of buffoonery. With GWB the media had to make up a lot of scandal and gaffes but with this bunch, they've hit pay dirt.
Roscoe| 11.18.09 @ 7:44AM
Theologian, if this is some kind of excuse for the guy, you better think again. The guy is nigh 50 years old, and is the freaking President of the United States of America!! If some idiot tells him that it's going to be OK to give the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom a box of DVD's; if some idiot tells him that when meeting the Emperor of Japan he should make a deep-bending, boot licking bow, and he believes such shite, then HE - not them - is COMPLETELY responsible. One of his predecessors famously held that "the buck stopped here"! Had anyone told RR that "it is proper protocol sir to make a deep boot-licking bow to Gorbachev...", he would have told that idiot to take his bow, and go join the air traffic controllers. This clown needs to man up for the next three years until we boot him.
Reformed Theologian| 11.18.09 @ 4:45PM
Of course he is responsible. You make my point entirely, albeit in slightly more pointed language--he's old enough to know better, only he doesn't. Why is that? I'm not making excuses for his inexcusable behavior. I'm merely pointing out the fact that his gaffes and missteps indicate a problem that permates his entire organization and is a reflection of where he comes from and how he got here. Don't expect him to "man up." He doesn't know how.

So much for the great black hope huh? Many Whites, and Blacks had pinned so many hopes, dreams, and getting back at whitey for all those years of oppression and slavery. Whites, had pinned their hopes on wiping the racial slate clean and starting anew.
But someone along the way forgot to tell Barrack and Michelle that.
They've instituted a African third world Marxist ideology more akin to Robert Mugabe than of Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln.
Now, instead of Democrats and Republicans being pissed off at each other, now everyone all over the world is pissed off at each other and especially at Barrack because Der Spiegel states, "That Barrack Lied to the European people." Well, my German friends, just go to the back of the line and stand there with the rest of the pissed off world at the great black hope that wasn't.

By the way, Marx was a European. Not sure you were aware of that. His ideas actually had a pretty big impact there. You can find it on Wikipedia under "20th Century."

While I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Cline's assessment, I must stress that we conservatives must ALWAYS state the truth. For the record, Our Glorious Leader did not stare at the 16-year-old's rear end (video showed only a momentary glance), and he did not suggest that James Crowley was stupid, only that the officer had engaged in a stupid act. These differences are trivial, but we must be truthful in all reporting, trivial or not.
Ed| 11.18.09 @ 12:29PM
Agreed wholeheartedly. Bravo for pointing this out. We should always take the high road.
Tom in Michigan| 11.18.09 @ 12:44PM
I seldom respond directly to other posts but must agree as well. There is no need, as in the case of of the Left's canards about GW or Sarah Palin to fabricate anything about BO and his associates. The truth is certainly stranger than fiction.
loulou| 11.18.09 @ 1:23PM

Clintidote| 11.18.09 @ 1:15PM
If he *had* stared at that 16-year-old rear end, that might be the only forgivable act in this entire sorry administration up to this point. It was certainly stareable, as evidenced from the pic.
fanofamerica| 11.18.09 @ 6:10PM
We can just replace the 16-year old's rear end example with the fact Obama chose to go to Camp David instead of Fort Hood after the tragedy there. Thank goodness for leaders like George W. Bush and his lovely wife Laura who made the trip within hours to give comfort to the wounded and condolences to the families of the dead. And with no call to the media for a staged photo op. Now that's how it's done with respect and class.
igiveup| 11.18.09 @ 6:35PM
Oh didn't you know? GWB orchestrated that attack in Ft Hood so he could make this hospital appearance and make Soetoro look bad. I read it on the internet.
gunter| 11.18.09 @ 7:11PM
Dennis.....
A picture is worth a thousand words, ergo: a
2 second glance is worth a thousand thoughts.
Also, smart people generally do not engage in stupid acts. Stupid people DO engage in stupid acts, therefore, Obama stating that the officer engaged in a stupid act, is the same as calling him stupid.
Speaking of that glance at the teens rear, I can't really blame hin, have you taken notice of Michelle's? She physically wears the Democrat's symbol on her backside.
GringoBob| 11.18.09 @ 8:00AM

Why, what other explanation can there possibly for saying bad things about our Hip Hop Adolescent in Chief? Jeanine Garofalo hath spoken let it be so throughout the land: Criticism of Obama's policies, and even moreso criticism of Obama himself - American pop culture's way-cool answer to Che Guevara T-shirts - is racism, "straight up." Garofalo didn't say, "you crackers" after her comment, but I could tell she was thinking it.
I would be grateful if we all agreed at least that this famous so-called charisma is nothing more than a Conspiracy to Like (i.e., an inoculation against the original sin of racism).
Because he's got as much charisma as a callow, sullen, petulant, know-it-all 14-year old. I absolutely do not see one scintilla of charisma or charm in this creep - whose chin, you may notice, is always cocked cartoonishly high, and I'll bet nobody on the left does, either. Nor am I blown away by his oratorical skills. At all. Obama is proof that affirmative action does not produce the best or the brightest.
I cannot wait until he's universally ridiculed as the buffoon he really is - as if the aforementioned 14-year old tried on Daddy's too-big suit and tried to pass himself off as a successful businessman.

Obama was/is every liberals darling image of what black people were supposed to be. Obama, as he tells us in his book, was the slick, smooth talking, hip black guy, who could play liberals for the fools that they are, as he sauntered his way through life, thanks to the Easy-Pass given to him by these same fawning liberals.
Liberal elites, once they capture the hearts of their fellow leftists, are free to do whatever the hell they please; afterall, it's a one man game and they make the rules. Back during the campaign one of my tags for Obama was "the buffoon mentalist." It appears, thankfully, that at least the "mentalist" part in now in failure mode.
The bad news is that he remains President of the United States.
As for his judgment, he devoted himself to a demented, racist "black theology" church for twenty years, the black equivalent of a Klan-based Christian Identity church. His excuse: "I just attended the rallies because my wise uncle ran them; I never burned any of the crosses."

Many years ago my dear Grandmother told me a story (several times) about a young boy that went to a party. There were several there and as he moved about through the guests, there was laughter, everyone was smiling, almost seemingly at him. How nice thought the young boy, and he smiled back, and after a few minutes the laughter became louder and he was laughing too, although he didn't know why. That is untill one of his family members told him the whole rear end seat of his pants had ripped out. The second I read the above article I remembered this story.

I had a teacher who told me, "The essence of savoir-faire is seeing that you have a run in your stocking, but acting as if it's not there at all." I've grown to agree entirely; you can ignore and overcome just about any inadvertant embarrassment if you act resolutely. But awareness is key: if you don't know you're making a fool of yourself, all your supposed savoir-faire gets lost in the fun cognitive dissonance.

I have to admit, he does come off as boneheaded; but he dresses elegantly, doesn't he? The first time I laid eyes on those finally creased trousers, I knew I was looking at a suave statesman, a future President. And when he does that pose for the cameras with his nose in the air, like Mussolini? Magic. Isn't it great to finally have a sophisticate in the White House?

By now most people have caught on to the resoundingly obvious fact that Obama has a deep seated resentment of white people, perhaps amounting even to hatred. You can put it more delicately than this, but why bother? Too much more of Obama’s anti-Western, anti-White displays—and there have been many—and the dems’ already weak prospects for next year will be downright bleak. Of course, the usual sources of spin will come out of the woodwork to argue that these gaffs are all very trivial stuff and have no relevance to the ‘real’ Obama. But Obama got to the presidency by carefully crafting an attractive, electable image, which he had the discipline to maintain month after month during the campaign. Are the Obamanoids going to make the argument that he had consistency and discipline then but has none now? He indeed had consistency then and has it still. He is both a showman and a racist. The showman he no longer needs, but he doesn’t have the sense to drop it; while the racist in him is ascendant, but he doesn’t have the sense to hide it.

Senior aides to Barack Obama accompanied four Uighur prisoners as they were flown from Guantanamo Bay to the British colony of Bermuda, without the United Kingdom (UK) being informed, it was revealed In early June, 2009, angering the UK.
In an escalating diplomatic row over the transfer of the former terrorist suspects, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed the transfer with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband in what was said to be an uneasy conversation. Privately Whitehall officials accused America of treating Britain, with whom it is supposed to have a "special relationship," with barely disguised contempt.
Remember, in February, in one of his first exchanges with the UK, Obama sent a bust of Winston Churchill back to Britain. Then, in March, Prime Minister Gordon Brown faced humiliation after he was snubbed by Obama. During Brown's visit, the Prime Minister brought several meaningful and valued items to give to Obama. What he got in return was 25 CD's of classic movies, that were incompatible with the UK format. Then, in April, Obama gifted Queen Elizabeth II with an iPod, a gift that was criticized by etiquette experts.
In June, Queen Elizabeth -- the only living head of state that participated in WW II -- was snubbed and not invited to the D-Day ceremonies, described as a "Franco-American" event.
In September, it emerged that Barack Obama had turned down no fewer than five requests from Downing Street to hold a bilateral meeting between Obama and Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, at the United Nations in New York or at the G20 summit starting in Pittsburgh on September, 24th.
Obama has not missed a single opportunity to insult the Brits, one of our greatest allies.
Accidents? I hardly think so. The US State Department, Office of the Chief of Protocol, under the direction of Acting Chief of Protocol Laura B. Wills, is responsible for avoiding these gaffes. Career bureaucrats, working out of the White House are in place to ensure insults such as these, don't occur. So, they must be purposeful -- but why?
It's my opinion that Obama's divided loyalties are at the bottom of his treatment of the UK and he harbors a deep and abiding hostility towards the Brits because of the treatment he believes his grandfather and father received during British colonial rule.
During Obama's first visit to Kenya in 1988, his grandmother Sarah told him about the resentment against white colonial rule in Kenya, with rallies and mounting violence that would explode into full-scale rebellion in 1952. "Most of this activity centered on Kikuyuland," she told him. "But the Luo, too, were oppressed. Men in our area began to join the Kikuyu"
"Granny Sarah" told Obama that Hussein Onyango Obama, Obama's paternal grandfather, became involved in the Kenyan independence movement while working as a cook for a British army officer after World War II. He was arrested in 1949 and jailed for two years in a high-security prison where, according to his family, he was subjected to horrific violence to extract information about the growing insurgency. Sarah, said that her husband had supplied information to the insurgents. "His job as cook to a British army officer made him a useful informer for the secret oathing movement which would later form the Mau Mau rebellion," she said. "At the time the insurgents were secretly taking oaths which included promises to kill white settlers and colonialists," Mrs. Onyango said.
"To arrest a Luo, WW II veteran, who was a senior figure in the community, is pretty serious. They must have had some damn good evidence," said Professor David Anderson, director of the African Studies Centre at the University of Oxford, and an authority on the Mau Mau rebellion.
Obama refers briefly to his grandfather's imprisonment in his best-selling memoir, "Dreams...," but states that his grandfather was held only for "more than six months." Obama described his grandfather's physical state: "When he returned to Alego he was very thin and dirty. He had difficulty walking, and his head was full of lice." For some time, he was too traumatized to speak about his experiences.
Barack Obama Sr., Onyango's son and Obama's father, seems to have inherited his father's attitudes towards the colonial power. He was also arrested, for attending a meeting in Nairobi of the Kenya African National Union (KANU), the organization spearheading the independence movement. Sarah told Obama that his father, unlike her husband, had been held only for a short time in the white man's prison: "Because he was not a leader in KANU, Barack [Sr.] was released after a few days."
Onyango may have been a victim of the fight for Kenyan independence, but his son became a direct beneficiary of that movement. In 1959, Barack Obama Sr. was sent, on a scholarship, to the University of Hawaii. Obama Sr. was selected by a former Kenyan cabinet minister, the late Tom Mboya, who was earmarked as the successor to Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya's first prime minister and leader of the terrorist Mau Mau.
It is clear that the Obama's were close to the leadership of the independence movement. It is also clear that Obama's "divided loyalty" -- his anger at the white British colonists' treatment of his grandfather and father -- is behind all of these insults to America's greatest ally.
"Divided loyalties" was an issue during the Constitutional Convention because of the Founders fear of foreign influence and the possibility of incidents, such as the ones mentioned above.
In fact, Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts wanted to take the issue so far as to stop foreigners from becoming citizens at all, claiming that the naturalized citizens would always have divided loyalties both to their home land and to America. John Jay, Superintendent of Foreign Affairs (the predecessor of today's office of Secretary of State), claimed that it would be "wise and seasonable to provide a strong check to the admission of Foreigners into the administration of our national Government; and to declare expressly that the Command in chief of the American army shall not be given to, nor devolve on, any but a natural born Citizen."
Pierce Butler, an Irish-born delegate from South Carolina, developed an intense plan that would defeat all objections arising against earlier proposals for electing the president. However, given the doubts concerning divided loyalties that Elbridge Gerry, John Jay, and others expressed, Butler's proposal also included what became Article II, Section I of the Constitution.
It is evident that the Founders had a clear reason to fear conspiracy and divided loyalties, and it is evident that Obama, a native-born Kenyan, has allowed his divided loyalties influence his judgment and behavior in regards to the UK.
This is personal and purposeful.
And don't even get me started on Obama's divided loyalties and Islam.

Mr. Cline, why did the Japanese view the bow as inappropriate? I would have thought they loved it.
Ned | 11.18.09 @ 10:44AM
The Japanese have a VERY highly refined sense of what is appropriate at any given moment... King Zero's bow was excessive and obsequious to the point of being unseemly, even to Westerners but especially to their Emperor.
The depth and the timing of the bow are ordained by social status - BO's boot-licking clearly stated that "You are greatly superior to me... forgive my existence." - which is hugely inappropriate for the "Leader of The Free World"
Sir| 11.18.09 @ 11:40AM
I heard it put this way:
The USA is supposed to be Japan's greatest, strongest, most reliable ally. If we grovel to the 'Emperor', then how great and powerful do we look for... say... Kim Jong Il... or Hu Jintao... or Putin... or Ahmedinejad...?
Perception, as they say...

Jamie| 11.19.09 @ 7:22AM
Similar to my observations, stmichrick, except that I saw primarily the "chattering classes" getting offended by Bush, in the classic (famous among Irish-Americans!) "Who does he think he is?" vein. The answer to this question was, of course, "President of the United States, de facto leader of the free world" - something Bush never forgot. He represented the United States with firmness and awareness of its singular place in the world.
Bush, to my recollection, never set a foot wrong in protocol, and in dealing with his own countrymen and -women, he by all accounts was personable, courteous, and sensitive, with a pretty darn exquisite sense of when he needed to be where, so to speak (Ft. Hood, for instance).

I found this story in an unknown newspaper based in the 666th Congressional District of the State of New York City, which is one of the 57 states the procrastinator-in-charge carried in last year’s election. Here gum’mint monetary policies have saved or created 95,362,291 jobs at a trifling cost of $95,362,291,000,000,000.27 surely ending the recession beyond all evidence to the contrary:
“Bury Sore-toe-oh was thrilled. All his life he had dreamed of becoming Emperor of the Universe just like that dude in the Star Wars movies. Now, at long last, he was to get his chance to impress a real life, genuine article of the emperor type. Just as he entered the royal presence, The Emperor spoke unto him, “Mr. obummer mmm mmm mmm, your fly is open!” In his haste to correct the matter, Bury suffered a whiplash injury to his back. Just at that moment a malevolent monkey wearing a “THE EVIL BUSH’ made-in-China tee shirt leapt from behind a curtain and snapped the now famous photo of the moment. Confidently jutting forth his noble chin, Bury swatted the simian scamp like it was a mere fly and read, “No, it isn’t.” The Emperor, with a twinkle in his eye, chortled, “Made you look!” Mrs. Emperor, who had witnessed the whole thing, whispered in her husband’s ear, “He is such a beavisbud.””

Actually, 1Freeman, many people do not know why the sky is blue (Rayleigh scattering); all too many erroneously believe it's a reflection of the natural blue of the ocean, when in fact the converse of that is true.
Similarly, the majority of my acquaintances, coworkers and erstwhile friends STILL think Obama is wonderful and that it's those dumb right-wingers shouting that the emperor is naked who are benighted.
Besides, every day for the eight years Bush was president, we had to hear from all sides what a moron he was. And now the drumbeat has been transferred to Sarah Palin.
I'm NOT saying bitching about Obama is sufficient in and of itself. But you never know when a lib is going to turn away from his moral vanity and see reality (although I grant you, that is a rare occasion indeed), and we want to provide them with regular updates on what it's like outside the ego echo chamber. I am sure the Amoeba Obama parasite doesnt really care.
He will just go golfing again when he gets back from his Asia trip and tell everyone that its all GW Bush's fault anyways.
Obama cant even make up his mind on Afghanistan because he doesn't want to look bad to the George Soros crowd. It really isn't all that hard of a decision when you think about it really.
Meanwhile, all of us racists will continue on in our daily lives trying to feed our families and take care of our loved ones.
A black man hits a white woman in a bar over "white priviledge" and there is silence. The media has ignored it. Wouldnt this qualify as a hate crime?
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/l.....uG6uUySGTN
A white cop doing his job offends a black man who happens to be a professor and we have a national media blitz and a debate on race relations.
Obammy is 50% black and 50% white yet he is ALWAYS called the first BLACK president. The emphasis being on the black aspect.
Obama has insulted pretty much every single ally that we have including Israel, Britain, Germany and still the Left caters to this mans ambition. (Their hypocrisy knows no bounds in this matter)
Obama has pretty much eviscerated the foriegn policy established by his predeccesor and has now hamstrung our Armed Forces in a PC nightmare and a refusal to fight within the laws of war has put our soldiers lives in even greater jeopardy. The ROE in Afghanistan and Iraq are travesties that make Vietnam look like a Blackwater playground.
Obama continues to adhere to a Keynesian economic policy that is clearly not working and still he receives a pass from the MSM.
The Obama allied media in this country continues to ignore the popular sentiment of rising anger towards its established Goverment and continues to openly advocate for its agenda.
and now, one of my favorite quotes which I think sums it up quite nicely.
"I have always thought the actions of men the best interpreters of their thoughts."

Does it occur only to me that all the follies are an unplanned yet effective sideshow, but the real action here is that the Adolescent in Chief has adopted the Reagan strategy for the demise of the Soviet Union, and has applied it to the US of A? If the enemy (us, capitalism) is driven to outspend its capacity to produce (or if the ability to produce is compromised through tax policy, or bailouts of corporations that should have been allowed to expire), the end result will be predictable - social chaos, massive unemployment, and total dependence on government for at least 51% of the population. Presto!
Permanent power for the apparatchiks is now ensconced in the dimly lit halls where the real power lies, especially with the administration's newfound zeal to remove the "opposition" from civil service positions, another first in the annals of twisted governance here in the US.
We're screwed, folks. Or at least in line...

1FreeMan, I can speak for no one but myself. I make fun of beavisbud’s inept stupidness because as Margie points out, if I don’t, I’ll cry. His inaction in Afghanistan is nothing less than treason. Treason is an impeachable offense and every member of Congress not calling for not just his impeachment but a conviction is also a traitor. How sad for our brave MEN and WOMEN who really do have skin in the game that the biggest threat to their lives and security is the deserter-in-chief, though considering that the Korean War has never ended, the Vietnam outcome and the insipid leadership of Carter and Clinton, I’m not surprised. Didn’t whiplash chime in that Afghan was the good war that we must win or something like that. He needs to modify this plan adopted by Ronald Reagan, “Here's my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose.” This will also work in the Muddled East. Instead of victory in Afghanistan we are bread and circused by the Gitmo traveling road show coming soon to a court near you. Maybe he’s planning to pay off the massive debt, in excess of $100,000,000,000,000 - yep that’s a 1 followed by 14 zeros - by selling tickets. Finally, KyMouse, everything you have read or heard about the dire straits of the economy is absolutely true. Yes, the stock market is still trading at its highest level this year, but all of that is mostly the result of gum’mint intervention. The Dollar Index and the price of gold are more reliable indicators of the sinking ship in our future. As those increase, international confidence in the U.S. economy decreases. As soon as China quits enabling American profligate spending, the house of cards will collapse. All who are invested in only American dollars will be hurt the most, but those of us who live here will all suffer. This will be, as steponbugs suggests above, the Alinskyite crisis the doofus-in-office seeks. My chains chafe. How about yours?
And, Bydand76, Mr. Locke was no doubt familiar with the Matthew 7:15-20. Here is the King James Version:
“15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
“16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
“17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
“18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
“19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
“20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”
Prophetic.

Ah yes, as a resident of Northern Virginia, how well I remember the incident of January 15, 1999, when David Howard, a white aide to Anthony A. Williams, the black mayor of Washington, D.C., used the word in reference to a budget. This apparently upset one of his black colleagues (identified by Howard as Marshall Brown), who interpreted it as a racial slur and lodged a complaint. As a result, on January 25 Howard tendered his resignation, and Williams accepted it. However, after pressure from the gay community (of which Howard was a member) an internal review into the matter was brought about, and the mayor offered Howard the chance to return to his position as Office of the Public Advocate on February 4. Howard refused but accepted another position with the mayor instead, insisting that he did not feel victimized by the incident. On the contrary, Howard felt that he had learned from the situation. "I used to think it would be great if we could all be colorblind. That's naive, especially for a white person, because a white person can't afford to be colorblind. They don't have to think about race every day. An African American does." Geez, what a bunch of blather from a bunch of aggrieved moochers.

I have really enjoyed reading the comments on Obama or is that Obimbo. The truth and fact of the matter is this may be the worst President in the history of our country for many reasons not just including his treatment of foreign countries and dignitaries, but also his intent upon the destruction of capitalism, the American dollar, the economy, the military, the United States and her people. It is clear this man was never raised to respect the dignity and worth of each person . He was raised to respect only want he believed and wanted or someone programmed him to want. His birth and background and his mentors and friends clearly point to a man who is bent on rectifying perceived wrongs without evaluating the consequences or the emotional and logical basis for these beliefs. It is also clear that Obama is a puppet for someone else who hates this country and is bent on her destruction. We know that he is scripted on everything he says and does and on his own stammers and cannot make a decision. When attacked he fires back or closes the conversation down like a petulant teenager. The real danger in a man like this is how gullible he is (because of his ego) to being controlled. Sometimes I think this is just a bad dream and I will wake up to find a saner world. Unfortunately, this is not the case. His popularity is down again. Today there is a -14% difference between those who approve and strongly disapprove of the President. I just hope Congress and the Senate will wake up and unite to block more of his bills and attack his ego.

Full disclosure first. I have both a Bachelors and Masters degrees in Japanese. My studies included conversational and technical Japanese language; Japanese and Asian culture, literature and business practices and economics so, please forgive me if I presume to speak from a position of some formal knowledge. In terms of general protocol, an American does not bow to a foreign head of state - period. To do so confers acceptance of their dominion over their subjects. We are a representative republic which has specifically rejected monarchy as our form of government while still maintaining respect for those nations who have otherwise deferred. Therefore, a more appropriate gesture would have been a slight nod of the head in deference to the Japanese host’s customs accompanied by a slight bending at the waist. Most Japanese would find a dramatic, overly obsequious bow such as that demonstrated by our apparently sadly unsophisticated (or, perhaps merely misguided by his own staff) President to be inappropriate at best or comical at worst.
Moreover, according to many experts in Japanese protocol, the bow is not expected of Westerners as it is directly related to the Japanese concept of showing deference for status and seniority – anathema to Western egalitarian cultures such as ours. Additionally, if he insisted on the bow- the President should have done it correctly. Men should keep their hands at their sides while women usually put their hands together on their thighs with their fingers touching. Finally, bows are not meant to be accompanied by physical contact so, the simultaneous handshake was an exacerbating faux pas. There is much more latitude for ambassadors and other envoys to Japan but, Mr. Obama is not only the Head of Government; he is also the Head of State. Whoever advised him this was proper protocol is just wrong. If this were an isolated incident I would probably write it off to poor staff work but, as it has been construed by many as a continuing pattern of disrespecting our own nation, I am once again disappointed by the President’s actions. I suppose however I should be grateful Michelle didn’t slap the Emperor on the back – that’s apparently reserved for queens.

Is there anyone, in the history of the republic, who is less fit to be President than this clown?
Let's count down his "accomplishments":
(1) Half-white, half-black son of a very nice hippy-lady (Dad's out of the picture);
(2) Affable student and drug user (weed, coke);
(3) A Harvard Law grad who was editor of the law review but never published anything (doubtless, the goal of "diversity" got him his editor's job).
(4) After finishing school, admitted failure in the business world who became a race baiting, "community organizer" (i.e., shake-down artist). Singular accomplishment: getting asbestos removed from a housing project (never helped any mom, or her children, get out of that project, though).
(5) A politician who banked on his charisma and "black-ness" to gain public office, who managed to mau-mau his Republican opponent in his Senate run, and who began his campaign for President after only serving in the Senate for a year.
This guy learned his chops in the Capone-style, abjectly corrupt, world of Chicago politics.
His voting base consists of (i) under-educated single moms, (ii) the children of under-educated single moms (who, themselves, are under-educated), (iii) over-educated students, (iv) nitwits (e.g., liberals), and (iv) nitwits who listen to - and believe - what the liberal media says.
It's no wonder that sticker shock is settling upon the nation. Just wait for the show-trial of KSM.
This person, unbelievably, now guides our ship of state. Rather than gloat, or laugh, we must all pray that he, somehow, gains wisdom before the corpses pile up (here and abroad).
Paul McGrath| 11.18.09 @ 10:03PM
The left loathed Mr. Bush, of course, Mr. McGrath, but occasionally during one of their fuzzy moments they would concede that Bush would be the type of person that one would want to "have a beer" with. I never thought that way. To me, Bush was that huk-yukking guy you knew in college whose idea of revolution was to drink too much and act like an idiot in an Ivy league school to get back at his parents.
Obama, on the other hand, is another story. Bush would at least buy your drinks all night and maybe introduce you to his girlfriend's girlfriend: there is a certain amount of value in that.
Obama would lecture you all night about Marxism or Trotsky or Che or some other asshole who has made a point of slaughtering the world. He'd listen to you, of course, while looking patiently at the ceiling, then charm his friends while you were in the bathroom with some insult at your expense.
Simply, the guy is a pompous jerk. A know-it-all who knows nothing. Drinking a beer with him would be insufferable.

As someone who regularly interacts with persons from around the globe (I have regular contacts who are German, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, British, Mexican, Canadian Belgian and Indian - just to name a few) and has traveled abroad on both business and pleasure the idea that these countries "hate America" whether we have a Republican or Democrat leader is pure nonsense. The ONLY place I have ever traveled where I was not treated with great kindness and courtesy was the Bahamas - I'm not sure why but, that's the truth. Other nations and their people don't "hate America." Speak with people who have emigrated from dictatorships such as Russia, Cuba and Venezuela as I have and listen to how grateful they are to be here. Who hates us are the Leftists and their willing or uninformed dupes whether here or abroad. I don't know whether other nations are snickering at us or not but, I am afraid a weak, incompetent or ineffectual President endangers not only the US but the world at large particularly as we are seeing that nations like Japan, India and Turkey and others with whom we cultivated valuable alliances are reconsidering their own foreign policies and alignments – likely to our ultimate detriment due to the actions of the Obama Administration.
Dixie Pixie| 11.18.09 @ 4:17PM
A few quick questions.
Where is the State Department hiding out these days. Did everyone at Foggy Bottom take off to the Hamptons for the duration of the Obama administration? It is the State Department stock and trade to know the proper diplomatic protocols. It is one of the functions of the State Department to keep track of the national leaderships likes and dislikes. So why is Obama not using the resources at the State Department.
Could it be Hilliary Clinton wants Obama to look like a fool on the world stage. Could it be that Hilliary has instructed the State Department personal to give the White House bad advice. Could it be we are watching a bureaucratic shootout between the Hilliary and Obama minions.
The other explanation is Obama considers himself such a towering intellect, he can deduce the proper diplomatic protocol from the light glinting off floating dust motes. Is it possible Obama is so intellectually arrogant, he is blind to what diplomatic damage he is doing.
Who do conservatives cheer for in this diplomatic fiasco?

Bush grew up in a family with some class. This guy comes out of nowhere, so where would he learn any social graces?
marvin| 11.19.09 @ 1:46AM
the amount of assumptions and unsupported claims contained in this article and the ensuing comments is amazing to me. fact checking the article would be a worthwhile endeavor for anyone who believed all of its claims.
SoCon| 11.19.09 @ 2:13AM
Marvelous Marvin, care to share just one of the article's 'unsupported claims' you bleated about? Hmmm? Just one would be stupendous, you know.
I guess Obama didn't really bow to the Emperor of Japan or the Sultan of Swat, he was just checking to see if his fly was open. Whatever.

It's not that President Obama is black.
It's that he's red.
Gerald Stephens| 11.19.09 @ 5:25AM
POINT...It's Black Pimps and Democrats
For the record, I am white and a Constitutionalists.
Black American citizens are as loyal to the founding principles of the Nation as any other group, and proved it with blood on battlefields from the Revolution to through present wars.
Unforgivably, their attempt to share the bounty of the country for which they gave their blood was trodden into the muck of corrupt politicians and hanger on black pimps exploitation. Yes Mary, they number among their people giants of commerce and industry, academia, law, science and all else.
How then is it possible , one might ask, for such an overwhelming number to vote for a Mr. Obama? That is where the Democrat and black pimps slither into the contemporary picture.
Imagine yourself in a country wherein you were told, 'You're now free', as the case after the Civil War. Imagine you discovered this proclamation was in fact false - be a littled 'pissed' I think.
And sensing that being 'pissed' presented a perfect opportunity to pretend to the 'pissed' that you could and would help them get 'unpissed' upon, the pimps moved in. Imagine who you would vote for with your new right to vote.
So welfare was created and in turn abused by the pimps as a mechanism to continue an enslavement. With every new election came promises of more welfare AND the threat that not staying loyal to the pimps would mean the loss of your check. Imagine being controlled in this manner.
Most Black citizens recognized that there was a choice. Either continue to stand there with your hand out or work just that little bit harder to break free for real.
Imagine one of your 'own' could be the first to be PRESIDENT of THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA! And you thought CHANGE actually meant for the better. And the race pimps drummed the tune that failing to vote for or criticizing the CHANGE artist IS RACIST.
Well if there is any light at the end of the the Nation's Obama tunnel it is that our Black citizens are aware that listening to the pimps is not only bad for your health, keeping a job, the deficit that your kids will pay, and just about everything you actually believe America stands for.
And a word for all those warped white folks who delight in concocting schemes of bigger and better welfare enslavement, now to include white folk also, you all are just a past chapter in American history.
All of have now seen the dark valley of liberal insanity and the people will seek the light on the hill as a most logical choice.

Your history is faulty. After the Civil War, blacks voted overwhelmingly Republican. The first 2 black Senators and first 5 black Congressmen were all Pubs. They had no use for the Dems.
It was right after the Civil Rights Act was passed that they switched to the Dems, becaus ehte Dems promised them free money (welfare), free advancement (Affirmative action), and talk of more free money (reparations). They locked in the next generation with "Hate-Whitey" rhetoric.
You're right, that all this did was destroy the black family and shackle their minds, thus, re-enslaving them. The blacks are slaves to the Democratic Party. However, all this transpired after the Civil Rights movement, not before. There was no devious, two-faced, ulterior motive.

Mr. Cline,
I am not a conspiracy theorist, yet I was particularly interested in the distinction between Obama's bow to the Japanese emporer and Obama's bow to the emperor's wife (the emperess?). Everyone, including the Japanese, know that the bow to the emperor was incorrect and gauche at the very least. His bow to the emperess seems to be correct, a slight bend forward dipping the shoulders. Does that mean that Obama knew the correct protocol and intentionally bowed low to the emperor? If so, one wonders what this means. If not, why the distinction betwween the two bows?

Political Correctness and the lack of Commen Sense is going to be the downfall of this country. I have thought that for years. Why? Why should we have to hide our pride for our country and our God, yet allow everyone to parade theirs in front of us and we have to remain tolerant? Why is it offensive to tell me Merry Christmas because some non-christian may over hear? I don't care. I celebrate Christmas and I want to say it and hear it in return. If I don't get offended at someone saying Happy Hanukkah or Happy Kwanza why does Merry Christmas offend so many.
Watching our President, and I use that term loosely, make a mockery of our country by continually ignore protocal and his lack of sophistication should be an embarassment to us all. It is to me. Here is where the common sense should kick in. If he is as well versed as he is made out to be, when provided the protocal for meeting heads of state he should "feel" that something isn't right and ask. Again...Common Sense.
Do you hear that whirring sound? That is our fore-fathers spinning in their graves at the lunacy that is currently running our country.

"Brown had given Obama a set of pens made from part of the HMS Gannet" This is the the first ding in your credibility for me. It was a pen HOLDER, not a "set of pens".
"in July he was photographed staring at the rear end of a 16-year-old girl" strike two and you're out. Here's the unedited vid: http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=8049121
There is PLENTY to attack Obama for (I agreed with everything I had read so far) but THAT is a blatant lie and you lost me. Credibility is EVERYTHING and you are lacking. As for the racist comments, you people are either trolls or morons, either way I want nothing more to do with ANY of you.

"Despite Barack Obama's eloquent elocution, ivy school credentials and electric charisma, there is talk that he lacks the most crucial element of any great leader: judgment."
This was pointed out long in advance of November 2008.
RebeccaH| 11.19.09 @ 12:54PM
I'm the last person to want to defend Barack Obama, but to equate him with blacks from the ghetto is just wrong. Obama never lived in an inner city slum in his whole life, and was apparently outrageously spoiled by his affluent white mother and grandparents. Aside from raising him with socialist ideals, they should have at least taught him manners. He has no excuse for being the boor he's turned out to be.
SoCon| 11.19.09 @ 5:50PM
I agree. Obama's a spoiled brat--so is Michelle.

Yeah, you really shouldn't have put the 'staring at the rear end of a 16-year old' part in there. The rest was good and valid and enough.
It's basically equivalent to all the multitude of 'Bush looking silly' pictures (that were funny) that were taken out of context and sometimes used to imply he was incompetent -while in plenty of cases he was intentionally looking silly as he at least had a sense of humor. (again, there was plenty of policy to attack Bush on, much of the media lost credibility with viewers/readers for sensationalizing minor things taken out of context rather than address real facts and actions)
Obama has plenty of rope, and has been trying to hang himself with it since he got into office, there's no need to use the same tactics that caused many Americans to turn away form the MSM. I remember when the Daily show was actually considered comedy (before John lost Steve and it got alot less funny), and not a news source equal with other outlets...
Jackson| 11.19.09 @ 5:54PM
Why is it so tough for some to admit that Obama could be a typical horn dog? Who cares? He was definitely checking out that girl, though. It's absurd to say otherwise.

Don't forget that Obama announced to Poland that the US was dropping its missle defense plan on the 70th Anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland. As someone who hung out with Marxists all his life, he probably had a good laugh.

A while back, I was friends with a really bright guy from Pakistan. He surprised me by saying that he liked the British system for the following reasons. You have one big shot (king, queen, whatever) who handles the etiquette. They and their staff study up on how to go to parties, gift choices and how to have a swell time at the state dinner without making a fool of yourself. Then there's a second guy who's real smart and organized and is actually capable of running the country. You know, PM or President type. I've kind of decided that Barak doesn't work for me in the second job so I wondered about the first one. Well, I guess that's a no go too. Even the best theories sometimes just don't work in practice.

Without the Republicans, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 wouldn't have been passed by the Congress. Of course, that means all those Republicans were racist, don't you know?

Democrats created the KKK and terrorized blacks for decades--so much for vaunted liberal 'tolerance'.
Democrats have always been the biggest bigots around.

I had a Master Sergeant, who just happened to be black, in my last Infantry unit in the '70s who told me, as I was frustrated by the daily racial troubles the Army was dealing with, that "Sergeant Baker, being a jerk doesn't have a color." Good advice from a man I had and have great respect for. That would account for some folks above in this forum.

The solution for idiots like Toddard and Liberal Reader is to totally ignore them. These hapless fools absolutely live for anyone responding to them. Don't answer, respond, or dignify their inane thoughts with anything. If someone were shouting obvious nonsense on a street corner that you could hear while passing by, would you go over and listen?
