The Obama Watch

Paper Bag 1, Obama 0

Can Barack Obama argue his way out of a paper bag?

Can Barack Obama argue his way out of a paper bag?

That’s the question eminences of his party will be mulling after his defeat Friday at the International Olympic Committee in Copenhagen. Obama put his worldwide popularity and the full weight of the office of the presidency of the United States behind Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Olympics.

He surprised the world by losing on the first round of balloting. That hurt his credibility at a time when he could least afford it.

I had thought Republicans were foolish to protest Obama’s Olympic bid as a costly waste of time. It seemed such an easy layup for a president who could use it.

Chicago had put together what to my untrained eyes looked like an impressive bid to host the games. Sending in Obama to seal the deal seemed a good call. Protesting it only made Republicans look petty beforehand and promised to make them sore losers, and enemies of contests that are popular, after he brought it home. There was just no upside in criticizing that.

Wrong! Obama now looks arrogant for assuming that he could land the games and extremely foolish for putting the prestige of the executive office behind a losing cause.

Of course, the GOP faithful could still overplay their hand on this Olympic-sized vindication. Talk show host Laura Ingraham was whooping it up over Brazil’s victory Friday night at Americans For Prosperity’s Defending the American Dream Summit in Crystal City, Virginia. “RIO!” she chanted, predicting that this was the beginning of the end for Chicago-style politics. Her enthusiasm is commendable, but it would be unwise for the Republican masses to follow suit and appear to be gloating.

Still, it will be hard to distract from this traumatic loss for a president who was touted for his ability to convince people of things. He got lily-white Iowans to vote for him over a party favorite. He managed to nimbly sidestep the Jeremiah Wright debacle. Here was an antiwar candidate who convinced voters to trust him on economic matters.

Obama’s past successes only makes his stumbles now more puzzling. The inarticulate George W. Bush convinced Congress to cut taxes and launch two wars. Professor Obama is having a much harder time of it. He was getting knocked around on the world stage before Friday and his domestic agenda is in deep trouble.

The president is struggling to deliver on the legislative priorities of organized labor or environmental groups. The more he speechifies in favor of health care reform — in stage-managed town hall meetings, on Sunday morning talk shows, before a joint session of Congress — the further it slips from his grasp.

Too much can and will be made out of the Olympic decision; however, we can say this much: It was a loss when Obama wanted and needed a win. It was supposed to be an easy sell and a nice way to mark the end of his second term in the White House. Now one sure thing is gone and the other one is looking less sure by the day.

Does anybody seriously doubt that Mitt Romney, Obama’s most likely Republican challenger in 2012, would have failed to bring the Games home?

Mitt Romney need not apply either.

Obama will be re-elected; the GOP is compromised.

Danster| 10.5.09 @ 10:24PM

Hate to say it but you are right. Obama is a disaster for our nation, but the Republicans are lost out in the weeds, and may never find their way out.

Bohred| 10.5.09 @ 6:48AM

Oh I like Mit. He would be a good VP for Sarah.

Son Of Sam | 10.5.09 @ 8:22AM

I absolutely agree..I think that they would make a great team. Or Palin/ Jindal. Or honestly speaking, any principled conservative who wants to restore America to being a Constitutional republic. I would still hold out hope that maybe the Democrats will start nominating patriots again, but JFK died before I was even born, so I'm not counting on that.

As for all the gloating out there, I'm not part of it. Personally, I thought it was the height of arrogance for the TelePrompter In Chief to go out there hustlin' and shillin' for his hometown cronies. He's always TALKING about "restoring Americas standing" with the rest of the world. If he actually believed that, he would have thrown his weight behind Rio in the first place. No South American nation has ever had a chance to host the games, and it would have meant a lot to the hundreds of millions of people living there to have us graciously decide to let them have a turn. Just for once

Obama: helping our enemies and pissing off our friends, one nation at a time.

PS And oh yes, we could use a little attention on the economy, and having a recovery with actual jobs in it. Ya know, kinda like having a meal with actual food in it

LQQKY| 10.5.09 @ 8:52AM

Sorry SOS, JFK was well on his way to a failed presidency when he was assinated. That made him a martyr, not a good president.
The messiah's best chance of redemption is to stay out of the economy, health care, and every other form of pay back to those who got him where he is i.e., fast tracking us to socialism. He, his teleprompter, and his cronies are hell bent on destroying this nation. The one productive thing he can do is to either help the troops win in Afganistan or pull us completely out of the mid-east. His current strategy is only getting our guys killed.
C.D. Lueders

Eric Damon| 10.5.09 @ 12:06PM

Hey LQQKY,

Sam wasn't saying that JFK was a good president, just that he was probably the last Democratic president (aside from LBJ) who was a real patriot. Like him or not, there is no dispute that JFK loved this country and respected the ideals that it was founded on; heck if he were alive today he would probably be a Zell Miller Democrat, who cannot believe the hard left turn taken by his party.

A. Brooks| 10.5.09 @ 8:40PM

LBJ had a strange way of showing his patriotism. What a mess he made out of Vietnam.

"the last Democratic president (aside from LBJ) who was a real patriot."

A. Margrave| 10.5.10 @ 4:26PM

The last Democratic President whom one could describe as a true patriot was Grover Cleveland.

A. Margrave| 10.5.10 @ 4:27PM

Are you kidding? JFK today would be so far left you could not find him. As he was all his political
life when he walked this earth.

Walter| 10.6.09 @ 4:57PM

Remember when everyone got mad at Rush for saying that he hoped Obama failed? I think by now half the country wishes Rush was right. By 2012, it will be the whole country.

Mystery Mann| 10.17.09 @ 10:50AM

The only Obama could argue his wat out of a paper bag would be if he were in there with the Three Stooges. On second thought, the Stooges might just make enough sense to the idiot to convince him to stay in the bag. Now if he makes a 911 call to say Luney Tunes Inc. maybe they could send Daffy Duck to save him. He probably would never think of asking for the Roadrunner. Beep Beep

Alan Brooks| 10.5.09 @ 8:31PM

Palin can't make it in '12 because this is a brawling man's world. And don't argue about the unfairness-- I don't make the rules.
Only thing worse than naive Dems is naive Republicans.

Alan Brooks| 10.5.09 @ 8:33PM

But maybe Palin in 202o.

Palin/Petraeus 2012.

I'll vote for Sarah too. We badly need a Margret Thatcher heading our Gov't, you know , smaller gov't, "claw back" of funds from the banks and other now gov't owned companies. Only someone way outside the DC box that is willing to put up with savage trashing by the liberal press will be willing to do this. Sarah is the only one that comes to mind.

True to form, a number of the "shining lights"
are blaming Bush for Chicago's loss. If this keeps up and Bush is responsible for every domestic and foreign policy failure for the next following years, he will be the most significant President since Lincoln.

Amor de Cosmos| 10.5.09 @ 10:10AM

Michael, we know that all Lincoln did was blame Buchanan for all his problems. Not.

There's a difference between leadership and showmanship. Lincoln exemplified the former, Obama the latter.

Rick| 10.5.09 @ 11:33AM

Jeremy Lott said: "The inarticulate George W. Bush convinced Congress to cut taxes and launch two wars. " Other people have remarked on how substantive Bush's public speeches were, compared with those of Obama. Bush was able to persuade Congress to lower taxes (mistakenly, it turns out) and to start two wars (perhaps heroically -- only time will tell) because even at his least articulate, Bush was all substance, and loved his country. Nice reference to Buchanan. Maybe historians will see an analogy Lincoln/Johnson = Bush/Obama.

Danster| 10.5.09 @ 10:27PM

It is never a mistake to lower taxes!

Appleby| 10.5.09 @ 7:03AM

If you know anybody who lost big time in the Dotcom Bubble, you know that there are a lot of Obama v. Paper Bag contests out there when arrogant, strutting little boys run head on into the concrete wall of adulthood when the soft pillows Mommy and all the sycophants and hangers on have draped all over the world are rudely snatched away.

The most important lesson anybody will ever learn is that once you leave high school, Popularity no longer matters. In point of fact, the more Popular you were, the more people enjoy watching you bounce off locked doors and trip over barricades.

*There is no limit to what you can do if you do not care who gets the credit* is a phrase I first heard from the President of Coca-Cola and later from Ronald Reagan. I believe that President Bush got a lot more done that history will reveal than Zero will ever accomplish -- because he did not care to be named Mr. Congeniality so much as he cared that America should be safe.

Shamus| 10.5.09 @ 7:05AM

Romney instituted a health care plan which has increased cost and decreased quality while he was governor. If this is what voters want, then they should stick with Obama. My feeling is that Palin lacks both the experience and leadership skills to be an effective executive. If the GOP nominates her, then they deserve to lose.

art341| 10.5.09 @ 7:51AM

Palin had more managerial experience, managed the family fishing business, mayor of Wasila and Governor of Alaska, than Obama had. In fact Obama's experience was limited to community organizing and running for office. Look at what that has gotten us.

Shamus, Feeling about Palin are not facts. On what do you base her lack of experience and leadership?
Seems to me she has demonstrated both in degrees that Obama never has and never will. A few years of maturing in the arena of polotics and she is ready.

Shamus| 10.5.09 @ 3:37PM

I read a number of articles about what Palin did during her time as Alaska governor. My take is that she has a confrontational management style. There were a number of incidents where people who disagreed with her were quickly fired. Perhaps if she had more management experience she would mature in her outlook and become less confrontational.

Palin has only part of a term in a high level executive position. Six or seven years of experience would be better. Obama never had any kind of executive experience, and he's making a lot of really dumb mistakes.

Danster| 10.5.09 @ 10:34PM

What suprises me is how the white house staff all seem to be lost? The Olympic defeat sould never happen. If it isn't a win he shoould never have gone, can they not count votes? I expect O to be a bust, partly due to zero experience but you would think he would have staff that can find their buts in the dark?

CB| 10.5.09 @ 7:23AM

...but why would the GOP lose? We just elected someone who "lacks both the experience and leadership skills to be an effective executive".

Shamus| 10.5.09 @ 3:49PM

While a party that chooses a poor candidate deserves to lose, they may luck out and wind up winning. American democracy often suffers the evil of two lessers.

jack| 10.5.09 @ 7:38AM

its is funny how long its taken people to start realizing this guy is a stone cold moron. his campaign did well because the media refused to challenge him, poke fun at him or publicize his history with radicals and the Rev.
now that the voters are able to see this guy cant put a coherent sentence together without a teleprompter, has no knowledge of US or World history and is completely ignorant of basic economics the fun should start. Bush was unable to pronounce words and read script, but he had real ideas and thoughts,Obama appears to be the Ted Baxter of US politics, merely a guy who looks good reading from a teleprompter but is a fool

Deborah D | 10.5.09 @ 10:19AM

He couldn't be touched -- so thought the media -- because they didn't want to be called racists. That's what political correctness has gotten us. Shhhh...don't bring up anything bad about candidate Obama because he's black, and that would be wrong. So, ignore Rev. Wright. Ignore Bill Ayers. Ignore any connections Obama might have with the radicals out of the radical city of Chicago. Ignore his (2) biographies and his attraction to "Marxist professors" -- that was in his youth, you know. He's now Mr. Pragmatic. Beat up Joe the Plumber for daring to say the word "socialism" and then after the election blare "We are all socialists now" on the cover of Newsweek.

Those of us who actually got our news from reliable websites and trusted news sources were not surprised by the Obama love fest with himself. Perhaps Euros are starting to see it which might make our media start paying attention.

Walter| 10.6.09 @ 5:00PM

From a number of articles that I've read, I am convinced that Obama is truly our first Affirmative Action President!

Michael L. Hauschild| 10.5.09 @ 7:51AM

Laura Ingraham gloating bad, Lott gloating good.
Republicans overplaying bad, Lott overplaying good.
Sarah Palin bad, Mitt Romney good.
Me bothering to read this crap bad, anyone else reading this crap also bad.

Son_Of_Taz| 10.5.09 @ 10:08AM

So you're not only reading it but responding to "this crap" - what does that say about you?

Michael L. Hauschild| 10.5.09 @ 10:34AM

How can you respond to anything without reading it? My comment was to warn others not to waste their time. What this says about me is that I am conscientious enough to actually read what I comment on, specific enough to state what I found wrong with the article, and astute enough to accurately summarize the content of an article (crap) that, as an afterthought, interjected a RINO so inept that he lost to McCain.

JerseyJ| 10.5.09 @ 1:33PM

Mr. Lott ... "Her enthusiasm is commendable, but it would be unwise for the Republican masses to follow suit and appear to be gloating. "

By all means let's concern ourselves with how we appear to the screwball lefties ... or perhaps not.

Mr. Hauschild, you are correct. The time for listening to those who counsel pandering to the center and putting up so-called "electable" candidates is over. We need to take back the Republican party and reinstall some principles.

As for Romney, I'll simply quote my favorite book ... "So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth."

Robert Rosencrans| 10.5.09 @ 8:02AM

It was obviously a losing hand for Obama to play and my, what a sacrifice Michelle and the Oprah made, traveling to Copenhagen and having their fat asses pampered like millionaires.

What you need to understand about Obama is that in the year 2000 he was so strapped for cash that he was denied a rental car at the 2000 Democratic convention.

Rush Limbaugh has a theory that Obama is a socialist and wants to give the wealth back to those from whom it was taken. I agree with him.

It goes further then that though. What you have here is a petty thief bureaucrat who will take whatever he can get. Free trip to Copenhagen? Put me down for that. Never mind that U.S. troops wait for his decision about sending more troops to Afghanistan. The British have already made their decision to send more troops to Afghanistan and they are notorious for slow decision making.

Basically, what you have here is a bunch local yokel politicians who have achieved national stature but continue in their local thieving money grubbing get me all you can get ways.

While the Obama's grab every freebie at public expense they can, they allow the U.S. Congress to be distracted putting together hopeless pursuits like public options and cap and trade.

Here's a little flashback from the election. One of many examples about outright thievery that was ignored.

http://tadcronn.wordpress.com/.....t-scandal/
According to the Los Angeles Times, when Obama was an Illinois state senator, he began receiving an $8,000-a-month retainer from Robert Blackwell Jr. to provide advice to his technology company Electronic Knowledge Interchange.

At the time, Obama was struggling with debts from an unsuccessful bid for Congress, and he was so strapped for cash that his credit card was rejected for a rental car at the 2000 Democratic Convention, according to Obama’s book “The Audacity of Hope.”

The monthly payments from EKI supplemented Obama’s state Senate pay and finally totalled $112,000, according to NewsMax. Yet, Obama’s disclosure forms for 2001 and 2002 did not specify that EKI was the source of most of his private-sector compensation, the Times reported.

According to the Times story: “A few months after he received his final payment from EKI, Obama sent a request on state Senate letterhead urging Illinois officials to provide a $50,000 tourism promotion grant to another Blackwell company, Killerspin.”

The day after writing the letter, Obama received a $1,000 donation to his Senate campaign from Blackwell.

Killerspin, which promoted table tennis tournaments and gear, eventually received $320,000 in grants between 2002 and 2004 to subsidize its tournaments, the Times reported.

David Axelrod, Obama’s chief political adviser, denied the story: “Any implication that Sen. Obama would risk an ethical breach in order to secure a small grant for a ping pong tournament is nuts.”

Obama’s Web site reports that Blackwell is committed to raise $100,000 to $200,000 for the presidential campaign.

Obamites will no doubt vivisect, downplay and rationalize this story, but for thinking people, this fits right into the pattern we’ve seen from the self-annointed agent of “change” and “hope.”

With the defeat on bringing the games to Chicago, one would expect President Obama to get some advise from his Pastor and Mentor of 20 years. The Reverend Jeremiah Wright was considered part of President Obama's family. But alas, the Reverend Wright has stated " them Jews won't let him(President Obama) talk to me". "Don't gloat, children" says Jeffrey. . .shhheeess. .Hey Jeffy. .I'M GLOATING. . .OK? What Jeffy needs to be indignant about is how the Dems OPENLY rooted for defeat in Iraq with the loss of American lives deemed a POLITICAL PLUS FOR DEMOCRATS! They were positively GIDDY as the war got tougher. Remember Gore screaming "He played on our fears"? Murtha, Kerry. . .all playing politics. . all USING the war to further their own political careers and agendas. . .at the expense of our troops. Let's talk about that. . ..not the gloating conservatives may feel at the failure of an utterly disastrous and arrogant President.

This is humbug. I don't know anything about Mr. Lott, but most of the folks who lecture about celebrating etc are doing nothing to help defeat Obama and the Dems. The GOP is STILL invisible on healthcare reform and other matters. Mr. Lott and other pundits should be lecturing the GOP to get off their duffs and sell their plans instead of sleep walking their way to 2010 and letting John McCain try to remake the GOP in his image (this was the case before now anyway, was it not? LOL. That's why our side lost in '06,'08). Sheessh is right!

Is this not the first time in Obama's life that people aren't buying what he is selling? If he had ever needed to balance the free money we was spending with a payroll he would have realized that when you actually have to produce something it takes work.

So the man who has been handed everything is now discovering what an after-school sacker at the supermarket learns as a teen. You have to provide something people want before you will be paid for it.

Only in America can such a know-nothing become President. But what does that say about the electorate?

Binnie| 10.5.09 @ 2:14PM

Good questio, The electorate. Hmm.. I wonder just how many authors here at American Spectator voted for Obama.

John Navratil| 10.5.09 @ 3:51PM

Not many, I'm sure. Perhaps the readership will increase in response to the Big O. If I recall correctly, the subscriptions to The American Spectator and The National Review both jumped substantially when Clinton was elected.

Binnie| 10.5.09 @ 5:05PM

The Republican RINO's, of which there are many authors here, it seems to me, keep nominating, and voting for RINO's. Is that not in effect, giving their votes to the Marxist-in-Chief? ...way to keep the subscriptions coming in.

Appleby| 10.5.09 @ 10:25AM

A character called Ashleigh Brilliant put out post cards called Pot Shots back in the 1970s with various pithy sayings on them.

One of these says "If you don't know where you are going, how will know when you arrive?"

The Republican Party needs to ask itself that question and find somebody who can answer it.

Deborah D | 10.5.09 @ 10:33AM

I think you should put that on a postcard to the GOP. Perfect assessment.

davelnaf| 10.5.09 @ 10:29AM

It is hard to see how Obama and his handlers will explain this one away. Of course, in the larger scheme of things, meaning the rest of the country, it is no big deal for Chicago not to get the Summer Olympics. But by throwing himself into the selection process O revealed once again why it was such a bad idea to make him president. A few more of these and the democrats in Congress will put him on permanent surveillance for any sign that he might be lurching uncontrollably into campaign mode.

Big J| 10.5.09 @ 10:36AM

Marxists aren't smart. If they were the USSR would still be in existence and people would be drowning to get INTO Cuba.

Each passing day we are given incontrovertible proof that Olame-O is horribly inept. Any US citizen (or even a Kenyan) has more examples than needed to win an argument.

I recently asked a liberal to prove Obama's smart. Couldn't do it.

Oh? He made it to "president"? So did GWB. Now Bush is smart?

Who knew?

Margie| 10.5.09 @ 2:42PM

"Marxists aren't smart." ~True. They may be intellectual, and oh so good at pontificating, but not smart. Marxists want slaves. They are the enemies of your freedom. This is Obama as he is taking away America's freedom faster than Rev. Wright can say "God d!@# America." -His words, not mine.

PolishKnight| 10.5.09 @ 10:32AM

The term "overplaying your hand" comes to mind in this case. Consider the "all-in" situation in no-hold-em poker: A person with a marginal hand but in serious need of more chips puts all of his chips on the line in the hopes of pushing out insecure players.

This works great provided, of course, that someone at the table doesn't have a great hand such as two aces or a lot of chips to gamble with. It's referred to as a "high risk, small gain" maneuver.

Obama's poll numbers are slipping, he's going into a fall (literally) real estate market, and he doesn't have any more money to blow around. Even if he had gotten the Olympics, he would've gotten but a small blip. Now he's pushed his credibility down further. Even a talk radio gloat party can't help him recover. What are talk radio pundits supposed to do? Remain silent?

Mah-Mee| 10.5.09 @ 10:43AM

Dear Mr. Obama (sorry, still can't get myself to say President),

Sorry to hear about your (getting thumped and chumped) not getting the Chicago Games. Perhaps it was (all the murder and corruption) not to be this round.

In light of the (humiliating loss) recent IOC decision and witnessing your (empty suit rhetoric) devastating negotiating skills, I propose we move up our Iranian Nuclear Devastation talks.

You're on a roll.

Mahmoud Ahjmadenijad
(Call me Mah-Mee, bee-otch)

dasboot| 10.5.09 @ 10:58AM

Everyone has it all wrong. Obama lost his Olympic bid because of racism. That's the reason behind any and all of his failures.

Oldefarte| 10.5.09 @ 11:10AM

Who cares about the Olympics----they would be a waste of time and money for not only Chicago, but the US as well. With the economic/financial problems that this country now faces [thanks to Democrats and their welfare/government schemes/bailouts]; the MORON-IN-CHIEF should be concerning himself with the deficit, the debt, the Iranians, the North Koreans, and the economy instead of having a bunch of foreigners to come visit his Chicago Southside neighborhood and his pals Richard, Jeremiah and Tony [oh, geez, I forgot all about Acorn and their corruption involving Barney and Dodd]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rmm| 10.5.09 @ 12:00PM

Back in the day among us car-heads there was a saying ' all show and no go' which paraphrases Obamanous to a t. This polished stooge is a glorified mouth piece for some insidious powers behind the throne.

Michael L. Hauschild| 10.5.09 @ 7:15PM

Rmm,
My favorite "show" were the Lake Pipes that consisted of just stubs bolted to the frame and not hooked to anything.

Gazinya| 10.5.09 @ 12:12PM

My idea of a political conservative is how far back in their life did they form conservative ideas? How far back did they live up to those "core values"? Mitt is too new to this movement to be trusted. Like O'Rielly he can be bought. There are too many 'burning bush' conversions in the Republican party for me to trust them. Huckabee is another. He can be bought. He apparently was not too conservative to raise taxes and pardon criminals. Why would a minister, called by God to preach the Word, change to be a politian who taxes the overtaxed? McCain and his trumpeters? Well enough of these wannabees.

The Palin family is right out of Norman Rockwell. I have read about Todd and Sarah and how they grew up. Todd has shown a real distrust for this government and the people who call themselves, patriots. Sarah has only grown into the person she is, not morphed into it to win anything except the trust of her family. Who, that call themselves conservative, cannot see how few and how precious these people are among us?

Margie| 10.5.09 @ 2:24PM

That was so lovely, Gazinya! Sarah Palin is what we call "The Genuine Article." Anyone who is a true conservative knows another true one when we see them. The "intellectuals" are too busy trying to figure out. But fail to see the simple truth. In fact, they don't like the simple truth. Come on, intellectuals, get smart. Listen to your conservative base. Do you really want to lose another election to Obama? Because if you keep ignoring Sarah Palin that is what's going to happen.

Jamie Shafer| 10.5.09 @ 2:26PM

"Gazinya, thanks for your beautiful two paragraphs:

"My idea of a political conservative is how far back in their life did they form conservative ideas? How far back did they live up to those "core values"? These words of yours moved me more than almost anything I have read for days - so simple and so true. We need people we can trust to do the right thing, which is also a simple concept.

Becky| 10.5.09 @ 12:32PM

One would hope Romney would have recused himself as an act of integrity.

Obama is looking a little tragic, like Hillary being surprised by Bill's little intern affair. The difference is Hillary was publically humiliated by her husband. Obama was humiliated by multiple entities and it is a humiliation that he earned, whereas Hillary didn't (entirely).

Obama shouldn't and probably won't be as sympathetic person, for he also drug the US into this fiasco.

Johanna Lapp| 10.5.09 @ 12:52PM

If the taint of Bush is the reason the world voted Chicago DEAD LAST in 2009, how do you explain the New York bid finishing higher in 2005, at the height of Bush's imperialistic war crimes?

RoadKen| 10.5.09 @ 12:59PM

What the American people need to know is if this arrogant 0bama Marxist charactor is going to show his birth certificate, what's the deal? If any of us apply for employment, we have to give up our life history and pee in a cup. If he has one, okay. If not, we need to vacate him from the White House, this is why our framers of the Constitution put that very important requirement in it. His mother is a natural born American, his father is Kenyan, if read correctly, both parents are to be natural born citizens. We have the right to know who is ruining I mean running or beloved Country. Most people are ignoring this, and allowing him to continue to evade the issue! Give it up.

oldster| 10.5.09 @ 1:13PM

You guys at AmSpec and NRO need to put down your knitting and look out the window once in awhile. The awakened giant has no interest in a wooden Indian like Mitt Romney. We want a reformer.

Philip| 10.5.09 @ 3:17PM

Thesis is correct. Paper bag wins. Did you actually listen to the drivel spewing from Obama and wife? Was there anything there other than, "it really is all about us and our wants?" If Chicago had any chance, it was killed by these two narcissists. I was amused by the IOC presenting Obama a diploma. "Here's your little token. Now exit swiftly please." Where is that diploma now? In Michelle's trophy case?

If Obama had "won" the Olympics for Chicago, the only way they could have turned a profit is if they Hired Mitt Romney to run it...he turned a multi-hundred-million dollar loss into $101,000,000 profit in the Salt Lake Olympics. We could use his business skills running the show!

Mitt 2012!

Michael L. Hauschild| 10.5.09 @ 7:19PM

How about the $40,000,000 million (thats forty million dollars) he spent to come in behind McCain (and Obama). You bet, lets put that dunce in charge of our money.

Bydand76| 10.5.09 @ 6:21PM

"Does anybody seriously doubt that Mitt Romney, Obama's most likely Republican challenger in 2012"

This is unadulterated Male Bovine Fecal Matter,
I seriously doubt if anyone will give Mr Romney another chance. He was a long shot in an other wise weak field of candidates the last time around.

If the Republican party can manage to convince someone like Sarah Palin, Gen Petraeus, Michelle Bachman, Bobby Jindal or anyone else of that ilk then I think that you will see a resurgence of conservative voters flock back to the party.
If we get more mealy mouth, no spine, moderate pukes who will just continue to vote for themselves, then you will continue to see the Republican party to continue to splinter and fracture.

Who cares about the justified critisism of the President. As far as I can see he is reaping what he sowed. If he is getting beat up for it well, Boo Freakin Hoo for him! Welcome to the Big Show Mr and Mrs. Obama. Enjoy!

gene hauber| 10.5.09 @ 6:49PM

not wanting to sound redolent, but I cannot feel sorry for anyone who voted for this bag of shit we call obama. I saw him coming from a long way off last year.
I am just sorry that youall outnumbered US in November. DON'T GLOAT, CAUSE YOU ALL ARE IN FOR A SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST SHITSTORM, THE LIKES YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN.

EXCEPT for what happened in November, this enemy of the state, our president, could have only been installed by force by an enemy victory which would make him the object of a determined assassination effort to rid this country of him or at least kidnap him and send him with a one-way ticket to any enemy country of ours.
LET'S WAKE UP AMERICA...........THIS IS NOT OBAMA LAND...IT IS AMERICA.
HE WANT'S TO TURN IT INTO SOME SHITHOLE....
DON'T LET HIM....YOUR KIDS REALLY WON'T LIKE IT.

Jeremy Lott | 10.5.09 @ 9:54PM

I hate to stick up for Obama but, Don't call our president a bag of shit. It's just rude.

Phillip Bagocheet| 10.7.09 @ 7:49PM

I agree with you, Mr. Lott. Absolutely! As a bag of shit myself, I feel very offended by these off-handed, careless, and insensitive remarks that compare me and my fellow bags-o-shit to Obama. We have been compared to Ayatollahs and assholas, but never, never have we been slighted in this way, calling us "Obama"! I am shocked, just shocked.

You think that people would have more tolerance for us bags of shit in this modern day and age. Some of my cohorts have even come out of the closet, so to speak, and admitted that we set ourselves on fire and rang your doorbell. That's right - it was not the vindictive kid next door. Take that, you insensitive meanies!

Christopher Holland| 10.5.09 @ 11:11PM

Obama always was a jerk - he talked nonsense, he never ran so much as a lemonade stand and all he did in the legislature is vote 'present'. His record of achievement is tissue thin. He can hardly swim but somehow people convinced themselves he was the messiah and can walk on water. There sure are a lot of stupid people out there. Now they know the hard way what happens when wishful thinking runs head first into reality. Obama is going to beat James Buchanan as the worst President.

victor| 10.6.09 @ 8:05PM

That dubious honor already belongs to another James:
James Earl Carter.
Former (thankfully) Ex President
Nobel Prize Whiner
and The Golden Hammer Award from Popular Mechanics
Obama combines the corruption of Bill Clinton with the incompetence of Jimmy Carter.
Truly he has a lock on the Worst Place seat.
PS as far as walking on water is concerned, he really excels at drowning.

Re: "What the American people need to know is if this arrogant 0bama Marxist charactor is going to show his birth certificate, what's the deal?"

The deal is that Obama has already posted, and shown to both FactCheck and Polifact, the official birth certificate of Hawaii. The Certification of Live Birth is the official birth certificate of Hawaii, and it is the only one that Hawaii currently sends out (http://www.starbulletin.com/columnists/kokualine/20090606_kokua_line.html.) And the facts on it, that Obama was born in Hawaii, were confirmed twice by the officials in Hawaii (http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/11/obama_hawaaianborn_citizen_for.html)
