It wasn’t out of a need for racial healing that President
Barack Obama reached out to his old friend,
Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and
Cambridge Police Sgt. James Crowley.
“We were looking at House hearings on the matter moving fairly quickly, and that wasn’t going to be good for us or for Gates,” says a White House source. “We needed this thing to go away and go away fast.”
Early Friday, the White House got wind of Rep. Edolphus Towns’ interest in holding hearings into the matter of Gates’ arrest, and more broadly looking into the issue of racial profiling by law enforcement. Towns is chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, as well as the senior House Democratic Member of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Adding to the desire to get the story buried was the media’s seeming refusal to let the story drop. By noon Friday, House press secretary Robert Gibbs, along with other senior White House officials, recommended that Obama either walk back his statement further than he did on Thursday, or take proactive action.
“The President chose action, in part because we saw this story eclipsing other issues and narratives that we needed front and center for August,” says the White House source. “We didn’t need House hearings keeping the story alive into August and then into the fall, when the hearings most likely would have been held. We have more important issues to deal with than this.”

Republicans on Capitol Hill are taking a fresh look at one of the
seedier Chicago stories from Barack and Michelle Obama’s past in
ratcheting up the debate on Obamacare: the University of Chicago
Hospital’s “Urban Health Initiative,” which Michelle
Obama ran prior to her taking a leave of absence to
campaign with her husband in 2007.
Because of the medical center’s location on the South Side of Chicago, a large number of indigent patients, without health insurance, were using the hospital’s emergency room for care. The nonprofit hospital, which in 2007 made more than $100 million in profits, largely because its beds and facilities were used by paying patients and those fully insured, paid Mrs. Obama to oversee the Urban Health Initiative program that identified indigent patients and then steered them to other area medical facilities. In fact, some of those profits came from Canadian citizens who traveled to the U.S. for medical procedures they could not get due to Canada’s restrictive national health care programs.
It wasn’t just Obama’s wife who was involved in creating the program. Senior White House adviser and political strategist, David Axelrod, and his PR firm in Chicago were retained to develop a media campaign to encourage area residents not to use University of Chicago as a medical facility. Senior White House official, and Obama friend, Valerie Jarrett served on the board of directors of the hospital and approved the plan for the Urban Health Initiative, and the hiring of Axelrod. And on the recommendation of then Senator Obama, Dr. Eric Whitaker, was named director of the Initiative in late 2007, after serving as the director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, a job he got after Obama recommended him to then Gov. Rod Blagojevich via another Obama crony, Tony Rezko, a fund-raiser for Obama and now a convicted felon on federal corruption charges.
Candidate Obama thought enough of the program to tout it as an example of how health care reform should be done. When asked about the program during the 2008 presidential campaign, Ben LaBolt, a campaign spokesman, said, “Senator Obama sees community health centers as a vital part of efforts to invest in prevention and reduce costs.”
But as more reporters focused on Mrs. Obama’s health care initiative, the campaign started to backtrack, particularly when local Chicago ward bosses started making claims that Mrs. Obama’s program was nothing more than “patient dumping.”
In February 2009, the program took another hit, when the president of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Nick Jouriles, said, “The medical center is reducing emergency care access to its local community, while at the same time, opening a ‘side door’ to a ‘specialty intake area’ to provide emergency care to medical center private patients. This is a dangerous precedent that could have catastrophic effects in poor neighborhoods across the country.”
That statement came after local news reports highlighted the story of Dontae Adams, young Medicaid patient who was rushed to University of Chicago Hospital after a pit bull attack, was treated with painkillers and a tetanus shot, but then was refused admission for surgery. Adams’ mother was forced to take him on an hour-long bus ride to another hospital for the facial surgery.
Then-Senator Obama took some flack back in 2007 for attempting to get a $1 million earmark cleared through the Senate for his wife’s hospital. Ultimately, that earmark was not approved.

While the U.S. State Department has not asked for the assistance,
some global public relations and advertising firms are doing
their part to help the Obama Administration succeed overseas.
According to sources inside DDB Worldwide, one
of the world’s most prestigious advertising and PR firms, some
executives have prepared recommended talking points and a
suggested image campaign for incoming Obama Administration U.S
ambassadors and counsel generals, particularly in Europe and
Asia.
One of the recommendations, according to sources: American officials shouldn’t identify themselves as representatives of the United States. Rather, to build on his personal popularity abroad, they should identify themselves as a “representative of President Barack Obama.”
DDB, according to the source, was not solicited by the government to undertake the PR effort. Rather, it was done by a few employees supportive of the Obama Administration. Senior DDB executives, however, have made fairly public efforts to tout the Obama Administration overseas. In May, DDB CEO Chuck Brymer and DDB CCO Bob Scarpelli invited senior Obama political adviser David Plouffe to speak at the firm’s conference during the Cannes film festival.

Edolphus Towns joins the long list of race baiters. Like DeKalb County, Georgia's HANK JOHNSON, whose first comment on the health insurance destruction process is that the Blue Dog Democrats are all white men.
But consider this. Hank Johnson took the same seat once held by wacko Cynthia McKinney: you know, the woman who always pushed her way up front at State of the Union addresses so she could kiss Bush on the cheek, punches Capitol police, gets arrested by Israeli military for being on boats, and a candidate-in-waiting for the Green Party when her own Democrat party finally had enough of her. Hank Johnson is of the same cloth as Cynthia McKinney. He sees race first because it is all he has to offer.
These Blue Dogs are worthless except for the short diversion they offer. Jim Marshall of Macon GA is another example. He sign TARP without reading it. That's all anyone needs to know. Jim Marshall was a plant by the Democrats to win that district's congressional race: he is ex military and pro 2nd Amendment. But it ends there, people.
Wait and see, these Blue Dogs will turn tail and vote along party line once you feed themsome cheap meatless bones.

Obama's healthcare system will be run the same way he wants to run the public school system. He spends almost sixty grand a year educating his two young daughters at private schools, and eliminates vouchers for D.C. schoolchildren. Hell, the guy is bothered more by American kids with vouchers than the mullahs with the nuclear bomb. This is the future of Obamacare.

On the Gates matter, if Obama would have kept his mouth shut, it would have died. But then again, in view of Gates' supposed crock-umentary on race and police, all of this may have well been staged to create a market for it....

#54 should have read "after he requested a $1,000,000 grant for the hospital where his wife worked." In fact, if you check her salary, it went up 160% that year.

Michelle Obama worked for the University of Chicago for years--even before her husband Barack decided to run for the United States Senate. Apparently, she did a really good job (source on these wages is Obama tax returns):

2004: $121,910 (89.6% raise)
2005: $316,962 (159.9% raise)

As a result, The House gained a lot of votes, a lot of people who were withholding support.
The federal Medicare program insures some 44 million elderly and disabled Americans at an annual cost of $450 billion, almost one-fifth of total U.S. health care spending.

The Times in a July 7 editorial argued “As much as 30 percent of all health-care spending in the U.S. -some $700 billion a year- may be wasted on tests and treatments that do not improve the health of the recipients,” Thus the remaining $239 billions over a decade do not matter.
No one can disagree with this best outcome / evidence-based system, and private insurance, too, will be greatly influenced by this change with the focus on value over volume. !
Dr. Armadio at Mayo clinic says, "If we got rid of that stuff, we save a third of all that we spend and that is 2.5 trillion dollars on health care. A third of that and that is 700 billion dollars a year. That covers a lot of uninsured people."

I remember hearing about U of C's ER program when it came out. There are plenty of hospitals and urgent care clinics on the south side of Chicago who can tend to a medicaid patient's throbbing toe. An indigent person with a genuine emergency will not be turned away. Is there any reason why bed space (and emergency room space) in one of our nations premiere hospitals should be used to treat mundane and picayune ailments when there are other options suitable for those health needs? U of C hospital is in the same class as Mayo and Cleveland clinics, when a patient is airlifted from where I work in Lake County, IN it will be a genuine emergency and that patient shouldn't have to wait behind someone on medicaid using the ER like a doctor's office.

As with their cousin maniac, the garden variety fire pyromaniac, the raceomaniac has an exact pathology that is hard to determine. Most such maniacs lack conscious motivation although they are fully aware of the acts they are encouraging or that they themselves are committing. Typically they will feel intense pleasure, gratification, or relief when causing destruction or when witnessing or participating in the aftermath. Some research suggests that feeling such joy at such situations is pathological. However other research suggests that some motivation for this comes from rational thought. Taking joy in destructive acts for envisioned gains in political power and/or the concealment of the imposition of devious plans are examples of presumed rational decision making. For Professor Gates a reasonable working hypothesis would be 50% pathological and 50% rational. For President Obama a reasonable working hypothesis would be 25% pathological and 75% rational. Further study is needed but in the mean time I would strongly recommend that both Professor Gates and especially President Obama be kept under strict psychiatric supervision preferably in a well staffed and secure facility.

What is the first question you would ask the officer?

Folks I just got here but want to add some prime info for you to read if you want scary details on Obama & Czars plans to save money by "deathcare" instead of health care for the Boomers, while covering the younger illegal worker bees.. There are 3 articles I read in respectable publications that EVERYONE should read before making up your mind.
1) Find article "Deadly Doctors" in NY Post on 7/24, and read every word so the deathcare is clear: no need for Boomers rights. Goodbye if you aren't "useful"; Rahm Emanuel's DR brother on the so-called Health Board. Terrible news. This article has quotes about how spoiled we Americans are according to Dr Emanuel. These are Jews who should know better (from Israel)
2) Go to Hudson Institute and read Dr Betsy McCaughey's articles; she is listed under "scholars" section at the top of page. She has details & page numbers with many undesirable features of the Kennedy bill that Dodd introduced. Also read her other articles, one titled "Obama's Voodoo Health Care Economics" is great. How's that budget busting "stimulus" working for YOU? I got nothing.
3) Huffington Post (honestly I hardly believed it) had a great set of both questions and better suggestions for Obama's "ruling class" on the features of the House's bill. This appeared on 7/22, by Henryk Kowalcsyk. There are much better targeted fixes than this total replacement system that Obama Gang wants to install, but they'll all be exempt from, while creating another massive federal bureaucracy, also exempt from the kind of decisions they'll be making for us!

Chairman Obama wants to ram his gargantuan healthcare bill down our throats before anyone realizes what's in it. What doesn't he want us to see? Some examples, from a quick inventory by Family Security Matters:
Pg 22 of the HC Bill mandates the Government will audit books of all employers that self insure.
Pg 30 Sec 123 of HC bill — a Government committee (good luck with that!) will decide what treatments/benefits a person may receive.
Pg 29 lines 4-16 in the HC bill — YOUR HEALTHCARE WILL BE RATIONED!
Pg 42 of HC Bill — The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC Benefits for you.
PG 50 Section 152 in HC bill — HC will be provided to ALL non US citizens, illegal or otherwise.
Pg 58 HC Bill — Government will have real-time access to individual's finances and a National ID Healthcard will be issued!

This bill would drive unemployment, taxes, and the deficit through the stratosphere. It would turn hospitals into the paper mills, dramatically reduce your access to healthcare, let bureaucratic creeps decide when it's time to die, and guarantee that no one in his right mind goes to medical school. As for the damage this would do to individual liberty — let's just say that any doubts about the Moonbat Messiah being a socialist have been put to rest.
If this nightmare bill isn't Obama's Waterloo, then it's America's. Pass this on to everyone you know!
