The so-called Commission on Accountability which mysteriously
appeared on the political scene a few days ago to push for show
trials related to War on Terror interrogation policies is a PR
hoax created by liberal philanthropist George Soros and political
operatives sympathetic to the Obama administration.
The push is part of a vindictive campaign to pay back the
architects of the War on Terror for making a good faith effort to
defend America
To some the arrival of the Commission on Accountability, with its
19 member groups including Amnesty International USA and Human
Rights Watch, suggested a significant groundswell of support in
the nonprofit activist community for the proposed creation of an
independent, non-partisan commission to examine the treatment of
captured suspected terrorists. These groups all want Bush
administration officials investigated for doing their jobs.
But the Napoleonic plotter Charles Maurice de Talleyrand’s
eternal aphorism that treason is a matter of dates is not lost on
today’s left, which, having recaptured the White House and
Congress, now wants to pay back the architects of the War on
Terror for daring to defend America from Islamist totalitarians.
Alas, this spanking new David Axelrod-style astroturf group was
manufactured by Soros himself and Obama loyalists.
The proof was surprisingly easy to find.
That’s because the domain name
registration record for the group’s website indicates near
the bottom that the site was reserved for George Soros. It also
indicates it was registered by Blue State Digital, LLC.
A BusinessWeek
profile in June of last year identified Soros as a Blue State
Digital client since 2006 and called the firm then-candidate
Obama’s “secret weapon.” The firm was described as “a market
research-New Media hybrid that has played an instrumental role in
fostering Obamamania.” Although the Obama campaign refused to
discuss the firm for the article, Blue State Digital boasted that
“its handiwork and technology can be seen in the more than $200
million Obama has raised online, the 2 million phone calls made
on the candidate’s behalf, and in barackobama.com’s social
network of 850,000 users, who have organized 50,000 campaign
events.”
The profile also noted that the firm was founded in 2004 by four
former members of Howard Dean’s presidential campaign. “But
Thomas Gensemer, a former venture capitalist who, at 31, is now
Blue State’s managing partner, says he and his associates wanted
to use such tools to mobilize grassroots support for progressive
candidates, causes, or products,” the profile states.
Blue State Digital was “tightly entwined with the campaign,”
BusinessWeek reported. “Joe Rospars, a 27-year-old
partner, attends all of the Obama campaign’ senior staff
meetings, says Gensemer. Campaign insiders suggest privately that
Blue State has so impressed Obama that, if he wins in November,
the company could be in the unique position to play a role inside
the White House.”
Indeed.
Moreover, at least eight of the 19 left-leaning institutional
members of the Commission on
Accountability are funded by the secretive Soros.
One is Soros’s foundation, the Open Society Institute, which has
given away more than $5 billion over the years to various
left-wing causes. The Open Society Institute has given money to
seven of the Commission members. They are the Carter Center
($256,834 in 2000), the Constitution Project ($840,883 since
2001), Human Rights First ($445,000 since 2003), Human Rights
Watch ($4,013,690 since 2000), Jewish Council for Public Affairs
($110,000 in 2005), National Institute of Military Justice
($255,000 since 2005), and Physicians for Human Rights
($1,224,153 since 1999).
The creation of the Commission on Accountability dovetailed
nicely with President Obama’s indication last week that he is
open to the possibility of pursuing probes of Bush administration
officials for the use of enhanced interrogation techniques.
According to a report from Byron York of the Washington
Examiner, Soros joined with MoveOn, which he funds
generously, to urge the creation of “a commission of inquiry to
examine and report publicly on America’s use of torture in the
period since September 11, 2001.”

Soros is a patriot. I'm not surprised to hear that he's behind this initiative to bring the Bush criminals to justice. If they broke the law, they will be found guilty.

How is this man who is publicly speaking against the American government and trading against the good of the American people allowed to influence the laws of this land too. Oh yes, pay for play politics, where anyone can grow up to corrupt the American system.
Andrew P| 4.28.09 @ 8:57AM
There will be show trials. They are unavoidable. If Obama (Holder) does not appoint a special prosecutor, a Federal Judge will do it, probably as an outgrowth of a civil case. The only way Obama could stop the process is to issue pardons, and he won't.
MasterBlaster| 4.28.09 @ 8:57AM
Bill Clinton made the problem bigger for himself than it should have been. He lied. Remember him wagging his finger and saying he did not have sex with that woman, Ms Lewinsky? That said, and even though he did attempt to have Monica sign a false affidavit, the impeachment was a waste of time......he was politically damaged already. The reckless life he led created its own problem for him.
The article here raises a great question: Is Obama really about post-partisan politics? Apparently not. The Bush administration did not engage in any witch hunts on Dems that I recall and really did attempt to cool the partisan situation. But I suppose the anger from impeachment and a perceived stolen election was not to be denied and that anger lives on.
I'm convinced that government and politics is filled with back-benchers and third and fourth stringers that would not be wanted in the private sector.
jim rice| 4.28.09 @ 9:06AM
This is ridiculous...
"These groups all want Bush administration officials investigated for doing their jobs."
Close... they need to be investigated for doing their jobs poorly and in a way that endangered millions of lives and lost thousands more.
"And it must be noted that in America, we resolve policy differences through elections. We don't use the legal system after officials have left office to prosecute them for doing their jobs. We do not criminalize policy differences in America."
More of the same... they wouldn't be prosecuted for doing their jobs. We wouldn't be criminalizing anything that wasn't a crime before.
The American people were lied to, people were tortured, officials (most especially dick cheney who, in my opinion, deserves to rot in Chinese prison for the rest of his miserable life) far overstepped the limits of their power...
The former administration was drunk on power and cared nothing for the law. And, perhaps, a trial would exonerate the top officials as simply buffoons instead of criminals. If so, then so be it. As Joshu says, "If they broke the law, they will be found guilty." I'm willing to allow the "IF" in there, but I certainly feel like someone raped this country, and the American people deserve to know who and why, and those people deserve to be punished.
And, holy crap, Dave is right. If the Republicans feel like they could impeach Clinton for getting his dick sucked and lying about it, it certainly seems like george bush and his cronies should have been put to trial YEARS ago.

one question re: george soros - what's in it for him?
Tim T.| 4.28.09 @ 9:24AM
David Matthews, here's the problem. If it ever came to a trial of these officials, how can we be assured that it won't be run by people like you?
That's one of Vadum's points. This wouldn't be a dispassionate, objective evaluation of the facts. It *would* be a rage-driven show trial, with a predetermined conclusion. Which *is* like a banana republic.
Bush officials cannot get a fair trial in the current political climate. If Soros really was a patriot (as Joshu Jones asserted), he would agree as well.

>Close... they need to be investigated for doing their jobs poorly and in a way that endangered millions of lives and lost thousands more.
First of all, we don't "investigate" government officials when they do their jobs poorly. Doing your job poorly or clumsily, like Barack Obama is doing, is not a crime. Tax evasion is - just so you know, but it doesn't seem to bother you or other Democrats for some reason.
Furthermore, I ask you do you remember that attack on LA's Library Tower that Kalid Sheik Mohammed let slip after a waterboarding session?
I sure wish we had a few more thousand dead and injured just so the liberals in this country could sleep on their soft pillow at night knowing that we didn't even dump water on a terrorists head to stop it.
Do you regret that waterboarding stopped an attack on an LA skyscraper?
Remember that attack? Neither do I, because it didn't happen.
By contrast, Obama's brilliant, flawless operation yesterday buzzed downtown NYC like they thought they were in Top Gun (and of course, he had NO IDEA what was happening like he did during the Tea Parties), and not a peep from the same people here whining about "endangering lives."
Crawl back to your Soros-backed web sewers and re-up on the leftwing talking points.
And be sure to remind Speaker Pelosi (D) that she signed off on everything you're complaining about - multiple times.
Think you can handle it?

If there is a "trial" it will follow the usual pattern -grandstanding by the inquisitors, public sentiment moving toward the accused, procedures limping to a finish, conflicting majority and minority conclusions published.
These things don't work (the only one that did was Watergate, and that's because it was bipartisan). It will galvanize the faithful on both sides, and move the middle toward the right: they will be able to smell a patisan witchhunt easily enough.

Since then, the hook-nosed pig has turned in his beloved Mein Kampf for his equally beloved Koran, crawling on his urine-stained yarmulke in servitute to his Muslim heros. The hook-nosed Soros was convicted for insider trading in France, and has effused that the depression has been good for him. This evil parasite and his minions will be on the receiving end of America's rage and bullets when the next attack by his Muslim cohorts occurs. Note that 58% don't want any such 'commission', which is a landslide opposition, far more a landslide than the few points by which Obama won the election. If there are to be trials, it is Soros, MoveOn, Huffington, Kos, Center for Contitutional Rights, and every self-proclaimed 'human rights' Marxist/Muslim/Nazi adherents who belong in the dock, for their transparent acts of Treason.

Tim T has a pretty good point.
Or question...
Is it really even possible for these people to receive a fair trial now?
Maybe not... but I'd still like to think that cooler heads could prevail in the midst of a sanctioned trial.
This is just a stupid message board that breeds partisanship and hatred. A place where opinions are king. I can easily put my biases behind and look at facts as presented.
But the question here is very rarely, "Did we break laws?" It's, "Can we justify why we broke laws?" And no, no you can't. Those are arguments for message boards - not the court system. I think we could easily prove that existing laws were broken. If we cannot, everyone is still innocent until proven guilty, and I'm fine with that. Hell, OJ's still on the lose... cheney has a chance! ;)
And yes, I would rather not have had the information gained from torture. If the attack happened, it happened. At least we could hold our heads high and say that we remained on the moral high ground. Our stupid little individual lives on this planet are worthless. The best thing you can do with it is live it out to the highest moral standard you can. If lives are martyred due to the moral ineptitude of others, at least allow the victims the dignity of having died supporting the right side of the moral line.

If we're going to have Stalinist show trials, let's go all the way here and prosecute the REAL criminals. Can we start with Bill Clinton, who had bin Laden offered to him, but would not take him into custody because " I could not find any legal pretense to detain him". (actual quote). Oh, and let's not forget that Clinton was in receipt of a Dec 4, 1998 Presidential Daily Briefing, (remember the one used against Bush) warning of bin Laden's plan to hijack planes and use them. (From the 9/11 report) Then let's move on to Clinton's CIA director, George Tenet who said WMDs were a "slam dunk". Of course so did, Clinton, Gore, the UN and a gaggle of Democrats. And let's not forget the twins of disaster, Janet Reno and Jamie "the wall" Gorelick, also of Fannie Mae big money fame, who deliberately blinded our intelligence community as to 9/11. And what of Pelosi's convenient memory on the use of water-boarding? Let's put all these folks under oath, and then try them for treason. Yes, by all means, let the trials begin and let's also bring back public hangings, including George Soros, as guest traitor.

I am so sick of the left's mantra of the "Bush War Crimes." W/t/f ever happened to the presumption of innocence--these brash assertions are nonsense and purely poisonous. The terrorists in question were non-state actors engaging in lawless acts; why do we willingly succumb to the jihadis desire that we accord them all the same protections of a nationally organized and commanded armed force? Further, there's no consensus that the measures employed did in fact constitute torture. I see no reason why the Geneva Conventions should apply, or why we are in a rush to embrace Islamist radicals. The left has been shockingly, appallingly willing to leave off condemnations of terrorists and their methods, in favor of attacking honorable Americans, as if the two are even remotely in the same league. Sorry, but you know what, Nancy Pelosi's Congress doesn't make me feel a whit safer; I fear another attack is inevitable because of the Congress' paralyzing inaction and our seeming national inability to recognize a clear and present danger.

Actually this is more the point.
Yes it is a full and complete, without any doubt a declaration of political war. Political war to the complete and absolute destruction.
Scorched earth doesn't describe it.
You see. This As David Mathews points out ...
"Eh ... isn't this the same political party that sought to have Bill Clinton impeached for a blow job? "
This is NOT about justice. Or right/wrong.
It is about Clinton getting impeached.
It is PAYBACK. And the progressive left wants us to know payback is a bitch.
Well except ... we are not supposed to give payback to THEM.
And there is the problem.
My advice to President Obama would be simple.
Call in all his staff, appointees, and cabinet and tell them
"We can no longer trust the American people to decide what is in their best interests. If they choose to vote in Republicans then two things will happen.
First we will all end up in jail as payback for our payback.
Second, everything we passed via the budget reconciliation process will be cancelled within a week. No filibuster allowed. By that very same budget reconciliation process. And if you don't think a newly empowered Republican party would hesitate to cancel Universal Health Care overnight? You are nuts. They know it will be two years before the American people can do anything about it.
Therefore, I must ask you to figure out how to either take away the right of citizens to vote. Or to make it so only the Democratic Party is ever again listed on a ballot.
Ladies and gentlemen. We have a mission, and a calling, and we can no longer TRUST the American people to not repeat 2004."
CJ| 4.28.09 @ 10:52AM

George Soros is an evil man. Soros is far from a patriot.

Chad, they think we are all safe now...here is an arrogant Obama quote for you - see if you feel safe. “I think that it is important for Europe to understand that even though I’m now president and George Bush is no longer president, al-Qaeda is still a threat. We cannot pretend somehow that because Barack Hussein Obama got elected as president, suddenly everything is going to be okay.” Stunning arrogance, but you can read between the lines that he (and his sheep) does in fact believe that we are all safer now because he is president. I am glad I don't live near a major city.

George Soros has been trying to buy the U.S. presidency for many years.....he finally got his pay off with Obama. It is quite obvious that Obama is clueless. His policies are all dictated to him by Soros and the dems in congress. Obama has already gotten what he wanted...the title of "First Black President". At this point the rest of his term will be served from the back seat. Soros will be driving for the next 3 1/2 years and we are only at the beginning of the socialist agenda Soros has in store for America. Soros has Obama fast tracking all of his plans as quickly as possible in order to make sure they can change as much as possible in only 4 years. Soros and the Dems know the American people will eventually wake up and begin to oppose these changes. But Old George is willing to sacrifice Obama's re-election chances in order to get his Socialist agenda implemented. The Tarp bills were basically payoffs for all his minions (yes Bush was an idiot for caving in to Dem pressure to approve tarp1). Now they are fat with operating capitol for the next decade. And were are the "truthers" lately? What if Barney Frank and company orchestrated the failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to coincide with Obama's presidency. The timing is a bit suspect. Especially since nothing has ever been done to investigate the largest financial crisis in modern US history. Where are the federal investigators on this issue...oh... that's right...they are tied up with trying to determine whether we were too mean to people trying to kill us. Soros was indicted in the UK for manipulating currency. Gee, does this ring any bells? He's also been outspoken about his desire to see America as a socialist state. He has money, he uses it to fund leftist causes such as the World Workers Party, a communist front. Likewise, he has friends in China, the Middle East and Asia who could be easily called in to withdraw cash from American corporations with the specific intent of shaping the battle field before the election. Once again, does this sound familiar? He has heavily funded left wing groups that have indulged in a page right out of Marx with disinformation spread through the media but sourced at places such as Moveon.org, Daily Kos, etc. Once again does this sound familiar? I truly think all of the missteps we are seeing in the POTUS is due to the attempt to manipulate the office and the Congress and the Press to create a specific outcome. Consider this-we were militarily attacked on 9/11, but the case could be made that we were economically attacked last summer from outside funding. Soros is not American, he can't run for office here. But he can sure buy a likely puppet to do his will.
BTW, since now there is speculation that the swine flu outbreak from Mexico will be renamed "North American Flu" to avoid hurt feelings, what do you want to make a bet that the market plummets again. Who will pick up American corporations for pennies on the dollar? There is more to this than meets the eye. Why would you want your enemies to know your interogation tactics? That gives them a chance to train to overcome them. The scenario we are headed for is that the US will no longer have an effective process for extracting crucial information from our enemies during a time of war. But hey...who cares as long as the liberals are happy right! Based on the way the Obama administration wants to punish the military and CIA we will no longer be able to gain the information we will need to stop another attack. So I guess we can all look forward to that. And when that attack happens I want Jan, Rakehell and all the other liberals to meet with the relatives of the victims and explain to them how at least they died with high morals. I can't help but wonder if the attitudes of the liberals in this country would change if the next attack were to hit say...Berkley or San Francisco. Don't be ridiculous. Torture is against the law. But what constitutes torture is a matter of policy. Bush's lawyers spent thousands of hours, and millions of dollars to meticulously detail what is allowable for our field agents. They even invited the Democratic Minority at the time to be briefed by the DDO on what exactly techniques they were using. I am sure the minutes to the oversight meetings are recorded, and barring a Sandy Berger Moment, I am sure we will all know what House Speaker Pelosi, and Senators Levin, Durbin, and Rockefeller knew, and what thier exact comments were. Former Vice President Cheney as well as former DCI Porter Goss are demanding exactly that.

"Torture is not cool."
Neither is flying planes into occupied buildings and causing THOUSANDS of American deaths.
You want to talk about torture, you first shine a spotlight on what jihadis are doing to their own people and then we can talk. There is simply no comparison between the highly supervised and controlled waterboarding used on a handful of terrorists and actual torture. I agree that we must remain vigilant to uphold high moral standards consistent with American values, but we must also push for ways to level the playing field when those who wish us dead don't play by the rules and who themselves are lawless and act in complete disregard of the law. Are we really faulting the Bush Adminstration for reexamining assumptions, challenging conventional thinking, and seeing if there were ways to be more aggressive in obtaining and exploiting intelligence. This was pushing the boundaries, not a wholesale abandonment of the rule of law like the left would like to portray.
Why is the spotlight not focused on the jihadis where it belongs.

The Soros meeting was held in Scottsdale in April 2005 after President Bush won his second term in late 2004. Soros was reported to have wasted over $20 million on Candidate Kerry, and was somewhat upset.
The meeting's approved agenda included "left-wing think tanks" (?), left-wing leadership selection and cultivation, and left-wing media promotion and development. The Bolshevik Billionaires in attendance pledged $500 million to support left-wing causes and candidates. Where do you think all of Obama's small donations came from, small donors?
I am sure that Soros was gratified, and perhaps surprised, that his investment paid of so quickly. So, now we get to live under the joys of a Marxist regime for the nonce.
It is obvious that Soros is in a race to install a permanent bureaucracy and regime before active opposition forms. Having come this far, he will do anything necessry to preserve his creation.
By continuing to create additional emergencies, he will create the need for additional emergency actions. Expect to see the economy dissolve and be reconstituted with state ownership and fiat money, the dollar becoming essentially worthless (Weimar Republic). He will have a somewhat harder time dealing with an armed citizenry, but he will try, probably by arming and mobilizing groups like ACORN. Gird your loins.

A man in a UAE police uniform is seen on the tape tying the victim's arms and legs, and later holding him down as the Sheikh pours salt on the man's wounds and then drives over him with his Mercedes SUV.
The Sheikh begins by stuffing sand down the man's mouth, as the police officers restrains the victim.
Then he fires bullets from an automatic rifle around him as the man howls incomprehensibly.
At another point on the tape, the Sheikh can be seen telling the cameraman to come closer.
"Get closer. Get closer. Get closer. Let his suffering show," the Sheikh says.
Over the course of the tape, Sheikh Issa acts in an increasingly sadistic manner.
He uses an electric cattle prod against the man's testicles and inserts it in his anus.
At another point, as the man wails in pain, the Sheikh pours lighter fluid on the man's testicles and sets them aflame. "

The lawyers were incompetent as the law was already well established:
"Earlier in 1901, the United States had taken a similar stand against water boarding during the Spanish-American War when an Army major was sentenced to 10 years of hard labor for water boarding an insurgent in the Philippines."
Several others, including at least 2 generals, were also tried and found guilty. The Generals got a slap on the wrist.
"Water boarding was designated as illegal by U.S. generals in Vietnam 40 years ago. A photograph that appeared in The Washington Post of a U.S. soldier involved in water boarding a North Vietnamese prisoner in 1968 led to that soldier's severe punishment. "
"Torture is defined under the federal criminal code as the intentional infliction of severe mental pain or suffering," said John Sifton, an attorney and researcher with the organization Human Rights Watch. "That would include water boarding."

Rakehell,
Actually, the legality of waterbaording has always been vague. In 2006, Sen. Ted Kennedy proposed an amendment to the Military Commissions Act then under consideration. His measure would finally have brought clarity to the legal status of waterboarding. It would have expressly defined the procedure as a violation of the Geneva Conventions, making it punishable as a war crime.
The amendment lost, mostly along party lines. But the Democrats have been in charge of Congress since January 2007. Since January 2009, they have also held the White House. At any time they wished, they could have revived the Kennedy Amendment, and passed it.
They haven’t done that. For all the high dudgeon, they won’t do it. And the reason for their reticence is shameful: To clarify the law would be to admit that the law has been unclear.

During the last century, Marxists killed roughly 100 million innocent people because these people were opposed to, or in the way of, the Marxists as they went about their business of building Marx's workers' paradise dream.
Now do you really believe that Marxists are suddenly concerned about somebody getting water poured on their face or panties placed on their head? Not a chance.
Getting everyone's attention focused on waterboarding/homosexual marriage/global cooling/whatever is a means to distract attention from two of the biggest unconstitutional actions in the nations' history: Obama's takeover of the banks and takeover of the auto industry.
It is no coincidence that these unconstitutional actions by Obama are in exact accordance with the Communist Manifesto. The Communist Manifesto listed ten items necessary to seize power by Marxists, including:
Item 5. "Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly."
Item 7. "Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan."
So, all these diversions are designed to distract us from the Marxists' goals and actions as they take control of the Republic.

I'm not at all surprised that AmSpec online would be roiled by Leftist trolls. Back in the day, during the 1990s, "The Spectator" was the most high profile magazine engaged in investigative journalism, trying to get to the actual, factual bottom (heh heh) of the Clintonista misdeeds. It was a good read back then. And you can bet that the former Clintonistas reinstalled now as Obamanauts aren't going to get caught with their proverbial pants down again, to get reported on accurately -- so of course they're gonna try to mess with ya.
But if we're going to have "show trials," shouldn't we go back to the heyday of Islamic extremist terrorist attacks that succeeded? That would be the 1990s, on Clinton adminstration watch. From the first WTC attack in 1993, through the Khobar Towers, the African embassies, the USS Cole, and then the major planning for the second WTC assault in 2001, those were big wartime attacks. Former FBI counterterrorism expert John O'Neill knew that Osama bin Laden and his al-Qa'idists pick a target and go after it until they really get it. That's why he quit his FBI job and went to work as WTC security chief -- where he was murdered on 9/11, trying to save the lives of those in his charge for protection.
Seems a long time ago, doesn't it, since Leftist looney tunes Michael Moore was aghast that the 9/11 Islamic extremists actually slaughtered Leftist-appeasers alongside pro-America Americans? Amazingly, to the nuts on the political Left, their domestic political opponents on the Right are taken to be worse threats, merely for disagreeing, than are real murderers plotting to kill as many unsuspecting innocents as possible. But about that picking a target and sticking with it thing -- if you'll recall, Los Angeles was the target for the "Millenium Plot" that was serendipiously foiled by an astute U.S.-Canada border agent. And the enhanced interrogation of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed produced intel that LA was going to be struck. You'd think, kinda like Moore believed, that out of professional courtesy, the Islamic extremist America-haters wouldn't go after the America-haters in Hollywood and LA. But I'd tend to think that the Islamic terrorists feel ashamed when fighting brave people but very much enjoy killing weakling appeasers. We'll see, won't we, if the Islamic extremists keep on trying until LA is in smoldering ruins?

There is a very old saying..."What comes around, goes around". If Pesident Obama goes forward with these prosecutions he may well be kicking himself in the @ss. Once our enemies know they will no longer be required to undergo harsh interrogation all bets are off. We will be attacked again.....and when it happens a truly outraged American public will be looking to President Obama for leadership. What will happen when all we are allowed to do is politely ask for the information we need? It seems to me that there is no logical reason to throw away tools that you might someday desparately need. Maybe we just need to turn over all prisoners to the Iraqis for interrogation. That way we still get the information we need and the liberals can all loudly exclaim that they are above such barbarisms.. The individuals we are fighting are sub-human without compassion or remorse. They do not follow rules or care about the Geneva Convention. Americans are a civilized people and deeply believe in compassion. In a war compassion has it's place but not when it could cost thousands of American lives. We all want our warriors on the wall to fight back our enemies but now you want to tell them how they should fight. Make no mistake...the jihadi goal is world domination. They have said so themselves many times. Soon they will take Pakistan and own the nuclear prize they have sought for so long and that will be a real game changer. Meanwhile we will all sit around being distracted at home by talk of how can America fight a cleaner war. We are giving our enemies everything they need to hurt us really badly. But memories are short in this country so I guess we all should just sit back and wait for the next sucker punch. Of course then everyone will wake up again for perhaps another 2-3 years until we are all convinced that it was our fault....again.

First of all, Clinton was impeached for perjury not a bj.
Second, the Geneva Conventions are being applied. The Geneva Conventions layed out the definition of torture and NONE of our interrogation methods constitute torture. Also the Geneva convention classify al-queda as "unlawful combatants" and makes clear that only those countries that are signators of the Geneva Conventions are afforded their protections.
Holding the terrorists as enemy combatants is in accordance with the Geneva Convention.
Holding them at Gitmo without trials is in accordance with the GC.
Torturing unlawful combatants is in accordance with the GC.
The Geneve Convention made specific the rationale that only signators of the treaty are protected by it. The reasoned this by the fact that a nation, it's people and it's military would be put in grave danger fighting under a set of rules that their enemy wasn't obliged to follow.

1. The phrase "War on Terror" is almost completely meaningless. If it's taken literally, it makes no sense. If it's a metaphor, it's weak and so similar to the failed "War on Drugs" that we'd better hope something better comes along.
2. Prosecutions are only likely if it can be demonstrated that the lawyers who wrote the torture memos acted in bad faith. This seems highly unlikely. Most of this is just froth being generated on crazy websites -- like this one.

By nothing to fear I was talking about the possibility of war on terror related witch hunts that serve no purpose other than the keep the nuts in the far left of the D party happy. If that doesn't scare you then probably nothing will.

To Jim Rice, Joshu Jones and David Matthews,
The three of you constitute a three-headed moron. Mr. Cheney is, quite frankly, the best VP this country has ever had. I sincerely hope your idiotic liberal sensitivities were not damaged by our "torture" of Islamic savages bent on your destruction. The three of you really do need to get out more, perhaps to glean what constitutes torture; for, call me crazy, but waterboarding (part of our SEALS training), loud music, halal food and harsh language really do not constitute torture. You "men" really need to grow up and grow a pair.
I used to not worry about Western civilization and particularly this country. However, after listening to the rantings and ravings of the last few years by such "men" as yourselves, I sometimes wonder if we are not doomed. Only pseudo-intellectuals could say or think things so stupid, not to mention weak and feckless.
I would quote some Churchill to buck you up such as "Arm yourselves and be men of valor" or any of a multitude from the Great Man.
What is the point with you dunderheads? You will never understand anything in this life. Good luck to you as I think you all will need it.
God help us.

Interesting Troll War going on now. Lefties are conducting an organized attack on conservative discussion boards en masse -- there is no forum being left untouched and un-flooded by their nonsense. Are they being paid? Is it part of Obama's Soros-funded activist base, sort of an area denial attack?
"Matt,
The investigation I'd like to see centers around the credit freeze that triggered the October Revolution. Precisely who controlled the moneys that were scrambling away from deposits?"
Absolutely!!

And if Matt Drudge hadn't 'outed' the whole Lewinsky affair, Jonathan Pollard would be a free man today.
The Israelis were tapping Clinton's calls and knew about it.When reporters got word of it (Isakoff), it compromised the operation.
In the Starr Report, Lewinsky says under oath Clinton told her his phone was being tapped...by guess who?
The Israelis came back anyway to get Pollard sprung at the end of Clinton's term, during the 'peace talks'. He didn't do it, because Tenet told him he would quit immediately. It is more likely Israel had nothing of substance on Clinton once the 'lewinsky' story broke.
The greatest story never told

Soros is NOT a patriot! In Oct. 2008 he betted against our dollar, and made out big time! Recently, Hungary just fined him for over a Million for bringing down their economy....
Soros would break the USA on purpose if he gains something, in this case it would be Obama as President, and more money for himself.
Here is what Soros & Henry Kissinger want:
1. a global political system
2. a global tax system
3. a global financial system
And just last month, Kissinger was quoted in a UK newspaper, that he believes he now has Obama's ear on the above.
Soros is a dangerous man to the sovereignty of our Country.

The key point to focus on here is that Obama was elected out of Hate. Hate of Bush. Hate of Conservatives. Hate of Capitalism. Hate worked for Hitler - and It'll work for Soros, er-I-mean Obama. Key is to define groups and divide us into various groups that can Hate each other, thus removing any focus on Rationality - and where Hate comes up short, crisis is useful...
And Conservatives are slow to react because they don't like telling others what to do - as much as they don't like being told what to do... But action is needed, thoughtful action devoid of Hate.

The one thing that is never said about the treatment of these creatures we capture is that they have NO portection under ANY treaty or international law. They are ununiformed fighters with no allegence to a country or goverment; we could sumnarily shoot them. Every one talks about the Geniva Accords and the Law of War, how many have actually read them?
Erik Svane | 4.29.09 @ 11:54AM
"And yes, I would rather not have had the information gained from torture. If the attack happened, it happened. At least we could hold our heads high and say that we remained on the moral high ground. Our stupid little individual lives on this planet are worthless. The best thing you can do with it is live it out to the highest moral standard you can. If lives are martyred due to the moral ineptitude of others, at least allow the victims the dignity of having died supporting the right side of the moral line"
You know what, Jim Rice?! Speak for yourself!! This is why some (many, most) of us would not vote for you, or someone like you (*unless*, of course, you managed to hide your intentions under a lot of verbiage…)
If you want "the dignity of having died supporting" what you claim is "the right side of the moral line", then be my guest. But don't make that decision for anyone else — myself, my loved ones, my (and your?) fellow Americans, including even, say, your own wife or (Wordwolf above had it right) your own daughter.
Your comment illustrates *perfectly* George Orwell's adage, "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night" (and rattle on about peace during the daytime, I might add) "only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
The people that I want in government and in the White House are not the anti-rough men Jim Rices but the "rough men stand ready to do violence on their [our] behalf."
Bravo. Matthew, on another killer article…
Erik Svane| 4.29.09 @ 12:11PM
As for the Geneva Accords, they exist not only to protect prisoners (of war or otherwise), but as great a part of the population as possible — including soldiers in combat and civilians. Preventing soldiers from harming innocent civilians is more likely to happen if their enemies follow the rules not to dress in civilian clothes and not to hide amongst civilians. By the Geneva Rules, "warriors" or "fighters" or whatever who have done that have forfeited their protections under the rules.

Simply Put:
1) Obama is an empty suit - a nobody - picked by (Soros?) the left to "be the man up front" - because he has no real political history (track record). He speaks well with aid of a teleprompter.
2) The Democrats (the political left) know the way to seize and maintain power is to use the "drug" of Government funding (for whatever); to insure they have enough "be-holden voters" to swing the votes their way each election cycle.
3) The rank & file leftist (like the trolls on this forum), are mere "useful idiots" - a term from the cold-war days when the Soviets secretly funded numerous left-leaning groups to advance certain (harmless?) ideals - that put together advanced the Socialist Cause (benefiting the Soviets).
5) What does a guy like Soros' have in all this??? To me, that's the BIG MYSTERY. *(what do you get a "king" who has "everything" for his birthday???)

Anthony at 10:18 a.m., April 28 has the best post. He left out the Church Commission/Carter administration that put on this path and started the show of weakness when Democrats are in power. Peace through strength - not accomodation which all the Democrats have ever offered us. Listen to what Obama says - reach out, fellow human beings, understanding, blah, blah, blah. You can't touch evil - you can only destroy it.

Torture is wrong, but I am absolutely sure that the leftist interests pushing these trials are not humanitarians. Revenge against political enemies, consolidation of power, and appeasement of Islamists are the driving this.

George Soros was born in and grew up in a communist country, and he hates communism. Repeat: George Soros hates atheistic oligarchy style communism; he has, since coming to America with very little money and a lot of heart, given away 50% (fifty-percent) of every dollar he has earned; and he has earned his money by swiftly showing the rest of us when good businesses are undervalued, and when trash businesses are overvalued. He is either a dream come true or at least a very virtuous man. The causes he supports are the kinds of things which are needed in any country so that real democracy and free enterprise can exist: Things like education for everyone, and enough jobs so that there is no "economic slavery", and so on. I suggest that anyone wondering about him check out the Soros Foundations, ..and also the Carter Center, which he has given to.

When will the great American investigative media tell the public just how the present "crusus" was created? Soros and his friends, those who will do anything to ruin our form of government, started a run on the banks, and with the help of Senator Dodd and Representative Franks, scared the hell out of our elected officisls. What a sorrry bunch we have elected to serve us. They can help every body on earth except the people they are elected to represens. They have taken the taxpayers money and given it to the financil crooks in Wall Street5 and the large banks, and the citizens have gotten no help at all. So, whats new?

Poista vanha kynsilakka kynsilakanpoistoaineella. Viilaa kynnet hienolla hiekkapaperiviilalla tai lasiviilalla. Pese ja kuivaa kädet huolellisesti. Lakkaa geelikynnet valkoisella lakalla. Paina tiukasti varsinkin reunoilta.

I’ll have a Poptropica full written walkthrough very soon, but in the meantime, here are some answers to some of the frequently asked questions about Mythology Island. Having trouble? Post a question in the comments and I’ll try to answer it!
Getting Hercules to Help You Poptropica
Hercules won’t help you until you have all five items from Zeus’ quest. Once you have the five items, bring them to Athena. Zeus will appear and steal them. The big jerk! Once this happens, talk to Athena and she will tell you that Hercules will help you. You’ll need to have the magic mirror from Aphrodite because Hercules doesn’t want to have to walk. He’s so lazy!
Getting the Hydra Scale poptropica
You can see how to do this in the videos, but basically you need to jump up when the Hydra is about to strike. He will rear one of his heads back to attack and his eyes will bulge out. poptropica
When this happens, jump up in the air and then try to land on top of his head. That head will get knocked out. When all five heads get knocked out, the Hydra will be asleep and you can click on him to get one of the scales. poptropica
