Why is Trump Taking The Obama/Hillary Line on Guns & The Terror Watch/No Fly List?
by

Yesterday, Donald Trump tweeted that he would soon be meeting with the NRA with regard to “not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns.”

If Trump was so concerned about this it seems strange he didn’t seem fit to mention it in his speech to the NRA last month following its endorsement of his candidacy. Be that as it may, Trump has essentially adopted the Obama/Hillary position on the issue. Following the San Bernardino attacks, President Obama stated:

For example, right now, people on the No-Fly list can walk into a store and buy a gun. That is insane. If you’re too dangerous to board a plane, you’re too dangerous, by definition, to buy a gun.

Following the Orlando massacre, Hillary Clinton stated in an appearance on Monring Joe, “And I still am just totally bewildered by the Republican Congress’ refusal to block suspected terrorists from buying guns who are on the no-fly list.”

Well, one of those suspected terrorists too dangerous to buy a gun is Steven Hayes of The Weekly Standard and Fox News.

By Obama and Hillary’s logic, if you’re too dangerous to fly a plane then you are too dangerous to work for the Department of Homeland Security. Yet, 72 DHS employees are on the terror watch list. Either DHS has a “jobs for jihadis” program or the terror watch list isn’t really up to snuff.

The fact is that prohibiting people on the terror watch list from buying guns isn’t going to stop terrorism any more than additional background checks. The San Bernardino shooter wasn’t on the terror watch list. Besides, Syed Farook deployed a straw buyer. The Orlando perpetrator was on the list, but was then removed. The same cannot be said for Steven Hayes.

So why is Trump following Obama & Hillary’s lead where concerns guns and the no fly/terror watch list? Because like every other politician, he likes easy answers and has to give the appearance of doing something. But when you appear to be doing something, nothing happens.
