What Hath Queen Nancy Wrought?
by

Nancy the First, by the Grace of Gaia, of the Divided States of America, of Her other Realms and Territories, Queen, Head of the Commissariat, Defender of the Faithless, declares that her royal decree alone will suffice to make ObamaCare the law of the land.

In a surprising moment of candor, Nancy of the House of Pelosi said she wishes to avoid a vote in the House on ObamaCare because the legislation would be defeated in that chamber. “Nobody wants to vote for the Senate bill,” said Her Majesty Queen Nancy.

This helps to explain Queen Nancy’s support of the so-called Slaughter Solution. Under the plan, the House would vote on a procedural motion, that is, the “rule” that is supposed to govern debate on a matter going before the House. In this case a “self-executing rule” would be used that would “deem” the Senate version of ObamaCare to have been passed.

To the weasels who support it the advantage of using a self-executing rule is that lawmakers would be able vote to approve the Senate version of the ObamaCare legislation -complete with unpopular add-ons such as Sen. Ben Nelson’s Cornhusker Kickback and Sen. Mary Landrieu’s Louisiana Purchase- and then be able to tell their constituents that technically all they did was approve a procedural motion.

Would a lawmaker who voted for the Slaughter Solution be lying if he said he didn’t vote for ObamaCare? Yes, but approving the legislation in this manner would help to cloud the issue and possibly give the lawmaker some political cover. After all, how many voters out there understand the niceties of parliamentary procedure? Some would no doubt be fooled.

Meanwhile, House Rules Committee chairman Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) defended the use of the self-executing provision in an interview with Kerry Picket of the Washington Times.

“This has been used since 1933. The Republicans used it about 34 times in the last term, and we’ve used it abundantly this last term. There’s nothing at all unconstitutional about this.  It’s a perfectly legitimate way to do things.”

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R -Ohio), said Slaughter was full of it. “No one in either party has taken a 2,000 page bill and self-executed it into law…ever.”

Outraged members of the voting public appear to be overloading the Capitol Hill switchboard in an effort to let their elected representatives know their political careers are over if they vote for ObamaCare (or for the procedural motion that people are calling the Slaughter Solution).

But the Democratic leadership isn’t listening, John Fund notes in the Wall Street Journal. “In ramming through an unpopular 2,700-page health care bill using brute force tactics, Democrats are in danger of passing what amounts to the longest suicide note in history.”

Obama’s new promise not to campaign for any Democratic lawmakers who vote against ObamaCare is an empty threat. Democrats in swing districts are already avoiding the president who has become politically toxic. The last thing any Democrat seeking reelection wants is for Obama to campaign for him or her.

Elsewhere, House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) says yet another of the Democrats’ artificial deadlines for passing ObamaCare is likely to be missed. Democrats want the vote this week but it could happen after the Easter holiday.

Contrary to the propaganda the mainstream media has been pumping out recently -lies about how ObamaCare suddenly has momentum-  the longer the vote is delayed the less likely it is ObamaCare will pass.

Delay, in this case, is the friend of liberty.
