There was a fundraising email awaiting me in my inbox this morning from New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Wisniewski celebrating the tie-breaking eleventh vote in favor of “the Democratic Legislative map proposal that will be in place for the next 10 years”:

The victory with the adoption of our Democratic map at yesterday’s meeting of the Legislative Reapportionment Commission in Trenton ensures progressive, forward-looking and inclusive state government for the next decade.The Democratic momentum is building and we’re well on our way down the path to victory in November.

Let’s set aside the cognitive dissonance of the self-flattering “progressive” label and “forward-looking” governance–see Exhibit A: The Last Ten Years–aren’t we supposed to at least pretend the reapportionment process is out fair representation not building “Democratic momentum”? (See this Ann Althouse video for another example of the same phenomenon.) I wonder what kind of email Wisniewski would have sent if the vote went a different way and Republicans crowed similarly? 

Also: I suppose that “momentum” is the reason why I can’t watch ten minutes of television here in Philadelphia without seeing a teachers union commercial about Chris Christie wanting to huff and puff and blow every school down on top of the very same disadvantaged children he will then slow roast on a spit and eat.
