Regarding today’s meeting of EU ambassadors mentioned this morning: It resulted in some new sanctions on individuals and institutions, and an announcement that an oil embargo is being considered. Some diplomats are saying an embargo could be approved next week. Here’s hoping.
Meanwhile, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies sent a letter to Obama today with 32 mostly (but not entirely) right-leaning signatories, suggesting further steps to take in a diplomatic push against Assad (you will notice that getting the Europeans on board is critical to several of their suggestions). Leaning forward, Michael Rubin considers what would come after Assad’s fall.
