This might be the most disturbing thing I’ve ever seen, and that’s actually saying a lot.
Every year, I serve as an on-call counsel for 40 Days for Life, a national program of prayer and sidewalk counseling that goes for the 40 days before Easter (and now, I believe, there’s also a fall program). It’s mostly an unventful job, but a few years ago, I received a call in the middle of the night from a terrified woman who’d been praying in front of a Michigan abortion clinic. The clinic owner, who had quite the reputation for his barbaric practices, had been seen taking out the weekly “trash,” which consisted of a number of small garbage bags. Curious, the protesters had looked in the Dumpster. The bags were filled with human remains – baby parts, disposed of like common waste, instead of with the care required for ostensibly biohazardous materials. It was horrifying. All those tiny bodies.
But this, this is more horrifying. Because this woman, Planned Parenthood’s top doctor, Senior Medical Director Dr. Deborah Nucatola, who apparently performs partial birth abortions, is on camera describing her process for dismantling what I can only assume is a late-term fetus, so as to keep the organs intact for sale. And like a sociopath, she speaks of it nonchalantly, over a salad and a glass of wine, as though it were nothing. She sees those tiny bodies every day and she rips them apart to sell to other people.
This is not, in any way, legal. Certainly, some organizations like Planned Parenthood might have arrangements with medical research facilities to provide tissue for experimentation and development (though that’s generally frowned upon), but this appears to be an illegal, outside-the-normal-process sale. And it’s not her first rodeo, either. According to the video, if you’re in the market for baby parts, they cost between $30 and $100, depending on what you need and how careful she needs to be. She even has a training scheme, which helps Planned Parenthood staff learn how to position the baby (in breech), so as to make it easy for doctors to harvest the organs.
It’s not surprising, frankly, even not based on my own experience. Planned Parenthood views these “products of conception” as merely medical waste, and whether they dispose of them in accordance with the law, whether they dispose of them in Dumpsters, or whether they sell them off to the highest bidder matters not.
It is gruesome. It is horrifying. And this is all funded by your tax dollars.
Excuse me while I spend the rest of my workday vomiting.
