Thoughts on the Shootings at Two Military Facilities in Chattanooga, TN
by

This is bloody awful. Here is how the Chattanooga Times Free Press describes what has happened:

Four members of the military were killed in two attacks on military centers in separate parts of Chattanooga by a unknown gunman, leading to lockdowns at local hospitals as well as the Army Recruiting Center on Lee highway as well as the Naval and Marine Reserve Center at the Chattanooga Riverpark, where shots were fired.

At least four Marines were killed and one police officer was shot in the attacks, according to multiple sources.

The shooter is dead, according to reports, and police say this is no longer an active shooting situation.

One can only hope the police officer survives his injuries.

At this point, the shooter has not been identified.

Yet after having read what happened today I cannot help but be reminded of what has happened in the recent past.

I cannot help but think of the 12 soldiers, one civilian and one unborn child killed at Fort Hood in November 2009 by one of their own who shouted, “Allahu Akbar!!!”

I cannot help but think of Private William Long who was murdered five months before Fort Hood outside an army recruiting station in Little Rock, Arkansas. Private Long was killed by a Muslim convert Abdulhakim Muhammad.

I cannot help but think of the two U.S. airmen, Nicholas Alden & Zachary Cuddleback, who were shot to death by a German Islamist at the Frankfurt International Airport in March 2011.

I cannot help but think of Corporal Nathan Cirillo, the reservist shot and killed while guarding Canada’s National War Memorial in Ottawa last October by an Islamist. The perpretrator would then make his way to Parliament Hill where he was killed by House of Commons Sergeant at Arms Kevin Vickers.

I cannot help but think of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent who was run down in Quebec a week before the Ottawa attacks by another convert to Islam.

I cannot help but think of Lee Rigby, the British soldier who was run down and beheaded in broad daylight by two British born Islamists, in May 2013.

I cannot help but think of the three French soldiers killed in Toulouse in two separate attacks over four days by an Islamist on a motor scooter.

Of course, it is entirely possible that this incident could have nothing to do with radical Islam as was the case at the Washington Navy Yard in September 2013 where 12 people were killed.

But given how radical Islamists have killed American, Canadian, British, and French soldiers, blaming them for the occupation of Muslim lands, I would be quite surprised if what happened today in Chattanooga wasn’t connected to radical Islam.

UPDATE: The gunman has been identified as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, a naturalized American born in Kuwait. Shortly before the shooting, an ISIS-affiliated Twitter account sent out a message, “O American Dogs soon YOU Will see wonders. #Chattanooga #USA #ISIS.”
