The Sensible Secessionist

So at the end of yet another ho-hum overwrought denunciation of his ideological foes as nutty theocratic extremists, Andrew Sullivan looks into his crystal ball and sees a civil war coming in the aftermath of an Obama loss.

Well, what else can reasonable, deep thinking people do when their favored politician fails at the ballot box?! These Republicans are virtually thrusting the weapons into their hands by fielding a candidate against The One at all!

It sort of reminds me of this exchange between Elizabeth Edwards and a supporter at a Town Hall meeting just before election 2004:

Supporter: I’m just worried there’s going to be riots afterwards.

Edwards: Uh…well…not if we win.

Hilarious. Andrew Sullivan “fears” what his own allies might do if they lose the 2012 election, but still manages to define “extremist” as essentially a disagreement with Andrew Sullivan, circa 2011. (If you agree with Andrew Sullivan circa 2002 you are, of course, an unilateral imperialist whose adore for torture and Islamofascism knows no bounds…)
