‘The BBC, Another Beauty’
by

At his pre-inaugural press conference in New York, Trump sarcastically said after a BBC reporter stepped up to ask a question, “the BBC, another beauty.” His dim view of the BBC is likely to deepen after today’s press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May, which had been going swimmingly until a BBC reporter asked a sandbagging question about the deep “alarm” she claimed Trump strikes in the heart of Brits. She listed his views on “torture,” his support for “punishing” those who get abortion, and his proposed vetting of Muslims as views particularly terrifying to the British. The question couldn’t have been more loaded. Looking over at May, Trump joked that “this” is the reporter you call first and joked that the special relationship, about which they had both been speaking so enthusiastically, just disappeared. Perhaps the Democrats, as they fret over Russia Television’s “interference” in American politics, should broaden their investigation to include the BBC.
