Last night on Sean Hannity’s show, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said that although dad was still his first choice for president, now that the Republican nomination fight is effectively over he would support Mitt Romney for president:
My first choice had always been my father. I campaigned for him when I was 11-years-old. He’s still my first pick. But now that the nominating process is over, tonight I’m happy to announce that I’m going to be supporting Gov. Mitt Romney.
Romney accepted the younger Paul’s endorsement in a statement, calling the Tea Party senator “a leading voice in the effort to scale back the size and reach of government and promote liberty.” As I mentioned in my piece on a hypothetical Romney/Rand ticket, it will be interesting to see the fallout among Ron Paul supporters who aren’t ready to give up or are skeptical of changing the Republican Party.
