There’s an ‘environmental’ conference going on so here is today’s inevitable head-scratching about the noisiest and bossiest voices demanding state-created scarcities to force the world into more simple lives also being the least likely to walk their own talk.
But it probably isn’t all that complicated. Either the jet-set environmental scolds believe there are two standards in this world, one for their consumptionist, if ever-preening and occasionally gesturing selves, and another for the masses. Or they don’t believe a word they say. Meaning you shouldn’t listen, either.
Of course I hold out the possibility that there are healthy doses of both at play.
