There is no last insult from President Obama. There are just continual insults. If he’s not congratulating himself, he’s changing U.S. policy to harm constituencies that didn’t vote for him. Today, that meant Cuban people trying to escape their terrorized lot on Cuba and escaping to American soil.
As of today, if a Cuban doctor attempts to escape tyranny and deprivation, makes it to the United States shore, he’ll be turned around and left to the devices of a communist dictator and his regime.
President Obama announced Thursday an end to the 20-year-old “wet foot, dry foot” policy that allowed most Cuban migrants who reach U.S. soil to stay and become legal permanent residents after one year.
President Obama issued a statement Thursday evening saying the U.S. is working to normalize relations with its one-time foe, and ending this policy was the next logical step.
“Effective immediately, Cuban nationals who attempt to enter the United States illegally and do not qualify for humanitarian relief will be subject to removal,” Obama said. “By taking this step, we are treating Cuban migrants the same way we treat migrants from other countries.”
The “wet foot, dry foot” policy, created by President Clinton in 1995, has generally allowed Cubans who simply touch U.S. soil to stay in the country. Those caught at sea are returned to Cuba. In exchange for the new policy, Cuba has agreed to start accepting Cubans who were issued a deportation order in the United States, something the communist nation has refused to do for decades.
The decision, formalized in a joint statement issued by both governments Thursday, comes as Obama tries to cement his historic opening of diplomatic relations with Cuba and one week before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
There were no concessions from the Cuban government about how these attempted exiles would fare back in Cuba. It’s not like their prisons aren’t still full of political prisoners or anything.
Barack Obama is a spiteful man. He doesn’t care that his decisions will harm the weak. His behavior regarding Iran, when the Green Revolution was attempted, and he said and did nothing to support the brave people, signaled his belief system. He has a soft spot for tyrants who don’t like the United States….except, it seems, Vladamir Putin. Of course, that soured relationship happened because Putin has consistently, and easily, embarrassed Obama.
Cuban-American voters voting for Republicans embarrasses Obama. To pay them back, he’ll make their desperate friends and family suffer in Cuba. What a swell guy.
