Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called “fake news” a danger that must be addressed quickly, in a rare public appearance on Thursday, a month after she lost the presidential election in a campaign marked by a flood of such propaganda.
“We must stand up for our democracy,” Clinton said during a tribute to retiring Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, referring to what she called “the epidemic of malicious fake news and false propaganda that flooded social media over the past year.”
You mean fake news stories like the one about you using your private server for emails about yoga and wedding planning?
It has been a bit nauseating watching various entities withing the mainstream media jump on this “fake news” bandwagon recently, trying to act as if they are above the fray. Much of the fake news that was disseminate during the campaign came from Mrs. Clinton’s mouth (or campaign) and was dutifully repeated as fact by the very institutions now decrying the “epidemic”.
Her comments become even more surreal because she was making them during a Harry Reid tribute. Reid is a pathological liar who can’t utter a simple “hello” without layering it with falsehoods.
This speech gives yet another indication of why she lost: her lack of genuineness. She’s speaking to a friendly audience and she still has to cling to the talking point du jour to be comfortable. She’s an automaton who has to be programmed by her handlers lest she lapse into one of her uncomfortable cackling fits. This is why her campaign was always “reintroducing” her and fretting that the public wasn’t getting to know the “real” Hillary Clinton.
There is no “there” there, that’s why.
Back to the fake news, though. They can’t admit to themselves that Hillary was an awful candidate so fake news is the latest thing spit out by the Democrats’ perpetually-grinding 2016 excuse and distraction machine. Even Brian Williams, whose relationship with the truth is still in couples therapy, had the audacity to talk about it with a straight face.
MSNBC anchor Brian Williams, who lost his job with NBC’s nightly news for exaggerating details of his time reporting in Iraq, slammed President-elect Donald Trump and members of his transition team for spreading fake news throughout the election.
“Fake news played a role in this election and continues to find a wide audience,” Williams said on MSNBC Wednesday night.
“Fake news” is the new “Koch brothers” for the Democrats-an empty mantra designed to be repeated ad nauseam to rile up the faithful. There is really nothing to the claims they’re making but that’s not the point, they just need to deflect and keep everyone frothing about the GOP. They are going to keep testing these excuses until it looks like they’ve got one that they think will stick.
None of it will change the fact that Hillary is spending her days bothering people for selfies in the Whole Foods produce aisle.
